Important Part of the Plan
I've got all the available versions of this device - triple, double and single. If I have to wear closed toe shoes, then I generally put one version of these on in order to keep the knuckles of my hammer toes flexed down away from rubbing against the top of my shoes. The double is ambidextrous and works by strapping down two of your toes (it does not go over the big toe) with elastic loops threaded through a thinish, sightly cushy, fabric covered pad. Since I'm most concerned about my 2nd & 3rd toes, those are the toes I wear this on. The Double-Toe device leaves an asymmetric overhang that the big toe must rest on and this bothers me a bit but may be fine for others. Rotating through the various versions is important for me to prevent irritation spots. It takes a little practice to get the hang of putting them on and having the loops tight enough but not too tight. I find I can wear them for hours but eventually they have to come off! Still, as part of addressing my hammer toes, together with good, roomy toe bed shoes, it is an essential. If you have trouble putting them on, try a move where you're pressing down the knuckle and pulling up the tip of the toe at the same time as you are sliding the loop on. In terms of durability, the edges fray and flake but that's only to be expected with use.

So far so good...
So far this product seems to be working. I don't have pain in my toes yet but I have diabetes and I noticed a sore on the top of my toe and that I was getting a hammer toe. I don't want to get a wound on my toe so I got this. I only ware it at night with a sock, the first night I had to take it off after a couple of hours as it was hurting the next night the same- but with time I have been able to do longer and longer. I'm up to all night now.

Dual Padding Held Together By Adhesive, Fell Apart The First Time I Washed It
As a Physical Therapist, I have worked with dozens of different hammer toe correction products, toe spacers, toe straighteners and hallux valgus orthoses. In order to determine my tolerance, I wore this device around the house (in my slippers without a sock) for a few hours over two days. It felt fine, so on the third day I wore it to work under my usual cotton sock and loafer style shoe. The entire day the product was comfortable and it worked perfectly, it stabilized my second toe and prevented it from crossing over onto the first toe. My skin looked fine when I removed it after 12 hours of wear on a hot NYC day, but then moments later the area of my foot that was in contact with this product developed an intractable itch. I have never experienced and itch like this, it was incredibly intense and unrelenting. After a few minutes of scratching without relief, I noticed the itchy area that was in contact with this product felt slightly tacky, evidence that the itch was related to some kind of adhesive residue left behind by this product. The itch remained even after I vigorously scrubbed the area with soap and water, so I scrubbed it with 91% isopropyl alcohol which removed the adhesive and relieved the itch. I thought the adhesive was a superficial remnant of the manufacturing process, so I attempted to wash it out with soap and water but that only made things worse. The water liquefied the adhesive, which turned the entire product into a wet sticky mess. The Pedifix Double-Toe Straightener is described as having "dual layer foam padding". As I was washing it the two layers of foam padding split apart. After the split it became evident that this was the origin of the adhesive because the bottom side of the upper pad was covered with an extremely sticky substance. Apparently the two layers of foam are attached together by an adhesive. Other than the adhesive itch, this product was comfortable and kept my second toe in place, so I really wanted to salvage it. The adhesive was only on the upper pad, so my plan was to remove the adhesive from the upper pad then sew the two pads back together. So I soaked the upper pad in hot soapy water overnight but the adhesive remained, even after I repeatedly wrung it out. Then I soaked the pad in 91% isopropyl alcohol for 12 hours but the adhesive remained, so I gave up. I removed the elastic toe loops and threw out the top pad. This adhesive problem was a minor inconvenience to me, but it could potentially be a very dangerous situation for someone with peripheral vascular disease, diabetes, or any other disease that causes impaired lower extremity circulation. The reason I gave this product a two star rating is because it did keep my toe straight and I managed to salvage this adhesive nightmare. I attached the elastic toe loops to the adhesive free lower piece of foam, then stitched a piece of adhesive free moleskin to the bottom. A number of reviewers who used this product reported pain. As a PT I feel compelled to weight in on that issue. As the product info states, this product is only appropriate for flexible deformities, but there's more to it than that. The likelihood of developing pain is directly proportional to the length of time the wearer had the deformity. In other words, the longer a person has had an overlapping toe, the more likely that person will experience pain or discomfort when they use any device that attempts to correct it. In addition, age can also be a factor when considering tolerance. Generally speaking, the likelihood of discomfort is going to be greater if someone implements the correction at age 70, than if they implement it at age 40.

More comfortable without socks
This took a day to get used to. Don’t give up right away. That said, I have just been wearing sneakers and don’t wear socks. It gives the pad more wiggle room.

Glad for the recommendation!
My doctor recommended these and they have definitely made a difference with my foot pain!

Wasn't Comfortable
These were not comfortable for me. They do keep the toes separated, but they weren't comfortable with shoes.

Works For Me!
I have a burst capsule between my 3rd and 4th toe. It is extremely painful. I was unable to have surgery to fix the problem, so my podiatrist recommended this splint to keep my toe joints from moving as it slowly heals. I work 2 jobs - one year round retail walking on a thinly padded concrete floor. This splint has been wonderful for relieving pain. I also work seasonally as a lifeguard and swim instructor. I cannot be barefoot anymore on pool deck or in the pool. I wore this with strap sandals (no more flip flops for me according to my podiatrist!), and it worked very well. I walked on pool deck for 6 days straight while training lifeguards. Although my feet were tired at the end of the day and yes, a little sore, this splint made it possible for me to work on pool deck. I'll have to wear one while I teach swim lessons this summer with orthodic water shoes. We'll see how that goes!

I have to say that this Pedifix double toe straightener is brilliant. I have hammer toes and had one operated ...
I purchased this along with another silicone toe straightener so I could try both. I have to say that this Pedifix double toe straightener is brilliant. I have hammer toes and had one operated on 18 months ago, which has not been satisfactory at all and now has no strength in it which leaves my other toes to do all the work. Consequently they have been hurting so bad that I can hardly walk. When this Pedifix toe straightener came this morning I put it on after trying the other one first which was far too flexible. I have been on my feet all day (12 hours) and totally forgot I had it on. It has taken all the pain away, straightened 2 toes and is very comfortable indeed. I am so pleased that I had to write this review immediately as it is not often that I buy something that works so well. So I have just ordered another as a spare. They are elasticated as can be seen in the picture and seem to fit in my shoes with room to spare. 11/10

Overall, very happy
I have the very early signs of a hammer toe and so i decided to do something about it early and i am happy to say that i can notice an improvement in the look and feel of my toe after wearing it. I find the product very comfortable when wearing socks/tights as well which is a bonus. The only thing i am disappointed about is the fact i find it too large to wear with shoes and i do believe that it will get tatty very quickly as, after having the product for just over a week, it is looking a bit tatty already. The product is fairly cheap though, so this isn't so much of a problem.

Hmmm... felt as though my toes were going to fall off!
I have long toes, slightly bent now I am 40 from age & use! I was hopeful this item would work but all it seesm to do is cut off my circulation. I have tried to loosen them enough, but then they don't do anything. Pretty useless & slightly disturbing effect!

Good but has limited suitability
Effective if used with care. Don't use on swollen toes or broken skin. Adjustable toe straps very good; foot base not very comfortable and a bit too short at the top; could be improved.

works well
Only problem is that it can't be worn with shoes during the day as the pad at the bottom makes shoes too tight, so what's the point. Ok to wear at home with slippers and then it works!!! Shame about the pad.
