MANTIENI LA TUA ACQUA PULITA e proteggi i tuoi elettrodomestici rimuovendo sporco, sabbia, limo e particolato.

Warning - Cannot be Used with Well Water
This filter cannot and should not be used with private well water. Unfortunately, as of 9/9/22, this information is not disclosed on the outside of the packaging or on the Amazon product detail page. Let me explain further. We began using these filters when we had our Pentair Pentek Big Blue sediment filter housing installed at our house. They seemed to work great. Then after a few months our water started smelling like rotten eggs. Based on my research, I assumed the smell was sulfur based and was coming from the well. I was about to pull the trigger on a well chlorination (aka shocking the well), but before I did I took a few gallons right from the well (prior to the filter). The rotten egg smell was not present straight from the well. I tried changing the Pentair filter and the smell immediately went away. I called Pentair tech support and told them I was using this filter and that we had the rotten egg smell. They immediately knew it was the filter causing the smell. They stated that the cellulose in this filter starts disintegrating/getting broken down from the well water and that is what causes the smell. I have asked Amazon to update the product page. Not sure if they will. I have attached a picture of the inner label of this filter that alludes to what I am saying and what I was told by Pentair tech support. Finally, there is further evidence of this mismatch between this cellulose based filter and well water when looking at the product details of other non-cellulose based Pentair filters such as the DGD-5005. On the product page for that filter, it states: "The polypropylene construction provides superior chemical resistance and is not prone to bacterial attack." In summary, Pentair knows the ECP series Pleated Cellulose Polyester filters should not be used with well water, but it is not well communicated and is not common knowledge. If this filter has worked for your well water in the past without the smell being created, it is either that the harmless bacteria that break down the cellulose of this filter are not present in your well water or you have been changing your filters quickly enough that the cellulose has not had time to break down and create the rotten egg smell.

OEM product - many advertised replacements don't fit well
You can see from the pic that this filter has a ridge around the sealing washer, keeping it where it's supposed to be. Advertised replacement products don't have that ridge - in fact, they don't come with replacement washers either so you'd have to reuse washers from the last OE one you had. If you try to use brand X, you have to hope the washer stays where it's supposed to be, and the washer will be partially destroyed if it doesn't, and water may bypass the filter. This OEM product works without the hassle of possible sealing problems.

Had some issues
We have been using these filters for 20 years. I think they changed the filter sometime in the last few years, I saw the change. Maybe it’s because they had a bad batch, I have had a few issues with them not being the right size, & the housing for the filter doesn’t seal properly and water sprays out everywhere. I changed the filter with a new one and it fixed the problem but the filter that didn’t fit right ended up in the trash. I ordered it a while ago or I would ask for a refund. Hopefully that was the last bad one in that lot.

Pleated vs Wound String vs the new Spun Polypropylene
What's the benefit of pleated vs the wound string? The pleated offers MUCH more surface area and lasts much longer. I gave up on the wound string filters years ago because of the superior water flow and longevity of the pleated filters. I really like them. But now, the experts are recommending spun polypropylene filters. These new polypropylene filters don't have a rating the same way that pleated filters do because they have a range of filtrations --- the outer layer may be rated for 20 micron, while the inner may be rated for 5 micron. This means that the bigger particles are trapped on the surface and smaller and smaller particles are trapped as the water moves toward the interior of the filter. The experts say that this method is superior to the pleated cellulose filter design, but I'm not sure. I'm testing both kinds in my house now, and they seem to be performing equally well for longevity. I don't think you can go wrong with these pleated filters. Of particular note is that the pressure drop in these filters is so low that it's very well suited to low water pressure situations. We have a gravity feed spring supplying water at 20 pounds of pressure in the basement. After the filter, there is 19 pounds of pressure, still enough to take a shower.

Sediment Filter
Works great in my GE whole house sediment filter. Coming from 5 micron to 1 micron I see no drop in water pressure. I am using it on municipal water and mainly filter iron sludge that comes from older cast iron pipes. Changing filters every 4 month or so, by the end of the period filter is all yellow and a bit slimy, so you can see what you avoid in shower and such. Filter will not do anything to chlorine or any other impurities but a great one on the entrance to the house for all the sediments. I keep on buying them from Amazon where they are reasonably priced and delivered to you door. Can I find them locally, probably, but that gas spent driving and time not really worst a dollar or two of savings. By the way, picture is from an older one, new ones got a bit redesigned with thicker ends and black rubber washer in the center, still fits great and work fine.

good product
I've been using these filters for a few years and have never had a problem with it. The problem I do have is how Amazon.ca keeps screwing around with the pricing on this item, I'll buy it @ $18 and within a few days it's up to $30 then eventually it will go back to $18 for a short while then back to $30

Good value
Great price as these can get expensive. We use on a lake-provided water supply and as the summer progresses, find they need to be changed monthly, as they do trap a good deal of sediment and 'smutz'. I will continue to buy these as they have a good price point for our needs.

Good sediment filters
This pleated filters traps a lot when used as a pre sediment filter. We have one big blue before the pressure pump and 4 more after - scale remover, iron filter, charcoal and post sediment.

Perfect description of product
We were in dire need of these filters at a reasonable price. Amazon had them, exactly 1/2 the price of the IDENTICAL filters that we could have purchased locally.
