Hard to be for the price
I run a charter boat and use these Reels well they daily basis for many different things… I troll them inshore For king mackerel 40 to 60 pounds, I troll them nearshore for Mahi & skipjack, & I use them offshore for White Marlin. I spool them with 25 lb high vis yellow or orange suffix with a 28 ft 60 lb flourocarbon leader and the strike set at 6lbs drag. I have had these reels handle several 50-60lb yellowfin tuna & even a 350 + lb blue Marlin. Would I like to have the Shimano tyrnos? Yes. But these do the job and I can afford them.

Stop Second Guessing Yourself and Just Buy It Already!
I waited a good year or so to post a review on this real, bought the 60 Size in Left Hand, cause I've used spin-cast my entire left and I'm muscle trained to reel with my left arm/hand. Purchased this as my first offshore "Trolling" Reel, and when I use it, it's getting abused because I use head boats that cruse at 10 to 15 knots on the ocean for 3 hours at a time before making their first stops for what ever it is in season. I've had fair amount of success with this reel and haven't had any "mechanical" issues, just the "idiot" owner issues not knowing how to use the drags correctly causing backlashes during trolling on a hook-up, lost a giant Wahoo because of such mistakes, but that's how we learn! It wasn't until May of 19 where she was really put through her paces, trolling and sharking. Paired with 50lb Ande Monster Mono (After wasting money on braid with back-lashing, again, my fault), hooked up to 3x 150+ lb Black-Fin Sharks, now being left-handed all my life on spin-cast, man handled the hell out of them with no major fuss and they where the larges "fish" species caught to date with it. Paired mine up with an Penn Ally ALLBW50100C60BB (not cheap but sooooo worth it), and just love the presentation of the gold color and functionality. Could you buy cheaper stuff, sure... Do you want quality stuff, then buy this and don't look back! And be ready for High-Fives and stepping into the world of "big fish"! Buy Buy Buy!!!

Not bad
Just finished with offshore trip and I wanted to put this reel to the test. Living and fishing in Maui, we have all kinds of fish, so you never know whatcha gonna get. Best be prepared. I bought the Penn Sq 40 and spooled with 50lb braid with 40lb mono. It held tons of braid before getting to the third inside marker. I like the inside markers, kinda tells you how much line you got. I filled up the remaining marker with 40lb mono, so thats about 100 yrds of mono. Caught 2 x 30lb mahi mahi with the drag set to 3 1/2. The drag has numbers from 1-4 and you can control the how tight by the knob. 3 1/2 was pretty tight and I used that as a my gauge. I love the fact the reel is very light. I teamed this with a 50-130 lb Okuma pole fr Wmart and the combo is unreal. Very very light setup. My back loves me. Fighting fish for 20 minutes with a heavy reel and pole, yeah.. good luck with that, those days are gone. I did not like the clicker, it has 3 settings, which is annoying and no need. You can not free spool if the clicker is set. After grabbing bait, and hooking, your hands will be wet and the little button to turn off free spool, so your bait can swim away is a pain in the okole. Especially I need to set back on when I get a strike, so I constantly need to click and unclick the clicker. Over all - not bad.. my best and lightest mid-range setup. Might get another one.

Great reel for the price
I have the 60ld spooled with 100lb braid. So far I have caught one small bonito and two 25-30lb dorados. The reel has held up great other than a small grinding noise after the last fishing trip. I think it is partially because of the guy that used it. He piled up the line on one side of the reel, but it seems to still be working fine other than the noise. I set the drag at 20lbs for the strike and I have not had to go above strike as of yet. Still waiting to test it against a big tuna or marlin, but I have no doubt it will hold up just fine. I recently topped it with 100 yds of 80lb mono to make things easier with tangles so more to come. If you are on a budget this reel will do the job for very nicely for anything 100lbs and below. I highly recommend it!

Good, well made fishing reel.
I found everything about this reel sturdy and great working for larger fish. It should be suitable for many varied fishing situations for many years. One item I am not fond of is the harness rings recessed into the reel. not easy to pull up one handed with a raging Marlin on the line.

Fished for tuna like a pro!!!
Great Reel, this is my 2nd purchase of the same reel as it worked flawless on my last tuna fishing trip out of San Diego, CA. I liked my 1st reel so much I decided to purchase a second. Only drawback is it is made in China and not in the USA like the Avet reels. If you are looking for a reliable reel that gets the job done and doesn't break the bank, then this is the reel for you. the Lever Drag is great as it's low profile keeps out of the way of the line. The rings inside the reel are nice too as you can tell how much line you have left on the reel. I put 390 yards of P Line 30lb test monofilament on it and it was more than enough to handle the Tuna. I wanted to stick with the same model and brand reel on both of my rods to keep consistent with the function of the reel. I have seen too many fish lost due to thinking you have one reel and you have a different reel and the functions are different. Remember if you want to catch fish then don't bring bananas on the boat!!

Works awesome!
Picked up this reel for a trip to fish Tuna. This is my third Penn reel. I used a scale to set my drag at about 16 lbs and and loaded it with 50 lb braided line. Used this the other day on a full day fishing trip for Tuna and was my primary rig. My 20 lb line setup wasn't up to par, as the fish broke my leader line. So I stuck with this reel and a 40 lb leader. Brought in 2 skipjack and a yellowfin. The drag worked well. The fish actually pulled out my line easily, they were good fighters. I had it in the strike position and still pulled like heck. I did back off the drag setting on the boat as I felt I had too much drag. The full drag feature works great, as I threw it in full drag and pulled those Tuna to the boat!

that's a good thing
The first one they shipped to me was broken, so I exchanged, the second one is great.

Worth the extra for lever drag for bottom fishing
Lever drag is really nice when jigging. Much easier to just drag up/down than clicking and and out of gear with level wind . Penn fathoms are really smooth and better quality materials than lower models, not plastic. Caught 40# halibut last week, drag works nicely

Perfetto
Grazie
