Awesome for small birds
We have 3 of these feeders for cages that house a single bird. They don't have any issues with getting their food, and it doesn't create a mess that a food bowl might. I just wonder if the pellets get stale by the time the bird gets around to eating all of it. They're not complaining, so I can't say for sure. :) I'd recommend it for a single bird; it might be too small and could cause fighting amongst a pair of hungry birdies. Also, we use mini-bungee cords to hold it against the cage, because it doesn't seem very sturdy on its own, and the bird might be able to wiggle her way around it to get out of the cage without that extra support.

Perfect for Our 2 Finches & Made of Quality Plastic
We've been using this feeder for several years and just got another one as a replacement after the feeder fell and developed cracks. Pros: 1. Easy to clean. 2. Will support 2 finches with enough food for 8 days, when filled to 1/2 full. 3. Keeps mess down as the seed hulls fall into the catch tray beneath the feeder. Cons: 1. There is NO way you can or should fill seeds to the brim and leave unattended for more than a week! Just looking at the image, its obvious that the catch tray can only contain perhaps 1/2 the hulls (or less) of a filled-up container. 2. I don't think this will work for larger birds or smart ones like canaries or parrots. They would rip this thing apart in no time and the size if just too small for anything bigger than finches. 3. Depending on your cage-door size it can be tricky to maneuver without it tipping. For all the cons listed, we have learned how to use this effectively, so I would buy again. We haven't found any other feeder that works as well as this one for finches. And yes, it may seem expensive but our last PennPlax feeder lasted 10 years. And I am glad Amazon had this available as all our local pet stores do not carry this model.

The plastic is obviously a little on the cheaper side ...
The plastic is obviously a little on the cheaper side, but i completely expected that. The seed catching basket at the bottom hangs a little loose in the track, and there is no stopper to keep it from being pushed all the way through, but when in use, the cage itself should hopefully prevent it from falling through, but the looseness plus the lack of a true stopper make it feel a little precarious. The way it attaches to a cage only allows for the sliding type doors, so I couldn't use it on my large finch cage since that has side-hinged doors. I did use it on my smaller finch cage, and while I wouldn't have any problem with my little zebra finches, a playful cockatiel or budgie that figures out how to lift the door even a quarter of an inch higher will definitely be able to dump this feeder all over the floor in front of the cage. And then now only will seed fall out of the flimsy top, but any and all shucked seed casings in the loose catcher will also go flying. But for under $10 you can't expect top of the line.

Great product, poorly designed and manufactured
Great product, poorly designed and manufactured. Bird feeder arrived with 2 chips of plastic off the tray between the feeder holding the catch tray. It feels like if you bump the feeder, it will fall apart. Tried it out to see if it would work, however I have a rubber band wrapped around the whole thing because it didn't feel stable enough. When it came time to empty the catch tray, I removed rubber band, then as I was sliding the catch tray out, the top feeder fell off the tray and I lost the tray full of seed. Receiving a refund. Don't buy until they can provide a sturdier design.

A Nice Feeding Device for Cages with Small (standard) Doors
I am a hobby finch breeder. I have the bird feeders with catch trays that can be mounted INSIDE a cage. They are nice for standard seed feeding. The problem with them though is that you have to reach inside the cage and remove to refill and then replace inside the cage again. :( These Penn Plax feeders are much more convenient if you have a small standard door you can install them in. Because they are installed OUTSIDE the cage (the bird hops into the open door that supports the feeder and feeds) they can be refilled quite easily without disturbing the bird(s). You just pop the top, pour the seed and go. You can also remove and empty the catch tray much more easily like this. Bottom line: LOVE THESE!! :)

Hard to find 'vacation' feeder
Though this is suppose to be a vacation feeder it's much cheaper than the "mess free" feeders and does the same thing (shake the seeds in the tray out once a day). I have looked high and low to find more of these and could no longer find them here in Texas. -I was disappointed that the picture shows a red one with lighter plastic (now I have 3 brown ones w/ tinted plastic, exactly the same).

They're a good size for my finches
These dont fit on my cage, but I've kinda rigged them to sit inside of the cage. They're a good size for my finches, they last for a few days with them. I think its a good idea to gauge how long they last for your bird before leaving on vacation.

Doesn't work for finches.
Doesn't work for finches. The feed trough in the top part fills with hulls and the birds can't get all the seeds out because they are under the hulls. Birds would starve if you used this for vacation feeding. There is another style that's white and a little larger, and that one works, because the seeds are dispensed from a narrow strip in the back and there is an intermediate trough between the seeds and the holes were they fall into the catch tray. I returned this one and ordered a second one of the other style. Also, this one needed a little bungie cord to even get it to stay upright without leaning. All that said, even though the other style works, neither version is for anything larger than maybe a budgie parakeet. I think even a cockatiel would have trouble reaching the seeds, though I think they could learn if given time. The size is fine for finches, but be aware, it's just made to fit into one of the small feeding cup doors, and not even the main cage door. Both styles are small, it's just that the white one works and this one doesn't unless your bird knows how to get seeds underneath hulls.

I like it but way to small for my lovebird so I am going to order a little bit bigger one for her. It is a very good idea though. Thank You for all your help and service. I will do more business with you in future. Schaka Layton
