Very difficult to install
Removing the old flush valve assembly is simple. The problem was not the flush valve but the seal. Tried to manhandle the old flush valve in with the new seal and ended up breaking a tab on the flush valve. I resorted to compressing the seal between two pieces of wood and leaving it in the freezer overnight as suggested by a couple of people. Somethings I did that might help - I installed the flush valve without the seal a few times and marked on the inside back of the toilet a line with a Sharpie that showed exactly where the flush valve need to be bebore it is pushed in. I used frozen Dawn detergent as a lubricant - it worked well and will not likely damage the seal, which an oil might. I did not have small clamps so I used a few wood screws to compress the seal. Replacing the seal is not easy. There is little room for your hands and you really can't see to line things up. Hopefully this will help. Steve

the rubber gasket is not easy to compress enough in order for the three teeth ...
OK, all the reviews that state that this is one of the hardest parts to replace unfortunately ARE true BUT installation is not impossible. Although my part was delivered within a day, I was out of town for an added day that gave me more time to think of my approach to install it. When I first tried to install the flush valve by hand , I was met with the same resistance that all mentioned here, the rubber gasket is not easy to compress enough in order for the three teeth to catch and seat with the tank. Yes there is no way to do this by hand because you just don't have enough leverage by hand... BUT two tricks...1st) you absolutely have to make sure that the alignment is right, meaning that the teeth are properly aligned so when you turn the valve counterclockwise it catches and locks in place ..do several dry runs without the rubber gasket and eyeball the correct position that the valve should be in as it is inserted into the hole in the tank 2nd) the most important trick....use a piece of scrap wood for the added leverage. I had a 3 foot long 1"x3/4 piece of wood that did the trick, after aligning the flush valve properly, I was able to wedge the wood stick behind the lower portion of the valve and then pushed on the wood stick (at the top) towards the back of the tank, that compressed the rubber gasket just enough for it to catch on the tank IT WORKS...and YES I DID yell out a BIG YESSSS when I felt the valve catch...Good Luck be patient use the wood stick and you'll also yell out a BIG YESSSS!!!!

Installation tip
Tip on installation! 1. Remove flapper and bar 2. Get a piece of wood. I used a 1x3 approximately 4inches long. 3. Position the valve to the right and get the wood behind it from the right. This will get it about halfway in. 4. Using door jam shims, start forcing them in between the valve and the wood. You should see it compressing nicely 5. Turn it upright - done! I only used 3 shims to complete, and got in on first attempt If anyone can get this in without tools, please tell us the secret

many reviews mentioned that it's very hard to install it ...
many reviews mentioned that it's very hard to install it. YES! That's true. Hopefully, I don't have to replace this anymore. If I have to replace it again, I will buy new toilet without using this kit. I am 6' and 200 lbs healthy guy but there is NO way to install it without any tool. NO WAY! Well, maybe this part itself is not the problem but Kohler should include a simple tool to help installing this unit. I really want to know how many people actually installed this with bare hands in 5 min.

Does the job
This flush valve did the job but it was not easy to install. It comes with a new flapper valve which is nice.

Perfect fit easy installation.
Exactly what it says. Easy to install. Saved me over one thousand dollars by not buying a new toilet.
