Heavy & big enough to work
My mom has this fantastic old meat tenderizer hammer that weighs a ton and is pretty big and has lasted 50 years. I was hoping to find some thing like that but of course nobody makes stuff like that anymore. However, I decided to put my trust in oxo because they are a reliable brand that makes actually usable stuff. (Does everybody know that OXO actually started out making kitchen products that Would be easier to use for people with physical limitations? But the products were so great that then everybody wanted to use them! I was so impressed with the company when I found that out.) When I received this tenderizer I thought it seemed too light and small. But, it’s just right. It gets the job done about as well as my mom’s Thor hammer. This shouldn’t surprise me from such a consistent brand. But I’m always pleasantly surprised.

Sturdy, durable
I use this quite a bit. I never dishwash, only handwash, even though it's dishwasher safe. There are 2 sides: flat and pyramids, and those little pyramids are sharp! Works a treat for flattening chicken or pork into cutlets, esp. when you keep them in a plastic ziploc bag. Still pretty light but have to problem exerting enough force on it. I find it very comfortable. It's OXO so it is built to last and guaranteed for life. This will probably be the one and only tenderizer I ever own!

A "Meat Hammer" ( tenderizer) is a useful addition to any kitchen. This one works great!
This is not a high tech device by any stretch of the imagination. It is a hammer designed to flatten and tenderize meat. It has a very comfortable handle, is nicely balanced and has your choice of two surfaces - one textured and one flat. Bang away at your choice of boneless meat (veal, chicken, beef, etc) and it will become thinner, more uniform and quite often - more tender. Once the meat has been flattened it will cook faster, and given the uniformity, it will cook more evenly too. The only other review (as I write this one) claims this hammer is not dishwasher safe. The manufacturer says it IS dishwasher safe and offers a lifetime warranty to back that up. This tenderizer DOES have a non-stick coating but I've never put mine in a dishwasher so I really can't comment on this. A quick rinse under the kitchen faucet seemed more than adequate to me. In most cases, you would either put a film of saran wrap or wax paper over the meat or simply put the meat in a plastic bag prior to banging away. You don't want juices flying around the kitchen! I just can't see how this hammer would ever require any serious cleaning! A meat hammer is a meat hammer (aka - tenderizer) and I'm hard pressed to criticize this one. It works and it works quite well. It has a comfortable handle, is nicely balanced and has a choice of two different surfaces. Meats cook faster and more evenly with a few blows and end up more tender, too. What's not to like? Highly Recommended

Standard OXO quality
It's a meat hammer. You beat your meat with it. Handle feels great, hammer has decent weight but is still light enough to be easy to use and easy on the wrist. Finish is very nice and makes it look a little nicer than your grandma's meat mallet. Works great for chicken if you want to get a nice flat surface for an even fry. Love that it can be tossed in the dishwasher. Will keep being an OXO customer as long as they keep making nice products like this. I can't imagine a scenario where this is going to fail. It's a hunk of metal.

Got what I paid for
So glad to find one that I can put in the dishwasher. My last one didn't last long because I didn't realize it couldn't. Feels sturdy. So far so good! ????????

This is the meat hammer of Thor. Only the worthy can hold it. Seriously, this is a great hammer, and it's dishwashable. What's not to love?

High quality product with good grip
This thing works great. Seems extremely durable and made of high quality and has a good 'heft' to it. The rubber in the handle keeps your grip if your hands get messy.

Great advantage that handle and mallet are one piece. My previous wooden one had the mallet let loose and sail through the kitchen.

Great quality, easy to hold (even with greasy hands) and easy to control. Although every tool is a hammer, this is a great meat tenderizer.
