Excellent watch, built to be ready for anything.
I'll preface this review by mentioning that I've been an avid Casio collector for several years, and have been interested in watches since I was barely old enough to tell the time. I've owned around 100 or so watches in this time, many of which were great and many of which were pretty terrible. This watch is one that has proven itself to be definitively unique out of every other watch I've ever owned. When I got this watch, the first things I noticed about it were the clear references to motorsports - the tire tread pattern on the inside of the band, the bewheeled, helmet-and-goggle-wearing "Mudman" engraved on the case back, and the dual stopwatches for tracking split times. This seemed to be an eager invitation to use this watch as it was clearly intended, so I did. It went mountain biking, go-karting, drag racing, and for spirited drives on mountain roads in an old 90's sports car, and did its job perfectly. I was able to use the stopwatches to track and record lap and split times for friends on the track, as well as to keep generally accurate times for myself while mountain biking and driving. I say generally accurate because the buttons are very stiff to begin with, and one's hands are usually occupied for a few seconds during the start and finish of a lap. That said, the buttons to start and stop the timers are big enough to be actuated with gloved hands but will require some getting used to due to their unusual stiffness. It's not a watch you can treat gently, its design demands that you be assertive and tough when operating it to get the best from it. Speaking of the design, it's one of the most original in the vast world of digital watches. It's a standout design, even among the wide variety of unique G-Shocks. The pictures on the listing make it look larger than it really is, on the wrist it is light, rigid, and has a profile lower than even the DW-6900 making it easy to wear under a cuff. There is a part of the design that some have complained about, which are the raised nubs on the resin shroud on the bottom of the watch. They say that these can cause irritation to the skin due to rubbing, and while this does likely happen for some it has not been an issue for me after several months of wearing it. The clasp on the band is metal, which definitely adds to the level of confidence I have in the overall durability of the watch. I have noticed however that the strap retainer doesn't grip the band very well and frequently slips out, which causes me to catch the wayward strap on my clothes and on machinery - which while annoying, is just something I've learned to be mindful of as it's a small issue compared to how great the watch is overall. In summary, this is an excellent watch and I recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys any sort of motorsports, mountain/road biking or running. The water resistance is higher than the majority of us will ever need, the readability and illumination is among the best Casio has to offer, and the design is unique, attractive and highly functional. I give it a 9.5 out of 10, with the -.5 being due to the issue with the strap retainer and the fact that sometimes the watch can be hard to read in the daytime due to the depth at which the display is set within the face of the watch. The bezel is set very high, and sometimes this can cast a shadow over the display making you have to adjust the angle of the watch to read it when in direct sunlight. Other than that, this watch is an amazing value at this price, you will be getting much more than your money's worth.

This watch outperforms me!
This watch is tough as all get out. I bought it because I assumed that a watch designed for the rigors imposed by motocross racers would have a fair chance lasting on my wrist with the kind of work I do. I was not disappointed. I wore it to work every day through 8 months of intense, bone jarring, rock breaking excavation as an archaeology field tech in Colorado and this watch came out in better condition than me. Day after day of digging through hard earth six-pound Fiskers shovels (great shovels, btw, only managed to break a few) and breaking through cobbles and bedrock with sixteen-pound pry bars, I ended the season with trigger finger in my right hand pinky and carpel tunnel starting in both hands and yet this watch has hardly a scratch on it and still keeps time as accurately as you would expect from any other quartz movement watch. After eight months, I reset the time to an atomic clock because it was off by 30 to 45 seconds... not too shabby considering the serious amount of impact and vibration this watch suffered daily during the field season. I heartily endorse Casio G-Shock watches now for this reason. It also showed no problems operating in temperatures ranging from the mid teens to upper nineties (and greater since it was often in direct sunlight), and I'm sure there are even greater temperature extremes it could withstand. The wristband gave me no grief either; there are no signs of cracking and only the slightest dents and discoloration exist to remind me where I tighten it down to. As for the operation of the watch and its features, I have no real complaints. The watch is a tad bulky, but not cumbersome or oversized. It is simply larger than the other watches I own (almost exclusively analog, which are normally smaller). The face of the watch is super easy to read in all lighting conditions and the dual illuminator works well in the dark. I like having the time, date, and day all on display on the same screen... its very nice to have that handy when doing paperwork in the midday July heat when calling such information to mind is often difficult. I'll admit that I haven't made much use of the other features with the exception of the stopwatch which I use sparingly. Being used to analog watches, I simply don't feel a need to use alarms or whatnot and so I haven't bothered to try them out. The world time feature would be great if I was traveling between time zones, but all my work this year was local, so maybe next year I'll use it. The buttons are a little tough to use at first, but you'll find that your fingers get sore and then you adjust. Such is the price you pay for a watch that effectively keeps the elements out of its inner workings. As far as looks go, this is not what I would wear with my suit and tie nor with my regular weekend out-on-the-town attire. That being said, it is a handsome watch as digitals go and looks right at home with rugged outdoor wear. It would also look fine with casual clothes, but I tend to prefer my analogs for that, as I've said. I would recommend this watch entirely to many people, such as construction workers, the intended motocross and extreme sports enthusiasts, military personnel (24 hour time and mute are just a few button presses away!), fellow archaeologists, Rambo, skin divers (I can't speak to its efficacy for deep dives, but I bet its pretty good), mountaineers, professional athletes, law enforcement, ninjas, and anyone else looking for a really tough, cost-effective watch to strap to their wrist. *Edit 3/20/2021: I've been wearing this watch for 4 years now, so I wanted to update my review with additional information and photos. This watch is still doing a damn fine job. I've worn it hiking in the mountains at high altitude, digging down in the swamps of Louisiana, swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, working in the sweltering heat of summer in East Texas, and beyond. It's endured pouring rain, extreme heat and cold, collisions, abrasions, falls, and lots and lots of mud and dirt. Through all that, it just keeps functioning just as well as the day I got it. I just wear it in the shower and let it clean up with me. Rinse and repeat. It has gotten one scratch on the glass, but so what? Most watches get at least a few scratches after a year of being worn in much less demanding circumstances, much less after 4 years as an outdoor work watch. As I said in my original review above, I still haven't had any issues with the band cracking or breaking. The original battery is even going strong still. Finally, I added a compass to the band because it's useful out in the wilderness to have a compass handy, and it looks cool besides. I still highly recommend G-Shock watches.

Mudman

It is a really nice watch
I was in two minds about buying this watch or the Casio DW6900, I decided on this for the craziest of reasons, that this watch could run a stop watch with visible bars filling up around the watch in 5 min increments, giving me an easy glance display of how long I had been working out for, while also running an interval timer with auto repeat and a countdown bleep in the last 10 seconds (it can also be set to bleep when the timer gets to the final 30 secs on a 1 minute timer) and I thought that would be useful as I try and get back into the gym and try this new EMOM style of workout- it is not really my thing, but I am trying it out and this watch was up to that job and so that was the deciding factor for me- sold! It really wasnt (the deciding factor) though. I was going round and round looking for the thing that would make the difference between these two watches and in the end I decided it was that. now, that I have the watch, I have forgotten all about such things. This is just a very nice watch. it looks really cool. my wrist is around 7inches. it is not too big at all, by my standards. I do not wear G shocks normally and a watch that is about the size of the Casio Duro or DW5600 would be a normal size watch for me. The button pushers are a little tough to push- nobody lied about that, but not really a big deal. I can adjust to that and I am pretty sure most people would for a watch they like the look of. now, I'm ready for the gym and anything else that life throws at me, with my new G shock- but not today. its the weekend ;) But, if you are interested in this watch- I suggest looking at the reviews on the US Amazon. people really go into great detail about the watch and their experiences with it. But I really like the look of this watch and the auto light- it has not come off my wrist once :)

The best GShock in my opinion
The classic mudman, had one years ago and lost it, seen this on Amazon for £50, yes £50! Absolute bargain for this bomb proof bad boy. I've had around 20 GShocks over the years (I'm a collector of Casio's) this for me is the best imo.

Watch looks ok but the buttons are cumbersome and the strap is poor quality; thin cheap flimsy plastic. Not what you would expect of G-shock.

Un clásico sin lugar a dudas
The media could not be loaded.
