Very Good but lacking in important ways

I used to have a shoulder strap mounted Shark vacuum which was great for walking around the house vacuuming dust off of baseboards and occasional spider webs up high. But Shark no longer makes it, and my old one is long gone. So I bought this vacuum as the closest option available. - - The vacuum suction is great. The shoulder strap is fair and not as comfortable as I am accustomed to. - I found that I had another shoulder strap which I wasn't using, so I tossed out the one that came with the vacuum and replaced it with a MUCH higher quality and more comfortable one from a cat carrier. - The weight of this vacuum is more than I am accustomed to for a shoulder mount vacuum, but it works well enough. - The brush attachment bristles are so long that the fibers are sucked in and cover the vacuum opening when it is on, rendering it useless. So I took a pair of scissors and cut them down to a size that is just a bit longer than the suction opening, so as to still provide the brushing effect but no longer blocking the suction opening. - The hose is rather stiff, and although it stretches fine, it is stiff and doesn't flex well for moving around. And the hose has a loose rotating feature that makes it essential to have to hold any attachment by the attachment arm rather than by the hose end, to avoid the brush attachment rotating around and sliding out of the area to be vacuumed. This is QUITE AWKWARD and not a good thing. - Overall, it's a good product, but badly needs some simple improvements in design. - The price is not appropriate for a vacuum that needs those improvements. - I really miss my old Shark shoulder mount vacuum, it was so much better.

Powerful Vac - Nice Performance

The vacuum cleaner was an addition to my cleaning arsenal. I like the suction and performance of the vacuum and it really is easy to use and maneuver around the house. I am disappointed on the hose. The hose is expandable and requires a taunt holding to keep it expanded. That is, you have to hold the vacuum to expand the hose which at times bothersome. Since I use it for spot vacuuming and vacuuming along wood trim on the floor, corners, between the washer and dryer, etc. It does the job. I would prefer the hose be not collapsible.

Since my last review, the handle on my vacuum cracked. I notified Oreck and was told to take it to the store for repair. Kathy the store mgr. at the location I went to in TN. was very helpful! She immediately said that the handle I had was not a good one and does not understand why they sell these on Amazon like this. I got a new handle which makes a huge difference! Now I do not have to bend over to vacuum because the handle is much sturdier and longer! Kathy also gave me other tips to along with use of my vacuum. I was so impressed with her help and knowledge, I would certainly recommend going to the Oreck store to purchase a vacuum as opposed to buying one line. Hope this is helpful. I would like to change the rating on this vacuum to a 5 after going to the store, and to a 1 or 2 for the one on this site, but I will leave it as it is. This is ok. Seems to be good for my allergies and that's one reason I bought it; However, I really need something for bigger areas. This vacuum is not easy to use for any length of time, the handle is not long enough (I'm only 5'1) I have to bend down and hold the nozzle where the handle connects so it does not come apart. It makes my hand and wrist hurt. The cord is annoying to have to rewind, and it always takes a couple times because it never fails on my last round it will fall off and I have to start over. Thinking I may return and spend the extra for a bigger vacuum.

Power versatile lightweight vacuum

This is my second Oreck compact canister. Well worth the price

Powerful suction, built to last, and a HEPA filter.

This is such a great vacuum! It has a replaceable HEPA filter module that fits over the exhaust port, which means you can pick up very fine particulate like flour without it just spewing out behind you. It has VERY strong suction and can pick up any kind of mess easily. The attachments are pretty good, I use the brush attachment a lot as the bristles loosen up dirt. The usual crevice tool, extender, and other parts all work like they should. The vacuum bags are cheap too, so it's no big deal to replace them as needed. They improved the design from the older model, the hose has a locking ring so it won't just pop out, and there's a cord storage area at the bottom. My only gripe is that the attachments don't lock to the other end and just have a friction fit. It's not really a problem for daily use but it is a minor inconvenience. Oreck vacuums aren't cheap but you pay for quality and reliability. It's built like a tank and there's nothing flimsy about it. If you have to pick up a lot of fine material (plastic shavings, fiberglass particles, milled grains/flours, etc.) this is definitely the right vacuum.

The best handheld vacuum

I had bought this as a gift for my mother, after her original Oreck canister vacuum quit working after 15+ years. Needless to say, she was really excited about having a vacuum that worked again- it’s a staple in their household, as well as in my own. This compact vacuum is lightweight, compact, and really great for cleaning tight corners like car seats, on top of your fan, or in between cushions. Emptying and replacing the bags are easy to manage, and the various attachments that it comes with make for a great, spotless cleaning experience. I would highly recommend this vacuum!
