Read for additional installation information....
So, the instructions that come with the unit aren't great. In fact, I called orbit Technical Support and they weren't very helpful either. Being in the HVAC industry, I'm fairly familiar with electrical circuitry and needed to make sure that this product could do what I wanted it to do. In the limited instructions, there is little to no description as to what the 'PUMP' wire terminal actually does. We have a small leak in our sprinkler system that we have not been able to find, so having our pump maintain constant pressure when the system is not running, floods our yard over a long period of time. So we needed a way to turn the pump on ONLY when the sprinkler system is calling for water. The folks at Orbit didn't understand our request, so for those of you with a similar situation, here is the answer... The 'PUMP' terminal is a 24VAC powered contact. In conjunction with the COM terminal next to it, it can be used to power a relay that will connect/disconnect power to your pump. You can purchase a contactor/relay with a 24VAC coil that will do just that. In our situation, we have a 120V shallow well pump that plugs into a standard outlet. So, after unplugging the pump, we cut the cord in the middle and installed a 1.5P 24V contactor. This way, the pump only runs when the sprinkler system is calling. (For those of you that are deeper into electrical circuitry knowledge, When the system is NOT calling for water, the terminals still put out around 20VAC, but there is no Amperage behind it. Don't let it fool you. It will not pull the contactor in. When there s a call for water, the voltage jumps to 28-29VAC with some amperage behind it to close the contact.) As far as the programming, it was fairly straight forward. Be sure to input your Soil Moisture % when you start or the "smart watering" thinks your soil is completely dry and will over-water to bring the % into range. Don't be surprised when you see "2" waterings of the same zone on the same day. Most of us are used to running our system/zone once per watering cycle (Zone 1 for 15 minutes, Zone 2 for 10 minutes, etc...) The smart watering will run each zone twice per watering cycle (Zone 1 for 7 minutes, Zone 2 for 5 minutes,... etc, and then repeat again, Zone 1 for an additional 8 minutes, Zone 2 for an additional 5 minutes). This is actually pretty smart. It prevents water runoff from the top of the soil and allows water to penetrate the soil during the first round and then make room for the second round of watering. All in all, we're on Day 1 of the new system controller. I'm pretty impressed thus far with the functionality; pretty disappointed that I now know more than Orbit technical support, but if it does what I need it too, then we'll be happy with the product.

Amazing product
Welcome to the 21st century of irrigation timers. Why did I not know about this? It sends you a text (If you want) when it is done watering each zone. WiFi ties in to local weather so it won't water if rainy or windy. You tell it how much wind or rain to look for. When making repairs to your systems (Like when dogs chew or spring startup) you can turn zones on or off with your smart phon while you watch for leaks. No more back and forth to the garage where the timer is to turn on and off and come back to a flood. It's a breeze to set up with the app. Do you want this or that? What days? How many minutes? How many times a day? When to start? Just click the answer on your smart phone. The app and features are bullet proof and intuitive (iPhone user)

Router Password Privacy Concerns Addressed
The B-hyve 4 Channel Water Sprinkler replaced a 20 year old rainbird. It's about 1/3 the size of the Rainbird by volume (good). I admit I had some trepidation, based on the few bad reviews, but figured I'd take a leap of faith. A wifi sprinkler system that I could monitor and control while travelling sounded very attractive, esp when "home" was hit with a heatwave! The eventual garage destination for the unit is about 45' from my home TPLink AX50 Wifi-6 router, and crosses through two walls, one floor, and a garage shelf stacked with paint cans. My phone gets 1-2 wifi bars from that location, so I had some connectivity concerns. In the end wifi signal strength was not a problem. Before Amazon delivered the B-hyve, I downloaded the Android app, but stopped when it reached the point where it tried to initiate contact with the (B-hyve) device. Lesson for others, it's not worth downloading the app until the unit is in-hand and powered on. When the B-hyve was delivered, I connected the unit to the 24VAC adapter and powered it up in my living room. I started the Android phone app and continued through the process of setup.. initially through Bluetooth. As mentioned in another review there is RISK involved in connecting the unit to Wifi because you enter your wifi SID and password into the phone app that is transmitted to the B-hyve unit. The B-hyve license agreement (aka terms) appears to follow strong European Union GDPR Personal Info (PI) regulations. I've contacted Orbit and asked if they collect or retain my router password. if Orbit doesn’t reply or replies affirmatively, I’ll have to think about whether the risk is worth keeping the unit. There’s NO reason why the router password needs to leave my home network and collecting it on Orbit servers would be an absolute breach of trust. I spent at least a couple of hours trying to program the B-hyve the first time. I was interested in watering my lawn (2 circuits/channels) using the "smart watering" feature, which uses inputs like soil, plant type, location info, and weather data to determine when and how to water. I was willing to abandon my wired outdoor Toro rain sensor that I used with my Rainbird controller. However my hanging plants and planters need every day, 2-3 times daily watering, once at 3p at the hottest part of the day. After over an hour of dicking around with "smart watering", I set up a manual program for the planters. Oh, btw, I had to go online to find out that you set up manual programming from the app Home screen, which is an Industrial Engineering FAIL since the app starts you on the Zone screen on first time startup (as in WTF Home screen? Oh That Home screen!) The thing about Smart Watering is that it forced the start time for my lawn watering at 6am. Apparently it's not smart enough to work around my planter manual program, and after much effort trying to change the Smart Watering start time, moved my manual program start time instead. That took about 30mins of dicking around. The Smart Watering system broke up my lawn watering into 3 cycles, repeated back to back. I guess that's to help the water sink in and reduces run off. Ok. I can deal with that, even though my yard is relatively flat. When I moved my control wires from my Rainbird to the B-hyve, I screwed up the order. But when connected for the first time, only #3 controller worked. And then when I cycled through the zones, only #3 turned on a circuit. After some trial error, it seems like the B-hyve gets confused if you power it off and on and DON'T close and restart the app. That said, I was more careful to insert the control wires fully and tighten it down with the (included! thx!) mini screwdriver. The cavity behind the cover was able to accommodate all the extra wire (power and control), so the finished installation is very neat (excellent!) I will say, the wifi convenience is nice. I can test/check the sprinkler system from anywhere in the yard, whereas in the past I would be running back and forth like a chicken with his head cut off. And I can monkey with the settings while relaxing in my living room. I also run a copy of the Android app in a Windows Bluestacks emulator session, for the rare instances I'm on my laptop and am too lazy to reach for my phone. And I resurrected my Toro rain sensor for one of my manual, backyard circuits, where all plants receive rain. (Update 5/1/21) Email reply extract from Orbit, regarding the B-hyve app's use of the router password: The password is not saved at all. It is only used to access the router, and it is never seen on our end by a person. That information is not stored. S****** D. B-hyve Project Manager

Nice product
This product worked perfectly for me. I didn't need all kinds of special features for how I use my sprinkler control box. Generally, I only water when the grass really needs to be watered (I live in a northern climate). Therefore, I am only using the manual control features the product offers. It certainly has many other features, but I have no experience on them to share with you. I liked the look and size of the box. Installation was pretty easy. I was replacing an existing controller. But, they could definitely improve the wire installation process. The screwdriver they supplied was difficult to use. I couldn't loosen several of the screws. I also couldn't determine what type of screwhead would work. Finally found a #0 phillips head screwdriver that worked easily.

Buyer Beware. This thing isn't so smart, you cannot count on it.
I had this controller for a couple of months. Easy enough to install, no complaints there. I ran this thing on smart watering and everything seemed to be going well. That is until the recent heat wave where temps were around 35C with no rain and full sun for a whole week. We went away on vacation for 5 days during the heat wave and came back to a horribly scorched lawn. I didn't know what happened, as I was getting the daily notifications my lawn was watered. I also would walk out to my car in the morning and see the overspray on the driveway. When I looked at the watering history I found that my front lawn was getting watered about 1 min every other day for the two weeks prior to our vacation. So the lawn was slowing drying out, then the heat wave hit and during those days the controller didn't water the front lawn at all. During these time periods, my other two zones were getting watered fine. The app even indicated they might be over watered. The soil moisture content indicated by the app (estimated by app) showed 60% for the back lawn and 1% for the front. But it was still putting water to the back and nothing on the front despite knowing it was bone dry! I'm honestly not sure what to do with this thing at this point. Because it hasn't saved me any water over last years usage, and now my lawn is dead. The notification is nice, but doesn't give you any info. You have to open the app and go through a several screens to find your watering history for each zone. Its an overly convoluted process for very useful and important info. I guess if you decide to buy this unit, make sure you check it constantly to ensure its smart watering program is making sense.

Enjoy your summer without worry, read the update
I couldn't be happier, the installation took about 30 minutes, took the wires out of old one and add them to new one, got the app, pair it with device. From here every thing optional, got outside with my phone and added some information about each station, took pictures and then forgo the programming went with smart program. Great product, easy to use, and not too expensive! Go get one, make life a breaze! Update couple of months later If we have rain you can delay the watering and your app shows that it delay the watering but the device does not obay and keep watering even while raining. So on app I turned off the smart watering to program it myself, again the device is ignoring the off command and still keep watering. Since two days ago I have turned off the option of smart watering and I haven't sat any programs for any station, so everything should be off but wake up this morning to go to work and the sprinkler was on and the app gave me a notification that watering has finished! I'll try to contact the company see if I am doing anything wrong!

Can’t find my wifi anymore….
Well ! I tought it would work for more than a year but for my b-hyve, it only lasted 8 months… it does not want to connect to my wifi anymore… it is as if there is no wifi around it… even if all else is connected… must be something with the unit itself… i am disapointed and will not by another…

Good controller for the price
It is good controller. I was able too configure it using Bluetooth. The app is good. Does not provide a web interface. I would have liked to access it without the app. The biggest disappointment was that its smart watering function is not smart at all. It would be watering even when it is raining. It does read the weather forecast but IMO it is not capable of acting based on it. Be aware if you are buying for the “smart” functions. Otherwise plain vanilla programmed function works as expected.

So far so good.
I have purchased this product to replace an old Orbit 1024 controller. The connection was straight forward. One to one connection, as my old controller, 1 wire per zone and the common wire. With an additional pair for the power which is ac, so there is no positive or negative to worry about. I would have liked to use my old transformer as the wires were already nicely anchored along the wall but the old transformer was a 26vac 600ma while the new one is 24vac 750ma. Close but to avoid potential issues with the wifi module, I have replaced the old transformer. The programming was simple because it uses similar principles as my old controller. With the ABCD groups and the Zones. If I hadn’t seen this on my old controller, I presume I would have had to look up programming instructions. Seeing other reviews (which are old and maybe outdated) who report issues with rain delays and smart watering, I have disabled all these features for now. My primary goal was to be able to manually force watering remotely. So for now all went well, setup was good, it used Bluetooth to my phone app to get the wifi setup. And first night of scheduling worked as expected. It is highly customizable as for even / odds / selectable week days / multiple watering schedules on same day. My only concern so far is that the logo on the controller which is illuminated by an LED seems to have a very slight flicker. This is barely noticeable unless you stare at it from close (yes i did that). This is not a problem, but I wonder if it hides an issue waiting to emerge. I will do an update if anything else comes up.
