Good Quality, Heavy Base, Sturdy Frame
I needed a floor lamp with a heavy base and a strong frame, so our foster kittens couldn't knock it over. I'm definitely pleased with this lamp. I was very impressed with the quality - nice, thick metal and thicker plastic shade. I've purchased multiple floor lamps in the past from stores that cost way more and were cheap quality - super skinny, weak frames, light, unsteady bases, and flimsy shade. And the price for this is a steal for the quality you get. I'm considering buying a second for our bedroom because it actually looks really nice and not cheap at all.

Still love it...has held up 7 years as of 2022
The media could not be loaded. Update May 9, 2022: After seven years, not only have I never changed the bulb that came with it, it's still good as new. This has been in my bedroom, in use for long hours whilst writing night after night or just because. Easy to clean because I've never had to clean it lol, maybe my room isn't dusty but this hasn't attracted dust. Highly recommend if the quality is the same as it was in 2015. The one I bought my Gramma in 2013 held up well too, even after her passing in 2021. Great floor lamp! Update 09/05/15: I just bought one for myself and I really like it. I have a small room and this fits perfectly and lights it up as needed. It's as sturdy as the one I bought for my grandmother and hers is still going strong without issue. In the pictures you'll see the lamp, the lamp turned on, me standing near the lamp so you can see about how well it illuminates my room, then just for comparing of height to see that it is tall but not too tall as I (5'4") can easily reach the switch. One of the attachments was rusty on the inside, but whatever. The outside looks great and no scratches. It's not meant for glam, it's a light and it lights up lol. I like that the base is heavy and not wobbly on my carpet. Very easy to assemble, I didn't even look at the assembly instructions. This is a Mother's Day gift for my Gramma and hope she likes it and it lights up the room to her needs. I tested it in my living room at night and it illuminated nicely, how much it helps in the day I cannot say. The bulb that comes with it/the suggested 13W CFL (equivalent to standard 60 watt bulb) is a little dim, but I don't want the plastic shade to catch fire. It's a PLASTIC shade, guys so take this into consideration if you need more watts. No complaints from me, but if I hear any from her after using it, I will update. Fast delivery as well.

Best floor lamp for the price
This is an excellent floor lamp. Perfect for a dorm room, or anywhere you want a floor lamp. It's a little taller than expected, which is good, because then it's not easy to see into the open top. The top white portion is plastic, which looks just like frosted glass unless you touch it, so it's not top-heavy and it's unlikely to break even if it does fall over. The package in which it's shipped is very compact. Assembly is quick, simple, with excellent instructions, and no tools are required. I kept it in its package because it was so easy to bring to my kid's dorm room that way, and I'm glad that I took the gamble that I didn't have to assemble it in advance: assembly was easy with no problems. Nice looking aluminum, silver-colored shaft, with a heavy base. The cord is a reasonable length. Bulb is included. January 2014 update: The lamp I described above has worked fine for more than three months. I bought a second one of these lamps, because the first one is so good. Another lamp that someone bought for my kid's dorm room's common area broke, so this lamp is the replacement. At the time, I was tired and assembled it slowly, and it still took only ten minutes to assemble, with no tools. (The only tool I needed was sharp scissors to cut the tape that sealed the box.) 13 W compact fluorescent bulb is included, and provides light equivalent to about a 60 W incandescent bulb, or a little less. May 2014 update: these two floor lamps, purchased in August and December of 2013, are so reliable that they have survived in the dorm to the end of the academic year. The plan is to continue to use them in the dorm in the fall.

Can be used with LED bulb
I recently bought two of these torchiere lamps. I had wanted to trade in my halogen torchieres for LED ones, but all the LED lamps were exorbitantly expensive. I read the reviews for these torchieres (including the comments about the plastic lamp shade. Clearly this product is not designed to be used with halogen or incandescent bulb which put out much heat. However, LED lights put out even less heat than CFLs, and use less electricity. I did not use the provided 13W CFL bulbs, but installed 7W LED bulbs instead. I am extremely satisfied with this solution. True, these lamps provide basic illumination, and they will not likely win any prizes for innovative decor. However, the height is correct, the translucent shades provide all around lighting, not just towards the ceiling, which is both comfortable and bright. The LED bulb I used is equivalent to 60W incandescent in one lamp and 75W incandescent in the other lamp. Neither bulb uses as much energy as the CFL bulbs provided with this product. All in all, I have been trying to transition to LED lighting in my home, ever since the prices have begun to drop and the quality has improved. At this point I can say that I have now replace all the light in my house, in all locations and uses to LED lights. The place is every bit as well lit as it was before, and because I know that I am using only a fraction of the electricity I was using before, I am less inclined to hurry turning off lights. The house is better lit than it has been in a long time, and much more comfortable. In short, the use of LED lights in the torchieres was one of the final efforts to achieve full conversion, and I must report that I am extremely satisfied.
