Actually works
You'll never get a softshell waterproof but man do most water repellants not work on softshells. This stuff is great. With proper repellant my softshell is my do almost anything jacket. Even moderate rain beads off and can't soak my jacket enough to actually feel wet on the inside.

My results were very good
I used this to recondition two pairs of rain pants that my daughter and I use for fishing. These pants see some tough use. They get covered with fish slime, and see significant wear from boat seats and general misuse. One pair is Eddie Bauer, the other is Wilson. Both outer coverings seem to be a fine thread count nylon-ish material. My daughter's in particular had areas in which water would "wet" the fabric very quickly. I note that both pairs tended to hold water in areas where there was soil accumulation on the fabric. I think the key to this product working well is that the garment needs to be cleaned well prior to application. AND dried in a tumble dryer after application. I washed the garments first 2x using Nikwax Tech Wash. By hand, doing a thorough wash and rinse. Never... ever... wring. Don't use regular liquid laundry detergent. I think you can use a mild powder detergent, but I'm not a wealthy guy and I wanted to be cautious with expensive rain gear, so I used Nikwax. After washing I put in the dryer on low to dry it 90% of the way, and then air dried. Once dry, I sprayed on a very liberal amount of the waterproofing. Wear gloves. Rub it into the surface, pay extra attention to seams. I did this outside, in an area in which the drippings would not stain concrete. I do mean "soak" the garments. I had small pools of whitish liquid on the surface. I let that sit for 5 minutes, allowing them a good soak and tossed them into the dryer. I tumble dried on low for about 20 minutes, then put them on hangers to breathe. The water shedding on the exterior of these pants is as it was when new. No signs of white stains, both pants are dark colored. We have a week long excursion coming up; it will be good to see how well this holds up. So far, I am impressed.

Good but expensive
Used on 3 sets of Goretex rain gear. Works great and adds to gear longevity. Just wish it were more affordable... bit into my lunch budget.

Revived my old volcom jacket
It brought my 4 way stretch volcom jacket back to life after 5 seasons. I'm impressed. Way cheaper than a new jacket

Dont buy from amazon
About half of the bottle leaked in transit and amazon CS is useless. You cant ship it back to them (because it leaked because of their poor packaging) and they wont refund or replace without it being returned. Dont buy this on amazon. The product itself seems to work well tho because my hands now shed water. Its like a superpower where you dont need towels

Useful 2-3 times per year
This stuff works very well. Although it does not renew the full strength of the original DWR coating, it does restore it to 70-80%. DWR fades over time, it's just a property of the technology. What I really like about the Soft Shell Proof is that it cleans the jacket very well. I took my 2013 Arc'teryx Hyllus Hoody for a 9 month overseas trip, part of which involved 750 miles of hiking. By the end the jacket soaked up water and was filthy. After using this Nikwax, the jacket looked nearly brand new -- except for the pilling that occurred in the pits due to abrasion from wearing a pack for so long (considering turning to Arc'teryx to replace my jacket for this problem). But that said, the fleece lining on the inside was clean and soft, the black Soft Shell exterior was smooth and clean, and it was fairly waterproof, although as I said the DWR was not quite like new. I now use this product every 4-6 months, depending on use of my jacket. It sheds a fair amount of water in light rain, but doesn't compare to a Hard Shell for heavy rain conditions. To use it with my top loading washer I just run the washer on the smallest water volume setting, and wait for the water to fill up (heat depending on the jacket's washing directions), and then dump in the whole bottle once the washer is full. Afterwards I hang it to dry (some people recommend drying to lock in the DWR coating but I've never done that for fear of shrinking the jacket although it may work).

Works amazing, smells awful until completely dry!
Wow, this stuff does work for water repellency but holy moly does it smell something awful when you spray it on. It smells like a cat pissed on a skunks spray! Its not wide spread or all over the place, it stays on the thing you sprayed it on. Wasn't expecting it I guess and it really lights up the nostrils. Once it dries completely, no more smell which is also strange but I'll take it. Stuff works like a champ though. I have tuned up rain jackets, boots, and a few other things and am quite pleased with this stuff. I recommend as long as you got a place to let whatever you sprayed dry away from your nose then totally worth it.

Will not buy again
So first off seemed like it works for waterproofing but left a white residue all over my black softshell rain jacket. I've used similar products before on the same jacket and did not get any residue. The product also left a glue (like wood glue or Elmer's glue) smell behind. Overall the product seemed like it was a mixture of white glue watered down. Not happy with the product looks like other people had some success with it. The spray bottle it came in was good. Others I've used would clog up from spaying the solution so they got that part right.

Total and COMPLETE rip-off!!!!!
Unless you won the lottery AND have a sentimental attachment to a specific garment do NOT buy this rip-off product. ONE bottle does ONE wash unless you wash by hand as per the instructions on the label. Well at this insane price after a mere 5 washes I could have just bought a new jacket. I bought this for my cycling gear however wish I hadn't. According to Nikwax anytime the garment need laundering this should be used. Okay so one single off-road bike ride in less than ideal (aka: Spring and / or Fall) and now the jacket has mud on it. So as per the instructions I will have to buy 3-5 bottles per week in the poor weather season. Never ever ever will I buy Nikwax again... EVER. Forget it, I'll use regular laundry detergent because most garments waterproofing last 30 - 40 washes anyways so I will have saved myself $510 to $680 by NOT using Nikwax Softshell. I could have bought 4 more identical jackets that amount.

Huge disappointment for the price point
Works fine if your going to treat your jacket or other items and just go stand in the rain but any rubbing packpack straps, hiking and brushing against trees and for that matter coming in contact with snow removes any protection you though the product might give. Tried a second treatment taking more time and follow the directions to the letter, same disappointing results.

It actually works on my softshell!
The media could not be loaded. This might be the most popular one in the market so I decided to give it a try. I choose the spray rather than wash-in format since that's what was suggested by the comment under one of Arc'teryx videos. It works really great and I can see the beaming effect again on my jacket, especially on the high-wear area like cuff and shoulder. The only thing I don't like is the smell - very chemical and stinky when spraying it so I'd recommend to do it outdoor. Luckily not much smell left after getting out from dryer.

Not working at all
I bought this product for a jacket that used to be waterproof but with the years lost the water protection. I applied 3/4 parts of the bottle to the jacket as advertised. I let it dry for 5 days. After the first light rain, the jacket was totally wet, the product didnt improve at all the jacket waterproof.
