Finding an Outlet Box to Fit This Fixture Might Be Difficult

The Nicor SureFit light fixture works great but most electrical outlet boxes will not be large enough to hold it. I installed the light in an existing ceiling (inaccessable from above) where you would normally use an old-work box but I could not find one that was nonmetalic and 20 cubic inches (as required in the Nicor instructions) and wide enough to hold the Nicor light. I ended up buying a Carlon B620K box from HD and adapting it for old work. I discarded the steel bar attached to the box, drilled a small hole in the flat side of the box and screwed and glued the B620K box to the side of a joist above the ceiling.

Unique low-profile fixture...but the glare!

Full disclosure: I received this item for free through the Amazon Vine program. This Nicor LED fixture is pretty good for what it claims to do: it makes it relatively easy to convert a junction box to a light fixture. What it sacrifices is light quality - it is a glare bomb with no cutoff. I had a spot where I wanted more light, but it didn't have a junction box. Since this light needs a j-box and I'm in the Chicago area, I had to buy a deep (3.5") metal octagon box at the local hardware store (buyer beware, the price on Amazon for the same junction box was 2.5x higher). The light comes with some stab-in wiring connectors, so the actual wiring hookup took less than a minute. The light comes on almost instantly. Faster than another light I have on the same switch. I have not yet hooked it up to a dimmer, so I cannot comment on dimming quality or dimmer compatibility. The color of the light and the color rendering appears to my eyes as high quality. But as I mentioned above, the fixture has no cutoff and is pumping 700 lumens out of a tiny 2" aperture. The result is a lot of glare. In the location I'm using it (boiler room), that doesn't present a problem. But if you were thinking of these in a kitchen, office, living room, etc., I would think twice. My last comment is on the price/value. I think these are priced high given the simplicity and what you can get (higher quality light fixture) for the same price. I think they would be a good value at less than 20 bucks.

Couldn't get it installed

It seems to be made of great quality and reading the other reviews I wish I could of got it installed. But my electrical wires don't have the right piece to connect it.

Pay close attention to product description!

The requirements to install this light were above my comfort level. This light requires a very specific lighting caseing/mounting structure. I thought what I have was compatability, but I was wrong. That's on me. Don't make the same mistake. This isn't a light bulb, it's a light system with wires to be attached and connected to your home lighting system.

Wasn't very clear in installation instructions

I had all the necessary pieces but I couldn't figure out how to install it, maybe best to leave light installation to the professionals! The description on Amazon vine also wasn't very clear about what it was, and i thought it was a light that could just be attached to the wall. Most likely user error issues.

Difficult to install

I haven't been able to install these lights yet due to fitting and wiring. I do love the fact that they are low profile/flat and can give a more modern look to aroom/home.

its a really nice light, but doesn't quite fit older electrical boxes.

I installed this light in a hallway to replace a very old fixture that I couldn't find a replacement globe for. it feels well made and is quite bright for the size. I honestly don't notice anything from the high CRI rating, maybe the photos on the wall look a little crisper. but I don't really know if that is due to the CRI rating or because it's brighter than what was previously there. now, there were some installation issues. my home was built in the '70s and due to how much of this fixture is recessed into the electrical box it isn't fully compatible with the older small steel boxes in my home. there are two screw holes that line up perfectly, but when installed it is a really tight fit and doesn't quite sit flush. it's good enough for me but not really optimal. so if you have an older home take a look at the box in your ceiling before purchasing. also, the push connectors are usually something I always cut off and replace with quality 3m red yellow wire nuts. but these being LED and such low current draw I'm not concerned about them causing any issues. but, if you live in an older home like me you might not have a ground wire in the box, so you will either have to add a ground pigtail to the box or cut the push connector off the ground wire and bond the wire directly to the box with a screw. its not a defect of the light, just something to keep in mind. overall its a good light and should work perfectly in all newer plastic boxes, but if you have an older home check what size box you have first.

Make sure you get an electrical box with at least 20 cubic inches of space otherwise you will not have enough room in the box. if you do that though everything else about this light fixture is great.
