Works well, a little confusing to hang up
I must say it was only the photograph here on Amazon that helped me figure out how to hang this device on the door! I admit to being not the most mechanical sort - and the device is pretty much assembled - but which way and how to place the hinge on the door was not obvious to me, and the instructions were not well done at all. I have used it for several weeks now and I have felt some relief with my neck (I have chronic neck issues including 'reversed' neck curve). It seems to be well made, and the velcro straps on the canvas that holds the head is strong and adheres well. The thing has a rather ominous appearance hanging up but it is too much trouble to take up and put down repeatedly. I hide mine behind a curtain! The system is pretty simple once you've tried it once - you just hear the clicks as you pull the strap, and that tells you that you are lifting your head another level; you start out with a small stretch and add more gradually. Strongly advise you to think long and hard and do some research before purchasing since you can't return it! Also make sure you have a place to put it where you can stand to be for awhile - I did not have any doors that faced a TV for example, and you'd be surprised how long 10 or 15 minutes can seem with your faced scrunched up and just hanging there! I ended up putting mine on my curtain rod in the living room, so I could at least watch tv. Also it is true as others mentioned here that there is a lot of pulling on the chin by the head strap, so for people with TMJ this may not be a good idea. Used with proper caution and care, this is a bargain compared to ongoing chiro or PT visits, or some of the other devices available.

Not as good as the previous version
I have the previous version of the NeckPro and ordered the NPII to have at my second home in case I need it. The previous model is much better built than this one. The ratchet and the door bracket on the NPII is all plastic now and cheaper built in my opinion. The previous version has a solid metal door bracket and better built ratchet that had a 150lb load rating. The new ratchet will slip at 25 lbs of applied force. If you are a big person this may not be adequate. I suppose this new version of this device has been lawyered up just in case someone improperly attached the door bracket and it fell on their head. I also suspect the new version is cheaper to build from the manufacturer's profit standpoint as well. I am almost 6' @ 200 lbs and I prefer the previous NP. Does the new NPII work? - yes it will work for me but I don't like the way it's been changed. I don't trust the plastic bracket although it should not break with the ratchet slip of 25 lbs. I don't like the slip in the new ratchet. I have to max the NPII out in order to do my neck any good - but that is just me. The attached photo shows the difference between the two versions. More time will tell.

Good solution, but not without flaws.
I have been doing manual neck stetches for years and have always felt relief. I was diagnosed with narrow spurs in my neck over 15 years ago and have suffered from a lot of tension, headaches, stiffness, and pain over the years. This traction device is extremely easy and convenient to use. I honestly was unaware and had not really looked for anything like this assuming solutions would be too expensive and only found in the offices of physical therapists. I love this device and bought it out of desperation despite some of the reviews I read about it. In saying that I will confirm the major issue with this device is the clamp that holds it over the door. It only closes so far and doesn't work for my narrow closet door where there is space allowing it to move around and come off under pressure. I also was unable to close my closet door with this on it, so I too experienced metal crashing down into my head at one point. After that I attempted to use it over the back of my front door. My front door was much thicker and it closed with it on it. It worked great. Somebody else mentioned running a bolt through the device and the door to ensure stability - I think I will try this as I don't want this on my front door all of the time. If you need this to be more portable, then this would be a problem, but nothing a custom solution couldn't solve. This is good to know going in, as you don't want to get cracked in the head. I gave it 4 stars because of the safety issues, but it is a great product once you get it figured out.

I remember my father using one of these traction devices years ago with great success, so when I started to experience symptoms related to the compressed disks in my neck, I decided I would give this unit a try. What attracted me was the fact that a ratchet mechanism provided the traction rather than unwieldy metal weights or a water bag. I tried the unit once per instructions and did not experience any pressure on my head or scalp due to the designer's omission of a spreader bar. I believe this was an issue for some reviewers. During my first session, however, my jaw started to tire, since my jaw muscles were constantly resisting the upward pressure from the strap. I used the device for the first time in the evening, and then I went to bed. In the morning I awoke with a sore jaw. In my research of cervical traction methods, I had read that some people cannot tolerate pressure on the jaw. Since I had never experienced jaw discomfort, I thought I would be safe in at least trying the device. Considering the fact I was in pain 10 hours after using the unit just once, I did not want to continue using the item and potentially develop more serious jaw problems. The pain lasted for a couple of hours before gradually subsiding. The question of whether this product works well has more to do with whether or not it is appropriate for a particular individual. I can say that it applied traction evenly and comfortably to my neck during the actual treatment session, but personally I will not be using it again.

It broke in less than a month
purchased this because I have used one before and it does provide relief. this one is much more cheaply made than the last one I purchased. I have had it since August 24th, used it approximately once/day for approximately 5 minutes at a time until today (Sep 22) when the plastic part that goes over the door snapped off and the pulley hit me in the head (okay funny visual). I am 5'6" and 115 pounds. If you purchase I would find a solid place to hook into the ceiling without using the door piece. Have to go find a place to hook it up....
