Easy Install, Easy Adjustment

I installed this spring on my 42” wide by 4’ high cedar gate. Install was very easy, just follow the directions on the back of the package. Once installed I adjusted the tension by turning the top hex head about 1/2 turn, then slipped-in the small steel shim. Gate closes easily. Note that this spring should be installed as vertically as possible, and it helps if the post and gate are at about the same depth, so the spring easily clears the post. As in the directions, the top and bottom brackets are tilted slightly to the right, to keep the spring perfectly straight. I don’t expect this spring to last forever, I’ve replaced a few over the years, but it’s easy to install, easy to adjust, and relatively inexpensive.

It is so so. It is noisy and too strong for the first 45 degrees, but did not extend to 90 without stretching out

I have the exact gate that is expected for one of these spring set ups. But, I found it to not be workable. The spring was very noisy as the gate opened. The spring stretched out when I opened the gate at a 90 degree and did not have the ability to close the gate all the way after the second time. Also, there was no powder coat or paint under the tightening bolt (rotating the bolt exposed unpainted area). It was not the piece for me. But since I stretched the spring out, I kept it and used it to hold my gate together a little better. I need to be able to get my lawn mower out the gate, so I could not have it only open a little bit. I will probably use spring loaded hinges to do the job of keeping my gate shut.

It’s a strong spring.

I have heavy gates with motors. The motors are having trouble getting one gate to begin closing because of bad geometry (my fault). The spring gives just enough extra push when the gate is open to get it started. Then it’s fine and has no trouble closing. A wooden gate or a light metal gate would be no problem for this spring. You’ll need a 1” open end box wrench the adjust the spring tension.

So this works great. Just follow instructions. You mount on hinge area, use a wrench to adjust, place the mini steel bar behind tension bolt, bam closes at strength you want. It's made to push closed not pull closed. Great value for $13.

Works like a charm.

I got these for the simplicity. Worked well even on a metal gate. Thinner gauge metal so a quick and easy Install. It’s a minor expense for our townhouse community that really makes a difference.

Installed as instructions and the tension was too strong - hard to open gate, Adjusted as in pictures and works but only 1 screw on bottom. hope it holds up
