great fall crisp
The media could not be loaded. REVIEW Another video to let you see what the beer looks like. FYI don't trust the description on the Mr. Beer box. The video supports other reviewers' comments that the color does not match the picture or description. OPINION I like it! I let it ferment for 20 days and carbonate in the bottles for 10 days. The longer cycle wasn't intentional---I was busy. I chilled one quick and it was good. I left others in the fridge for a few days and they were great. It has a nice fruity taste with a little zing of maltiness. My tastebuds aren't grabbing a bunch of malt nor hoppy flavor, which is fine for me. The aftertaste is fresh, like a cider. I'm not getting any bitter flavor, either. WHAT SPECIAL THINGS DID I DO TO IT? Not much. I added 1.5 cups of white sugar to the malt to bring the ABV up to 5 or 5.2%, depending on if you believe online estimations (I don't have any fancy measuring tools yet). I usually add honey or a fruit. Glad I didn't add any here because this beer has a great range of tastes in it. It's a perfect kind of fall beer when you want to sip on something fresh. WHAT BREWING STUFF DID I LEARN? Trust the instructions. After fermenting and when I went to bottle/carbonate the beer, I had been adding 1.5 tsp of sugar. That is far too much for a 16 oz bottle! I followed the instructions of 1 tsp and didn't get overly carbonated brew this time. It is fun to watch friends release the top and jump back when it makes a "pop" but that also gave me too many bubbles in the beer. I think a little over 1 tsp would be an improvement but only 1 tsp will work. THE MR. BEER DESCRIPTION Rich golden color, exceptionally well balanced full malt flavor and mild bitterness, with a subtle hint of finishing hop aroma. NB: This refill does NOT have a golden color. In fact, I would agree with other reviewers that most of the description is off. Oh, and I don't think it tastes anything like a Sam Adams nor does it remind me of Boston beyond its name. This brew is closer to an Angry Orchid without the sugar overload or fizzle/carbonation but, even then, it stands alone. I could drink a six-pack of these beers but not of Angry Orchid. WHAT AM I BREWING NEXT? A porter methinks. The winter draws near and I want a stronger tasting beer.

Oktoberfest kit was fresh, yeast performed well, the extract was tasty, and I ended up with a great brew.
Ordered 3/12/2015 and was promptly shipped and was very fresh. The expire date was 1 year and several months out. This was my 4th Mr Beer brew and my best so far. This kit does a great job, no issues and I will be buying again soon I'm sure. Modifications - I wanted a little more ABV so I added an additional 1lb 2.4 oz Briess Amber LME (I was shooting for 1lb) and also added 1oz Hallertau hops to balance the additional malt. I used a glass carboy instead of the Mr. Beer keg since I had a carboy available. Recipe - I brought ~1.5 gallons of spring water to a boil, added the 1 lb 2.4 oz Amber Briess LME and the hops, boiled for 20 minutes. Burner off. Added the Mr Beer hopped extract, cooled in ice bath. Added spring water to about 2+ gallons for an OG of 1.054. I aerated the wort (shook the glass carboy for several minutes) and pitched the dry Mr. beer yeast. Fermentation took off within 8 hrs, the yeast did a great job and active fermentation tapered off within 5 days. I left it in the carboy for 4 weeks to finish. FG was 1.007, which is ~87% attenuation and ABV ~6.3%. I kegged straight to a corney keg, and forced carbonated. Taste- Malty and smooth, great head that sticks around. Nice finish and good ABV level. Additional thoughts - Mind your sanitation, I'd recommend getting some Star San and use as directed. Oktoberfest technically is a lager recipe but this kit is intended to be fermented at ale temperatures and does so very well. I would recommend keeping the fermentation temp on the low end ~68. My first few batches fermented warmer than ideal and you could tell. Also, do not be in a hurry! Let this sit for a few weeks at least. Dark ales should be 3-4 weeks. Green beer is not good! Summary - This kit was fresh, yeast performed well, the extract was tasty, and I ended up with a great brew. Will buy again! Update - That 2 gallons did not go far, the keg kicked tonight. :o( That was a really nice brew. I already have my next brew lined up but I'm very tempted to jump on the Mr. Beer website's 30% off sale and grab some for some double batches... that sale is going on for a few more days. (I gave in - double batches of Oktoberfest, Voodoo, and Dark Forest Stout are on the way :o)

A smooth amber that could be a staple beer
OPINION Another enjoyable batch. It's not very hoppy. Drinks like a light amber beer with some bitterness to it. This is one of those refreshing kinds of beers where it's easy to drink several of them in a row if you are thirsty. I have not been very adventurous lately in adding hops or many other flavors. My main goal is to get into a routine of brewing consistently and then I will start experimenting (I could deal with a less desirable batch last as long as I have reserves). For the more curious folks, check out the recipes online at the Mr. Beer website (I tried posting a link but it keeps getting removed from my review). There are plenty of ways to make tasty beers. The plus is that you can get multiple cans of malt for cheaper than buying them individually. The downside is that Mr. Beer still isn't selling the recipe packs on Amazon. I wrote them an email to suggest selling the recipes here in addition to the refills. Maybe one day... PROCESS I fermented for 12 days, bottled for 14 days, and then conditioned it in the fridge for 5 days. There was no sugar in the house (darn baked goods) so I switched over to using 1.5 cups of Gunter's pure honey orange blossom, which added in about 1.3% ABV, bringing my beer up to 5.0% ABV. The honey may have added a sweet taste but I didn't pick up that much of it. As usual in my reviews (since these pages still don't have them!), here is the description about the beer from the box: Rich amber color, light toasty malt character with a citrusy hop aroma and crisp bitterness.

Completely surprised how good this is!
This was a last minute purchase to prep some beer for a party. Had my doubts…but was happy all around. Easy to make and was very tasty. 2 gallons goes fast when it has good flavor. Will buy again!

then bottled with sugar and tried one after 2 weeks (as the bottle was rock hard) and it tasted really good, but a slight sweet
First time making it, I did what the instructions said except left ferment exactly 3 weeks, then bottled with sugar and tried one after 2 weeks (as the bottle was rock hard) and it tasted really good, but a slight sweet side. It was good and very bubbly (I used a slight excess sugar than recommended, which is why probably the sweet to it, it wasn't 'apple cider tasting' as many have said after a couple weeks). I waited a few more days and had a few more. Good again, not really any sweetness but these 2 bottles were just a bit cloudy when pouring the second glass out of the same bottle (like the first). Which is to be expected. I'm leaving the rest bottle for 4 weeks and I'm sure it will be a great beer. Longer you wait, the better the beer. I'd have to say it tasted almost exactly like dos equis for some reason. I liked it, and won't need a liquor store any longer. Will try a couple others like the Cdn blonde and Am light (since it came with the kit, although I hate light beer)

good tasting, so so value
The beer tastes great and is easy to make but the price of Mr. Beer keeps climbing so I would recommend a full size brewing kit instead.

An astonishingly good stout - a must try!
This is by far the best Mr Beer home brew I have done to date. An astonishingly authentic stout with amazing flavours and - most importantly - a creamy head that stayed all the way to the bottom of the glass. I never thought I would brew something as good as this. It's black, opaque, and think, just like a stout should be. Complex flavours and a satisfying finish. I also managed to get the carbonation right so it had a good amount of fizz. This is NOT Guinness but it's a good general stout.

Good buy
Great buy and good taste but turned into more of a pale ale look
