After purchasing my 5th frother, I thought it was time to write a review!
I love this frother - the sustainability of not requiring electricity and the wonderful foam it produces are my top reasons for using this. I use all kinds of dairy and non-dairy products, and find that the "Unsweetened" versions of non-dairy beverages do not froth well. The "Original" versions froth beautifully, making for a fabulous morning latte. I put the milk in the microwave for 90 seconds and that seems to be the perfect amount of heat. Occasionally it gets a bit hot while pumping, so I just grab a towel, but usually it's fine. I have gone through 5 of these, but that's over a 20 year period! I occasionally need to buy new screens as they get ratty and bent out of shape over the years. Very occasionally I drop the glass beaker and have to replace it. I preferred the old pump mechanism, which was all metal, so I have kept it all these years. This version has more plastic and feels cheap. The price has gone up $9 over the years.

Makes really good cappucino froth
Had one of these for years after having tried a few other styles and this is the only one that really works to make good foam. BUT, it is fragile so you must handle the glass karaffe with care. Hand wash and dry gently and it'll last you. To make good, thick froth use cold fat free milk (works best), pump it 20 times as indicated (this adds air to the milk), let sit as noted, then put in micro for 30 - 40 seconds. Depends on your micro and the longeryou do it the karaffe may get hot so remove with a towel or such to protect hands. Top will be thick then looser froth then thicker toward bottom. If karaffe not hot, then put in micro for 10ish more seconds to make thicker foam. Add froth to coffee and if not as stiff as you like, pop the cup of coffee with foam in the micro to plump. Enjoy!

Sturdy
2020: Replacing a similar item that wore out. This one is much better quality. I looked for a replacement for 3 years, when I saw this item, I bought 2! 2022: I don't think I need a spare, so I have a great gift waiting for the right person. So pleased. I use it with whole milk, and it froths just as well as with 2% (which I believe is recommended). It's perfect to cool down scalding hot coffee, use it rather than the foaming attachment on my espresso machine. I fill with sudsy water immediately with more frothing action and it's clean in a wink. Periodically I disassemble and clean more thoroughly

Who knew lattes could be so easy!
I bought this on a friend’s recommendation and it’s been great! Rich, creamy froth from fat-free or 1% milk with 20 easy pumps of the plunger. I had no idea that lattes at home were so easy, and chai tea lattes are as good as any (Stash Tea from Amazon, Italian vanilla bean syrup). Haven't tried Irish coffee or other recipes yet, but I'm sure they'll be just as good. The instructions say fat-free works best, but we've mostly used 1%. Either way, it's so rich that there’s no temptation to try 2% or whole milk, and the low fat content means the frother rinses off easily. Some reviews mention that the carafe is made of thin glass, and while thicker would be nice, I don't think it's problematically thin. The only thing I'm not sure of yet is whether the froth is fine enough to allow for elaborate designs on top of a cup of coffee. The froth is rich and thick, but because the designs take practice I don’t know yet if it’s my lack of experience or the froth, but I think it’s the former. There are videos on how to make those designs, but they make it clear that it requires practice. (Check out, "How to do a coffee milk design" by Sandy Prismatic.) One video mentioned the "micro-foam" that's required, but even if the Bon Jour foam isn't sufficiently micro to allow for the more intricate designs I'm getting closer to making it work on the less intricate ones.

Very messy
I have tried several frothers. This one does froth the milk very well, but is extremely messy. I would not use this if you are all dressed in your clothes for the day. As many have noted, the glass container seems fragile, so you need to be exceptionally careful with it. It would be nice if the manufacturer made the glass container a little thicker. I usually heat my milk up in a separate container, because I do not want to do anything that might cause the glass to crack, such as changes in temperature (cold to warm/hot). If you put the amount of milk in that is suggested, you have an extreme mess on your hands. I'll explain that later. I found that the amount of milk suggested is too much for one person's drink. The biggest issue comes when you are pumping the milk (that's how it froths- you pump the milk up and down in the glass container). The glass has a pour spout. Milk goes through that spout when you pump, creating a mess everywhere. That is my biggest problem with this product. The directions say that you should pump it 20 times, but it does not need that. The milk expands (becomes frothy) prior to that, and the more you pump, the more milk comes out of the spout. I have to say that it does a good job frothing, but I am not sure it is worth it, based on the mess that it creates.

Much sturdier than you'd expect, great foam!
When I first received this I was a little surprised at how fragile it felt and appeared. I used it VERY carefully at first, heating my milk in another container first, while heating this up in a bowl of warm water so that it didn't shatter. Looking back, wow, was I being silly. I've had this for just shy of a year and now I put it in the microwave, dishwasher and honestly, I'm not that careful with it. It's much more solid than it looks. As far as it's ability to froth, honestly, it's terrific. I only have one thing to complain about and that is that if I get too carried away with the plunger, hot milk spurts out of the pour spout, but that is mentioned as a possibility in the directions. Personally, I think that if they just went to a plastic molded lid (which would need a few air holes on the top for air movement/suction issues) that included/covered the pour spout then it would be perfect! I'm still giving it 5 stars though as I now don't know what I'd do without it. UPDATE: March 2019... I'm STILL using it. Still working, not broken it. Still shocked. Still Loving it.

Good for non-dairy milk!
I was searching for a manual milk frother for quite a while, and this one is the best I’ve found. It’s a perfect size for a single cup serving. The fit of the plunger is good - which seems to be very important when frothing non-dairy milks as they are more difficult to froth. With the removable base, it’s easy to pop the glass in the microwave to heat up the milk and help stabilize the froth. After trying 3 others, this was hands down the best one for me.

Froths as expected
Bought this so I could be fancy and sip on London Fog. This frother works very well. I would buy it again if needed.
