Information on pulling cartridges
Roman Tub
Scritto da: JR
Easy to install
Great price, easy to install thanks to the people who posted other reviews. Moen does not have an installation video for this item. Based on comments from others, I was able to make a tool to remove and reinstall out of a piece of my old childhood erector set. I used one of the 9 hole flat metal pieces. I bent it into a “U” at the 4th hole. Then I used a metal axel rod from the same set to put through the holes to create a handle. The stem screw fit through perfectly and snugged up nicely. The old valve came right out. I lubed up the new valve with some “super lube” grease and easily pressed it into place. There is a notch on the valve that needs to be lined up before you press it in. As far as removing and installing the retainer, I did it with a small screwdriver. I spun it with the screwdriver until it was high enough to finish with my finger. I saw the tool online that is used for removing the retainer and for the $4.00, I would recommend buying it along with the valve. It would have made removing and installing the retainer a lot easier and without the risk of damaging the brass threads with a screwdriver. My installation went well. Thank you to the others who took the time to write a review!

Review for Roman Tub faucet
If you're buying this for Moen's roman tub faucet, get ready for some fun. The Moen roman tub faucet has an extra deep socket for this cartridge. This means that the standard cartridge puller will not be long enough. Here's what I did: 1. First remove the handle 2. Remove the extension piece. It just pulls out 3. With a pipe wrench (with duct tape of the cleats), remove the decorator bezel 4. Remove the cartridge retainer cylinder nut. It's plastic and is screwed out from the inside. They have a special tool for this but I just used some pliers to get it started and then it screwed out by hand. 5. The cartridge is now free and can be pulled. It's a tight fit and a standard puller is not deep enough. I used a piece of perforated plumbers banding. Just bend the metal into a long U with a perforation at the base. Attach the screw through the bracket and into the cartridge. Use a screw driver for leverage with some perforations at the top of the U and pull up with a lot of force. With enough force, the cartridge will come out. Install New Cartridge: Coat the new o rings with plumbers silicone grease and jam the new cartridge into the socket. There is a notched part in the cartridge that will align with into socket. Screw the retainer piece back in and rebuild the handle in the same manner you disassembled. Google Moen 1248 or see the insert that comes with the part for more detailed info. It's just not quite written for a roman tub so it's a little tough to follow. Only 3 stars to Moen since the new cartridge smashed apart the first time I installed it. They don't emphasize or even mention the grease. In my case it was a must. In general, the cartridge could be better built. Moen was very kind to send me a new part. Good luck finding this locally. Amazon is the best for items like this.

Good replacement
Works, just as it said it would. Very easy job, and fit perfectly. I have done many of these valve replacements with moen products. So much better and easier on the pocket when you can replace the cartridge and not the entire shower assembly for hundreds of dollars or thousands of dollars to replace the whole shower because the valve is behind tile that can't be color matched. The entire shower must come out. Do yourself a favor, get a moen shower or shower/tub valve that is cartridge replaceable. Then buy the replacement to keep at the house, so when it does fail, years later, you will have a replacement already. Finish the job in 5-15 minutes depending and not have any calcium buildup on your tub faucet or shower head from it leaking for months. Yeah it's not a grohe, but replacement parts are easy to find and don't cost an arm and a leg.

Mine will ship them to you for free.
Best to replace these both if one goes bad replace both of them. Also you can get them for free from Moen just call their customer service department.

he said these are the same that he uses and they went in fine. Not sure how much I saved
I had a plumber come and replace these valves as the originals were old and rusted, causing them to leak. I knew costs for his parts would be a lot, so I purchased these and had them waiting for him when he arrived. He originally told me "I don't know if the parts that I don't buy personally will work", but as he inspected these, he said these are the same that he uses and they went in fine. Not sure how much I saved, and if I could have gotten the original cartridges out myself I could have saved the plumber call.

Just what I needed
This worked as advertised and was the perfect fit for my Roman tub. Be sure to read the reviews of others for hints on how to remove the old cartridge -- I'm not sure I could have removed the old cartridge if I hadn't read them. Also be sure to use some plumbers grease on the cartridge prior to replacement. It definitely helps it to seal better. To assist in removing the old and installing the new cartridge, I purchased the Danco Perfect Match 60885 Moen Cartridge Puller and the less expensive Moen 14272 Cartridge Retainer Tool for the 2 Handle Cartridge. The Moen 14272 Removal Tool was all I needed, and it fit better than the Danco Cartridge Puller. So for this Cartridge you can save a little money and purchase just the Moen 14272 Tool.

Hard to install
It's s good product but installation is terrible. I had to buy extra tools. Make sure you use silicone grease, otherwise, removal is a pain ...
