Party like its 1995
This is perhaps the most ridiculous thing I've ever bought. Here's why: 1. You need either a serial port (which hasn't been on a computer or laptop in over 10 years) or a usb adapter. 2. The software had all sort of compatibility issues with Windows 10 that I had to google to fix. 3. The interface is something out of 1995. 4. Good luck getting replacement cable if this flimsy thing frays. 5. Doing anything feels like you're doing it in the most complicated convoluted way possible. 6. Lots of troubleshooting required. Always a problem. 7. And to top all of that off, the price for this antiquated dinosaur of a program/system is outrageous. I give it 2 stars instead of 1 because if you pay extremely close attention to every tiny detail you CAN get it to work properly. We use this for events at our facility and are always reprogramming the door schedule and when it works its nice to not have to babysit a door. However, if I ever need something similar again I'd look into other products.

Computer takes some time to get setup, but it saves you hours of punching numbers on the lock.
Worth every penny! It took a bit of work to get it working, but after I got it setup I was able to program an entire staff (30+ people) in 20 minutes on a computer and 30 seconds at the lock.

You can do much better, I'm sure.
Not easy to use, not easy to install. Came here looking for a replacement cable as the one that came with it easily frayed and decided I'd make a couple comments. We've had one of these to administer two locks for four years now. Collecting information about the traffic through one of the locks is one trip to the lock and back to your computer, and a trip to update the lock is a separate trip to and fro. If your locks are nowhere near your desk that makes it very inconvenient. I suppose you could install the software to a laptop and save yourself the trip, if you have one laying around for this. Shortly after buying it, the unique two-pronged cable that came with it began to fray where the cable connects to the prongs. It didn't take long and nothing special or strenuous was done to cause this. If you need a replacement cable like I do: GOOD LUCK. Even searching their corporate website I can only find info on ordering the locks and DTM modules. Only reason it gets two stars rather than one is because it actually does work (when you have a working cable). It's just not easy to use. And it really doesn't have an OFF button, which is bad for something that runs on a 9 volt. You just have to wait for it to time out and turn off on its own.

Horrid instructions
I have had to go through the instructions on setting up the Data Transfer Module 3 (DTM) multiple times to try and get it so that it would not only download the lock data from the DL4 Windows program to the DTM (no problem their) but also so I could get the DTM too actually upload the data to the lock (no luck their). DON'T waste your time calling Alarm Lock - they know nothing about supporting THEIR own product/s and will refer you to your local sales rep. Three weeks later and I am STILL trying to get the DTM to upload to the lock! I've read the manual multiple times (at least 5x) and I've reset the lock to factory specs (at least 3x) and still no luck (reminder...not only is the manual lousy but tech support sucks). I've also tried uploading the lock data via the DTM and a PC. Neither work! Pro - * If it would work it might be good for one or two door locks/readers. Cons - * User Manual sucks - it gives one useful instruction and then a few pages later after sifting through various bs) it gives another useful piece of info. Please note the info in between point A & B apply to totally different things. After sifting through it and writing a flowchart of "how to" I still can't get it to program the lock? * The buttons/case on the DTM are cheap. You have to hold them "just right" to get them to make contact. * Our local sales rep/tech support person has not returned our calls. * More then a few doors and you will spend all of your time changing and updating users/cards.

These are the worst possible systems you can buy
These are the worst possible systems you can buy. the amount of steps you have to go through, the routine, the time it takes. Horrible. Absolutely overpriced, unnecessarily complicated and just useless half the time. These are outdated systems. Buy anything new and simpler.
