Great base or top coat

I use this product on many of my projects. I use the product in it's original form for base coats for stain and also top coats to lighten stain. You can use a rag or paper towel and it blends the color perfectly, if you don't want the rustic look.

Beautiful color!!

I used this stain to refinish a bedroom set that was very dark. After sanding down the old finish, I brushed this on and wiped off with a cotton rag just like any other stain. Very easy to use, although I didn’t follow instructions on the can. I love how the color turned out! Gave a fresh, white washed look to the beautiful furniture!

Initial Review Very fast

Refinishing, Pickling the Kitchen Cabinets. Solid White Oak Cabinets needed some TLC, White Pickling was our first choice, but that means a lot of stripping, scraping the varnish, repairing, patching, and sanding. Minwax is and always been my goto product, for premixed formula. The instructions on the label did not work for my refinishing, but I did finally get the results I was looking for. Use good quality pro brushes and keep them clean and dip the brush no farther than 1/4 inch into the Minwax. In my final technique, Fig 1. After sanding, lightly damping the surface and now the surface is ready to be stained. Fig 2. applied stain evenly with the grain let dry about 60 seconds. Fig 3. Strike off with light stain water mix to give a good cover. Fig 4. Allow to dry for at least 1 hour for the stain to draw into the wood. Fig 5. Brushed on last coat with the grain allowed to dry overnight. For the topcoat I applied 1 coats of Clear Polycrylic allow drying 4 hours then 200 grit sandpaper and apply second coat, allow to dry 4 hours. I applied a total 3 coats of Polycrylic.

Cannot love enough

We have used this a ton of times and every time I am amazed at the ease of use. Looks great on every project I’ve used it on.

Used it on brushed paint

It definitely gives a tint however I believe there is a learning curve on how much to dilute. Using brush is very tricky in order to get even coverage on perpendicular joints. I feel like sprayer would be better. It seals the surface so not many options to repaint on top of it.

Great for diy

Just Redid a table that was pretty old and wanted it to make it unique and new looking and I was able to achieve it using this color wash. I used stain on top of it and I loved the outcome.

Dont follow can instructions!

This stain drys really fast. The instruction state to leave on no longer than 3 minutes then wipe off with a rag. There is no wiping even after 30 seconds or so. do not use a rag or you will have a very splotchy finish even after using the pre stain conditioner. The best method is to apply as lightly/evenly as possible using a foam brush applicator. Ensure brush strokes are even and with the grain. When you are happy with the application and look let it dry for 30-60 minutes. Apply a second coat in the same manner to even out the look. Using this method my unfinished beech cabinets turned out really nice.

Opened jar

The jar was cracked when it arrived so it was some spill. Thankfully it came wrapped in plastic. Using this product was probably one of the hardest thing I’ve ever done! It was extremely hard to get it even with one coat. I ended up having to sand my whole kitchen counter back to original wood again because it did not look good. The technique is really difficult but if you know what you’re doing I’m sure it’s great. Next time, I need to look into a different product that’s easier to use.

Love it!

Love the product! Shipping however cost $2 more than the product but we couldn't find it locally so we had no choice! We have received several compliments on the finished items. Used one coat (dries very quickly so you have to work fast) and we got the results we wanted, a white coating that allows wood knots & grain to show. Wish I could post a picture!
