Looks much better in the living room.
This wooden crate is more refined looking than the typical wire dog crate.

Great flexibility and good looks!
Love the flexibility and furniture like look of this crate! It's so easy to put together it's ridiculous. Just unfold it and slip the front door hinges on, and it's assembled. Then you just place the top and bottom (which is just a tray) on and you've got yourself a beautiful crate that looks like a piece of furniture. When my boxer was a puppy, we would take the top off and use it as a play pen, and she seemed happier in there because I could put it in the room where I was working. When our boxer was 8 weeks old (and 8lbs), we put a tiny pillow in the back and puppy pads in the front. It worked out well - she had a place to play, or to go if needed and a place to nap. She used the pads on a few occasions when she was really little, but never on her pillow. It worked out well. As she got potty trained and much bigger, we swapped the smaller pillow out for a full size pillow. Our only dilemma was trying to figure out what size pillow to get with this. We ended up getting lucky with the Midwest Quiet Time Pet Bed Deluxe Pillow. As I mentioned - it's been a year since we purchased the crate, and 8 months or more for the full sized pillow. Check the measurements for the large or XL vs the measurements on this crate. One will fit it like a glove (XL?). In fact - she is still using that pillow in her crate after all that time being used and washed. After she became trustworthy at home without needing to be crated, we took the front door hinges off of it and she now uses it on her own. We thought about taking it down for awhile, but since she still uses it so often, we don't dare. She seems to feel safe in there, especially without the front door. It's "her house" if you will. This crate is as easy to clean as any other crate. I use wood/furniture cleaner on the top, throw the pillow in the wash, and wipe down the bars/tray occasionally with paper towels, all purpose cleaners. Fortunately, our girl likes her areas clean. So, the only messes she makes is chewing up her toys outside of her little house. For those wondering - the bars are close enough together to prevent even the smallest of animals from getting in/out of the bars. We had a friend with a kitten come stay with us while our boxer was a puppy. We were afraid our puppy would chase their kitten but the 2 couldn't get to each other. Nor did we need worry anyway. We bought this crate nearly a year ago, and it still looks brand new. We still get compliments on how sharp it looks. We've debated moving it out of our living room, but we use the top for a lamp stand, a few decor items and it's in a corner so.... perhaps if she stops using it we'll move it, but until then - we want our girl as comfy as we are. A great play pen, and crate for your puppy and as they become an adult - a beautiful safe house of their very own! Well worth the few extra bucks! We are so happy with this crate! I would never consider another brand. And if our little girl could talk - I'm sure she'd second the motion!

Perfect for our Sheepadoodles!
We have 2 Sheepadoodle dogs in our family, each has their own kennel. We love that these don’t look like a typical wire cage. Our dogs are not aggressive or anything- so I can see how others have rated this poorly if they have dogs that are. It’s fairly easy to move if you did assemble it, for cleaning or re arranging furniture. The hinges on ours have been replaced (by us) with brass piano style hinges from the hardware store- the ones that come with it are insufficient for long term use. It’s no big deal though / as overall you get lots of bang for your buck. I also agree that there should be double latch on the large size kennels. One on top works for us .. but a dog eager to escape could quickly breach the one it comes with- simply by pushing their weight against the bottom of the access door. If your dog is an escape artist/this probably is not the kennel of choice. The top corner blocks fell off ours - but we simply re-glued them with good quality wood glue and clamps. Overall - we are satisfied & would buy again. Just know that in time.. you’ll probably be needing to enhance the design / construction shortcuts that were taken in construction (probably to keep the costs down.) we paid full price - and now a year later it’s 42% off- that’s quite upsetting too. All said / we are happy and do not regret our decision to buy / use these in our home. ????????

Great lookling but lots of scratches on wood
I love this pen for its size and appearance. If it was unscratched, I would LOVE it. Two main areas of damage: the very heavy top clearly has machine scratches - parallel lines going completely from left to right across the top - 3-5 or more, about 3/4" apart. The other area is a small location on the front of the door and the worst is located right next to the latch on the wood FRAME surrounding the door - a DEEP, LONG scratch. Contacted company and sent pics via email (bec. couldn't get to speak to anyone via phone) and blanket response was to "contact Amazon" since that's where "you purchased it from". They weren't interested at all. Several phone calls to Amazon and I got "resolution" - as best they could because Merry Pet no longer has stock of these. I wanted to exchange it for a duplicate or just have the two bad pieces re-sent but clearly couldn't, under the circumstances. My advice? It's a crap shoot since I see others have had damage also upon unwrapping. It's a great pen, but not for a big, burly dog, me thinks - or perhaps not for an aggressive dog. My dog took to it immediately and I was shocked about that. She's a 4 yo. - 15# half-pom/half mystery meat and a pretty mild dog. She had always slept in the white, plastic pen - 3' X 3' but had to be dragged into it for bedtime. For some reason, after the first night, she walks in this one voluntarily. It's a little oversized for her (certainly in height) but I felt she was very used to a previously big one. I have, as you can see in the one pic, a large bed for her (which she used in orig. plastic-one during cold months) in the rear and she still uses it now. I only wish this company had good quality control and a concern for their customers - they don't on both fronts.

Sz M - Can be a great crate if taken care of.
I like this crate a lot. I got it for my mini dachshund puppy and she likes it a lot. She is 2 pounds right now but I believe this crate will last well even when she’s an adult. It does get scratched up relatively easily but if you take good care of it then you can avoid scratches for the most part. Works well as a gate without the table top on as well. Table top is sturdier than I thought it would be. Probably not suitable for more than 40 pounds on top of the table. The medium size crate is suitable for small to smaller medium sized breeds probably up to 25 pounds. There are some gaps between the walls of the crate and the bottom piece so it can move around but I put a piece of rolled up fabric on the front and right side and it keeps the bottom in place and keeps my pup from getting her foot caught in the gap.

Great piece of furniture
Use this as a pet bed for my pooch who has always slept in a crate. love the fact it has a table top - it looks like just another piece of furniture in the lounge and the dog loves it too!

This dog crate is both beautiful and functional
This dog crate is both beautiful and functional. It makes a nice addition to our kitchen, giving us some extra counter space, and also provides a safe and secure spot for our German Shepherd puppy. We bought the large size because our dog is expected to grow to about 90lbs. The size is currently perfect for her, even without a crate divider (which I had thought we'd need). The crate comes with a plastic removable floor, which makes clean-up easy---though it is a little awkward to remove. However, overall, we are very happy with this product and would highly recommend it.

Poor quality gate
I've had this furniture crate for a month and it is already damaged. I use it to crate my 5 month old golden pup while I'm away at work for a few hours. Within one month of having it and I have used it for a total of 3 weeks and not even everyday. More like 3-4 times a week as I only work part time. She has managed to perhaps paw at the gate and destroyed it. This is a huge expense for a crate and I honestly expected it to be sturdier than this especially at the gate!!! I am very disappointed to say the least! I don't know who I can go to to have the gate repaired or completely redone for something more resistant! Very unsafe! Will never recommend!

Beautiful piece of furniture
Beautiful piece. Our two dogs figured out how to get out of it (push the top up with their heads). We use it when we need to lock them up for a short period of time only and use the actual steel kennel for extended periods.
