Good Files

Not for steel

These files are NOT for steel, which is not mentioned in the description. I tried to file the head off of a box nail with the mill ile that was sticking up and it has dulled teeth and scars on that side now. I would not waste my money on these files again. I tried to save a couple of bucks over the Cresent Nicholson coparible set and regret it. I made sure to thougholy read the description so as to not get bit like this but, live and learn. For anything other than steel, these are excellent files but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a file.

was missing one of the round files, other then that its for sure a good deal for the cost.

Really coarse; but good quality for the price.

These are really coarse. They are good for roughing out a lot of material. I wish I could find the same thing in "medium" and "fine" for finishing up. I bought a set of diamond files in "fine" but they clog too easily in wood. As another reviewer said, it would be nice if they had more teeth on the edges.

Poor finish

While these rifflers are a good size and shape. They really disappointed me. The teeth are long, very narrow, too few and arranged in straight rows. So when used the leave deep grooves instead of evenly removing material as one would expect a rasp to do. To be clear, I am aware a rasp typically leaves a rough surface that requires additional sanding to obtain a smooth finish. These rasps leave grooves. I gave two stars (instead of just one) because they were promptly delivered. Service was good, the rasps I do not like.

nice set of files

I'm using these to finish parts of flint locks and to shape very small carving chisels. Got them on sale on Amazon. I have not used all of them but am very satisfied with the ones I have used. I appreciate the plastic pouch they come in for its ability to protect the cutting edges of the file teeth from each other. That said, it has a most irritating snap closure. I wish it were more convenient. Still the variety of files make all sorts of small scale jobs possible.

A little hard to get a start with the first bite sometimes, but they can really get in the small areas

Fragile

Work great, but very fragile. Broke two of them first use. Not for even remotely aggressive removal of material.
