Just what I was looking for BUT.....
This thing is massive, so you won’t be turning eggs or flipping pancakes with it. But that’s not why I bought it. I specifically bought it for working with large cuts of meat on my Grill and Smoker. It's a great substitute for the large spatula offered by Treager. Which also happens to be one third more expensive. My one complaint... is the Hell's Handle itself. I own a number of other items from the Mercer Hell's Handle product line. I love them all, but have the same gripe about each. The material the Hell's Handle is made of. It's "HARD" plastic. Yes it's heat resistant to 500 degrees, which is a plus. But it's just plane "HARD" to the touch. Each time I go to pick up one of my Hell's Handle products. I get the same disappointing sensation. Even after owning them for as long as I have. I keep expecting there to be some kind of rubberized grippy sensation. But then the disappointment sets in. When again and again, all I feel is just plain hard plastic. That being said. I knew going in how the handle material would feel. But this handle is the worst of all the Hell's Handle products I own. The Mercer design folks need to take some refresher courses in ergonomics. The handle is a bit wide for my hands but nicely rounded on the sides. It’s also flatter on the top and bottom. Which makes if feel a somewhat awkward in my hand. At least, the way I "instinctively" want to grip the Spatula. Because the handle is wide and more flat on the top and bottom. It forces me to turn my hand slightly. So the line from the heel of my hand to the thumb. Runs strait down the center line of the spatula. Which does work when lifting or turning a large cut of meat. It just feels un-natural to hold it that way. Also, there's no hole in the handle. To allow it to be hung on the side of the Grill or Smoker, along with my other cooking utensils. Other than the handle issue. All-in-all, I think it's a great back yard BBQ tool. The balance is such. You can let go of spatula, with nothing resting on it, and the handle doesn't rock back and make contact with the hot cooking surface. It's stiff enough for making Smash Burgers. So now, a separate tool just for that purpose is no longer needed. But that also makes it strong enough. To easily pick up and move around large cuts of meat on the Grill or Smoker.

Simply the best fish spatula!
I love this spatula. I have been using it for a few years, but it belonged to my son, who now moved out of the house and took the spatula with him (he loves it too!). So, without hesitation or delay, I ordered a replacement. It is exactly the same one I have been using for years, so I know it well. It works perfectly and is super easy to clean with or without a dishwasher. It has just the perfect amount of spring to it an the size and shape are also just right. Simple item, but what a joy when it's just right!

This fish spatula would be great for a BIG commercial range, but it was way to big for this home cook with a normal sized range. Had to return it.

Good assembly
I make smash burgers with this thing for my family of 4 and it has held up great. No bending or loose handle. Highly recommended.

Great spatula, lack of hole is easy to remedy
It is a great addition to my griddle tools. Well made and feels good in the hand. You can easily drill a hole in the handle if you need one, the blade is not full tang - my magnet says it is more like 3/4 tang so go ahead and drill anywhere above the logo and you will be fine.

It is an essential tool.
I decided to buy this spatula after completing a Master Class with Tom Keller. I can't believe I have been cooking this long without the benefit of this type of spatula. It is extremely convenient and the right tool for many proteins. I highly recommend this for the home cook that want to take their craft to the next level.

The 5x4 is PERFECT! .... Highly Recommend
I purchased three (3) other hamburger flippers trying to find something cheaper than this Mercer Hell's Handle Turner/Spatula and ended up sending them all back and then biting the bullet and paying $33.71 for this 5x4 flipper. ••• PERFECT SIZE ••• The 5x4 is the perfect size turner/flipper/spatula for burners, chicken breasts and fish fillets. The 6x5 is too big! ••• Heavy Duty ••• This Mercer Culinary flipper is HEAVY DUTY and built to last. The spatula is solid and sturdy, it's doesn't flex or bend and is perfect for smashing or flatting burger patties. I've tried three others and 2 out of the 3 others flexed way too much ... the one that was solid had a poor wooden handle. ••• Handle ••• One of the main reasons I choose to pay more and buy this burger flipper was because of the handle. I did find another Heavy Duty burner flipper that was half the price and really sturdy and solid but the handle was made of wood and poorly finished and attached. This Mercer Culinary flipper is built to last. The handle is a heat resistant, molded silicone rubber compound that won't shrink, swell, chip, splinter or degrade. The handle is smooth throughout and there are no rivets to protrude or loosen like the other spatula. ••• Recommendation ••• I highly recommend this Mercer Culinary flipper and would suggest the 5x4 size. YES this flipper is expensive however it's built to last and if you take care of it, it will last a lifetime! FYI: If you want a good burger flipper/smasher and just can't justify the $33.71 expense of this one ... I would suggest you take a look at the Outset Heavy Duty Grill Spatula also here on Amazon. It is only $18.99 and the metal flipper part is also heavy duty and made well. I personally didn't like the wooden handle but if that doesn't bother you it's a great, lower cost option. A necessary tool for the kitchen
This is a must have in any kitchen, can’t believe I never had one of these before. This spatula is excellent and isn’t necessarily just for fish, although deffo works well for fish as it’s thin and sharp enough to easily get into the fish and not just scoop it up but also to scrape any fish skin left on the pan (salmon). My only regret is that I opted for the short version thinking it would be long enough, but wish I purchased the longer one. The short one still works fine though. Decent handle, lightweight and excellent quality. Would highly recommend. Mercer seems like a really good brand, also have one of their chefs knives which is really good. Will probably purchase more stuff from this brand as it’s decent quality, esp since they’re NSF certified.
