A luxury item that's become a necessity
Several family members who have these, including me, absolutely love this item. It's become something we don't want to do without--especially in the cold, northern winters. It's also wonderful for a lower level bedroom, as those beds can hold allot of chill if you're not always heating the lower level. Also great if you like to sleep in a cold room but like your body to be warm and cozy. If you're concerned about sleeping on electric wires, just simply warm the bed first before crawling into it and then turn it off once you climb in. I usually sleep with me on L or 2.

No more arteritis pain
Perfect for me, should had purchased sooner. I keep my bedroom cool, set the temperature on 3, love to step into a warmed-up bed, I do unplug it overnight, probably keep it plugged in, in the wintertime.

This model has one huge advantage
I have used a Sunbeam electric mattress pad for nearly 20 years. I like my room chilly and my bed warm. This purchase replaced a 10 year old model that still functions perfectly, but the top cover is polyester blend so extremely thin that the wires are visible (and can be felt) even through my flannel sheets. I hesitate to sound straight out of "the princess and the pea", but it was not ideal. This is the first time I have seen the " Luxury " version. What an improvement! $70-ish for this square quilted COTTON covered version. The basic poly- cotton one was around $55. Both function precisely the same. Comfort level is certainly worth the price differential. To ensure you are choosing the better one, check fabric content, and look for square quilting one the cotton one. There is a difference in shipping weight too (3.45 lbs vs 4.14lbs for poly vs cotton). The descriptions are otherwise nearly identical. Sleep well!

Preheat setting is nice, as it then holds the level on which you set the heat after heating up more quickly. Did not seem to have much (if any) synthetic fibers which cause more static. I do agree that the controller plug needs to be "dropped" down to the side of the mattress, not sit on top. So I bought a Twin size to use sideways on a queen since it appears there are no "graduated" style pads any more (as was my Restwarmer from 20 years ago). I put it sideways with the connection at the side of the mattress, and it covers half the mattress. After all, few people need their pillows heated! I got mine after a price drop, so I'm thrilled!

Difficult to read control is a drawback
I've only had this mattress pad for a week, but think a couple of drawbacks might be useful for people to know. The display on the control is very difficult to read both in daylight and at night; the backlight on it is very weak. The control is light weight, perhaps a bit flimsily built. I've been using Biddleford electric mattress pads for many years. Their controls are easier to read and seem to be more sturdily built. So far I'm quite satisfied with how well the Sunbeam pad heats up quickly and the heat is evenly distributed. Contrary to what some reviewers say, the wires are somewhat detectable, but not uncomfortable. Remains to be seen how durable the Sunbeam is. That's the reason I decided to give Sunbeam a try, the Biddleford mattress pads work very well until they stop working. I've never had one last as long as their 5 year warantee; my most recent one lasted only 1.75 years. Biddleford offered to replace it for free, but shipping to them was so expensive, it wasn't worth it.

Excellent pad with two glaring issues
Two negatives balance out everything that I like about this heated mattress pad: 1) It doesn't heat all the way down to foot of the bed (the heating element stops a few noticeable inches before the end of the mattress). 2) The power and control cable plugs in to a point that is right in the center of where a normal-sized person would put their feet when sleeping on this twin-sized mattress pad. It makes for a very large and noticeable hard-edged lump in exactly the wrong place. They should have had it over the edge of the bed instead of on the top where people actually lay. Other than the two issues I mentioned above, the pad works perfectly. There is a Pre-Heat (PH) setting that makes the bed absolutely toasty. I set it to PH a few minutes before going to bed, and then turn it down to 1 or 2 and I'm comfortable for the night no matter how cold it gets (except for my feet - see issue #1 above).
