Great coffee maker with a few UX issues
We just finished our first box of filters so we have now made 100 pots of coffee since we purchased this maker. We love it but we can't give it 5 stars. Makes a great pot of coffee, looks great and gives a great sense of being well built. However it has 2 UX/design flaws-no resettable timer and the removable water tank is useless. More on these in a bit. Pros: - great tasting coffee every time - adjustable warmer plate timer (up to 4 hours) - adjustable warmer heat settings. This allows us to set the temp to the lowest and still have a decent cup at the 4 hour mark. - good looking machine that gives off a vibe of high quality. Cons: - no resetting the coffee pot timeout. This actually a big deal for many folks who are slow drinkers. Sometimes you just need that extra half hour to finish off the pot. Not with this maker. In order to reset the warmer timeout you must add water to the tank. Which means the maker will brew that water over the cold and old grounds. - Removable water tank is a useless feature. The tank has an overflow hole to make sure you don't overfill a pot which is good. However on a removable water tank when you fill up the tank to the overflow hole what happens when you move from sink to maker? The water sloshes around and pours out the overflow hole. We love the coffee maker and highly recommend it but we can't give it a full 5 stars since those two cons are supposed to be positive features not be pain points. So if you know this going in then you should not be surprised when you run across the 2 design flaws.

But the coffee pot
The coffee pot drips coffee all over the counter when I pour.

Best coffeemaker to date
I’ve had close to 30 coffeemakers in my life so far and this blows them all away. First of all, the design is not only aesthetic, but functional and well-built. The coffee is the hottest I’ve ever had in a home brewer. The versatility of brewing and warmer settings is on par with the better ones but without all of the extra unnecessary buttons. The plastics are exceptionally strong. The water filter holder is awkward and poorly designed requiring you to jam it into the hole. It is junk and not really needed. If you use filtered water like Zero Water as I do, there is no need to ever descale or re-filter water for the purest taste. Again I love everything about this product but recommend users do the following to prevent a host of complaints I’ve read in the reviews: 1) To avoid leaks and spills, hold the lid with one finger and SLOWLY pour. The squared spout should minimize drips. 2) To avoid excessive water buildup and possible under-cabinet damage from the steam vent, buy from Amazon one of many silicone/felt counter protectors. These are awesome for many reasons…they allow the unit to easily glide out from under the cabinet to fill the reservoir. At this point the steam rises in front of the cabinets into the air, not under the cabinet. It’s also easier to fill the coffee in this position. Easily slide the unit back on the pad with one hand after brewing. All coffeemakers have some quirks, even the most expensive. This coffeemaker has more to impress than disappoint.

Overpriced for what you get
This coffee pot was very expensive and with all the electronics. It should be perfect, but it is not. I constantly have to unplug it and reset it because in less than 30 days, it told me that it needed cleaning which is an arduous process. I changed the filter after a month and a week later it showed a sign flashing that it needed a new filter. I could not get that filter sign to go off to save my soul. So again, I had to unplug it, plug it back in and reset all the features. I have a pitcher that I use for water only to fill my old coffee pot. I take it over to put water in the water container go to brew and it says it doesn’t have water because it wasn’t lifted off the container to do it. So now I have to hit brew with an empty chamber And it tells me to fill up with water so then I take it out go to the sink fill it up with water come back put it down into the socket and the fill water light finally goes off. It’s just a hassle. Why can’t the coffee pot just make coffee with all these extra buttons. Anyway it just was not what I thought it was. I thought I could fill the chamber brew 1 to 4 cups and Call it good but it doesn’t. if you have 10 cups of water in it, it’s gonna make 10 cups of coffee.

Can't turn warmer back on after it turns off
The coffee maker makes a nice hot pot of coffee. It also has an included scoop for measuring coffee, which I like better than I thought I would. I see this coffee maker has 2 flaws. 1) Once the warmer times out, you can't turn it back on. 2) The lid on the water tank is removable. I had the previous model of the coffee maker and loved it. On the old model the warmer could be turned back on and you didn't need to bother with removing and replacing the water lid. Not sure why they changed a good things.

Pot leaks when pouring
I started off loving this coffee maker. Great look and quality. Love the taste of the coffee. Nicely programmable. However pot is listed as leakproof. Not true it leaks or dribbles every time. I have taken to pouring only over the sink. I was going to order a second one but not now. I have never had this happen with any other coffee maker. It needs a new design. Buyers should be sent a replacement non dribbling pot.

Excellent coffee machine but horrible caraffe!
The coffee machine is excellent overall, here are the pros and cons: Pros: Makes good coffee Looks sleek on the counter Removable filter basket with handle Cone style filter Easily programmable Removable water tank with filter option (although the filtering is questionable) Brews quickly and hot You can control the time out time for keeping warm and the temperature You have different settings for brewing (1-4 cup, classic, bold, robust) It makes good small batches of coffee Quiet Beeps when done (not too annoying) Has a built in spoon to load the coffee (1 scoop per two cups) It has steam vents that are on the top of the machine, I like this because it let's the steam actually escape in a specific spot but it can damage your cabinets. I taped a square patch of aluminum foil under my cabinet so that the steam wets that and not my cabinet. (see photo) Cons: Slightly taller than expected , it is actually 14.25" tall The carafe is absolute junk, you have to be extra careful when pouring and you still will likely spill on your counter. You cannot get all the coffee or water out because there is a type of plastic ledge inside the carafe. It feels very cheap, I'm afraid when washing it that I will accidentally drop it in my sink and crack it.... I am very happy with the machine so far (about 3 weeks ownership) I will update if anything changes!

Wow! Perfect!
I’m very surprised by this coffee maker, and in a super good way. Let me outline the key important reasons and features: 1. 1350 watt boiler element…this is so important for proper brewing temperature and speed. The gold-cup SCA benchmark brewer, the Technivorm Moccamaster, has a 1400 watt boiler element. 2. Cone filter, #4. This is the preferred filter style of coffee snobs like me lol, and it’s the same filter used in my Technivorm. Flat bottom basket style is ok…but it delivers a different flavor profile…not as rich imho 3. Full dispersion brew head, with 100% perfect grounds saturation! Even the Technivorm struggles here…and it’s best to give the grounds a stir about half way through. No such action needed here on this HB Pro! 4. Temperature. I took readings and found it hit 195-205f, and it happened very quickly and maintained throughout. This is also Technivorm territory! 5. Time. An equally comparable “Technivorm full pot” of 1.25L took 7 minutes and 10 seconds on the HB Pro…where the Technivorm did it in 6 minutes and 15 seconds. I’d say the HB Pro is a smidge slower because it’s 50 watts less powerful. See how important the wattage rating is on coffee maker? 6. Adjustable hot plate (H/M/L) for temperature and time to stay on, in 10 min increments up to 2 hours. Important so you don’t scorch the coffee. Glass carafe Technivorm models also have a 2 setting hot plate Other notable bonus features: -removable water tank with handle that has measurements visible on left and right sides, and water filter -2 tablespoon coffee scoop that stores neatly on top -programmable auto-on; a subtle beep sounds as soon as the brew cycle stops -well placed vents, on top just between the tank and coffee scoop -brew basket is spring loaded and swings out; there’s also a nice grab handle on the cone filter holder -brew strength settings from Classic, Bold, Robust (assuming this slows the brew cycle by integrating pauses in the water flow) -cord storage -carafe has a hinged lid and does not drip -quiet brewing, just like the Technivorm…because it’s mostly a continuous boil/flow of water. Very little gurgling. It does it once right at the start when the water first rises to the brew head, and again during the last 20 seconds of the brew cycle. This coffee maker is a huge win! Makes an equal cuppa to my beloved Technivorm, which is all due to the first 5 key points I outlined above. Now, if Hamilton Beach offered this exact machine with a well designed thermal carafe…it would be pure perfection!

Carafe broken on arrival
This coffee maker was exactly what I was looking for in terms of features. However can't tell you how it works as the carafe was cracked on arrival. I contacted hamilton beach about it and in days they acknowledged my request and indicated they would replace it free of charge with the caveat of having to wait 14 days for it to arrive. My hope now is that a glass carafe mailed by itself makes it to me unbroken.
