Not for Macaws

I purchased these for our macaws, They are sold stating they are for them so I purchased 2 which I prefer glass and stainless steel stuff. Within a very short time they were bent and the ball would not move. I thought that maybe I got the wrong ones and called the company. The woman I spoke with stated that they use to make a stronger stem but no longer have them. I explained that my birds were bending them but she offered no solutions. She said they have stopped making the thicker ones and really didn't seem to care. What a shame, I am sure it didn't cost that much more for such a short piece of metal. Very disappointed! You would think constructive criticism people would appreciate. There are plastic ones out there but I have not found any other glass ones.

great bottle, very small drip

I ordered two. the box came UPS half opened. labeled GLASS and sounded like the two bottles i ordered were shattered. turned out to be the screws hitting the metal, thankfully nothing broken or missing. i see why it cost so much, very good quality all metal. the rubber is decent quality to hold a seal. the instructions can be confusing for those who dont realize you need to pinch the side bracket to move it up. many may think its upside down and install it wrong. hard to explain in instructions so i cant blame them. just look at pics and make sure the wire points down when closed. i put a picture of the bracket to squeeze and lift when removing the bottle. both my birds liked it asap and used it within minutes of install. hopefully my pics help someone. both bottles ( medium 16 oz ) leak but its like 1 drop every few min if so. i filled it to the top, i also relieved pressure with a fork like some said to build some pressure but nothing worked. other than the drip it was perfect. I would still order it even knowing i get a drip here and there. although hopefully they package it better next time.

Goodness, these are AWESOME!

I so wish I would have gotten them long ago! Mine are used for birds. (Society Finch) They save me from opening the cage and risking my birds getting out (to our four awaiting cats). This, alone, is an awesome feature. Heavy duty construction and material. I don't think a person could ask for better. I am completely satisfied with them and they make my job of watering SO much easier. The last (silo type) waterers I had would get stuck and my birds wouldn't have anything to drink in the trough. They were made of plastic (another thing I did NOT like) and were very difficult to wash and keep clean. (Seed hulls were always in the drinking trough.) With these my birds always have water. And it's clean! No "bacteria soup". (Please let me mention here, if you change them out every other day (like I do), or a couple of times a week, once a week, check the ball each morning on the spicket when you're taking care of them. Simply roll your finger across the end where the ball is. To ensure that it is where it's supposed to be. If your finger is wet, it's doing it's job. It takes only a second.) Others mentioned the work in attaching them to the cage. And that is so. (All the hardware is to keep bottle safely, and firmly, in place.) I had my 16 yr. old son help me. He, holding the nut with a crescent wrench on the inside of the cage, and I, using a flat head screwdriver on the outside. (Those are the only tools needed.) Having two people made this little job SO much easier. (I can't imagine doing it by myself. I don't think I would have been able to.) This set up DOESN'T take long at all. Very easy, simple instructions...and you're done. Wash the bottle/spicket, fill up, pop in the rubber stopper, and you're ready for use. When needing to change the water, you simply push up the little metal bracket holding the bottle at the top (shown in picture) and pull out the bottle. Very easy and handy! These are easy to clean with a bottle brush. And a nice WIDE mouth to the heavy duty glass bottle makes cleaning a cinch. WONDERFUL! (Bottle can also be put in the dishwasher if you want. I hated to try it for fear that the painted on red "LIXIT" word would be compromised and it wouldn't look new. I'm picky!) These (I bought several), are an excellent product and I simply couldn't be happier with them. Yep! I wish I would have been able to get them LONG ago.

Well made - Sturdy - Hard to put together - Bad Instructions

This is a preliminary review and it's only about assembly and first impressions. It is very sturdy - metal hardware, a thick glass water holder, and heavy-duty plug. The holder is strong and holds the bottle tight. It's difficult to put together and to remove the bottle from the holder. Putting it together: It has a bunch of pieces, screws, and nuts. One part took two people. And it has bad instructions. We are usually pretty good at this kind of project, but it took us 30-40 minutes.. Here's a tip: The instruction sheet (photo #1) has a drawing of the pieces showing THE WRONG WAY to put them together. I drew a red arrow pointing at the part that is upside down on their drawing. You have to read the fine print to figure out the drawing is wrong. (In photo #1, read the instructions inside the red box.) The locking bracket fits over the bottle at the top to hold it in. It is supposed to hang down when the water bottle isn't attached, not stand straight up. Picture #2 shows the bottle assembled correctly. It is hard to take the bottle out. Photo #3 shows how to do it. You need two hands, one to squeeze the locking bracket wire and one to lift the wire off the bottle. You don't have to squeeze the bottle to put it back in. I'll update this review later.

Good for small dogs and yes, cats too!

Bought this for our Maltese as her water bowl would get dirty after one day. With this she has clean water all the time, and we only have to refill it once a week. Our cat has a water fountain which she used to love drinking from, but now she won't use it anymore. She saw our dog using it, and taught her self how to use it. Kinda hilarious seeing her use it for this first little while as she would lick it too hard, and her tough would get caught on the lip. She's fine now, no more messy water bowls. Since this is meant to be mounted on a cage, I made a simple walnut wood stand for it only using some of the supplied parts. did an inset with a router to catch any drips. Doesn't drip when it's static, just due to messy animals. The size is good, not sure how much a larger dog would drink (ours is 6.5 pounds, and the cat weighs the same).

Works as advertised

Mounts on a wall. Clip that allows removal of bottle is hard to use. There must be a better way. Breeder trains all their puppies to use this thisrather than a bowel. Cleaner plus keeps dogs face dry. Price is shockingly high

The best water bottle for medium/larger birds.

I've tried a few water bottles in the past and my cockatoos destroyed them. Plastic bottles are quickly chewed through regardless of shape/size. Spring loaded metal tips don't last either. This is a gravity based unit that has a metal tube with metal balls inside with a heavy glass bottle. Nothing to break unless you drop them. That said, I wash mine in a metal laundry sink and I have dropped them in the sink a few times but no breakage yet they hold up well. I use two of them. One is over 15 years old. The other one is a couple of weeks old.

Disappointed - wrong size and can’t return it
