I don't know why I avoided this purchase for so long!!!
The gallons per minute is ultimately what has kept me from purchasing one of these for years. It wasn't until my primary sump failed during a thunderstorm that I quickly realized bailing by hand using a bucket was no way to even come close to keeping up in the event of a pump failure in a situation like that. I then resorted to a battery powered backup pump kit from a well known hardware store which was great as it came with a 3 year warranty! But I soon realized just one year and 3 months later the backup pump is not made the same as the primary and the prop for the pump sits very flush with the bottom of the unit, which inevitably will corrode over time, really making the warranty useless in my eyes. After all, what good is a backup pump that doesn't work if it isn't used for a year? In steps this Liberty Sump Jet! I do know how to plumb with copper well, but this was my first time with pex tubing. As long as the pex tubing is cut straight, sharkbite quick connectors are NO PROBLEM at all! I ran a new cold water line from the 3/4" section in my basement over to the corner where my sump pit is and ran it down the wall with a 90 degree elbow and tee'd that off to a spigot so I can fill my pit for testing with city water at any time. (A great thinking-ahead-feature on my part as I've had so many failures over the years!) at the lower end near the floor I sweat'd on a copper barb for the pex fittings from there into the sump water line inlet. Ultimately for me, my biggest obstacle was fitting the sump jet into my pit itself, just underneath my Radon Air Tight Sump Dome I had purchase for radon mitigation. I ended up using the convenient 4 holes in the sump jet with some longer threaded bolts with lock washers and nuts on the bottom side. I cut a small slice of 3" PVC to use as a support spacer between the top of the sump jet and the bottom of the sump lid, so I could keep the sump jet just a little bit lower and not entirely flush on the bottom of my sump dome lid for my needs. This was great! Hidden out of sight. I followed the instructions and installed a reliable double backflow prevention valve to keep the sump water from back flowing into our home water supply. The pex quick connect was perfect on the sump jet for accepting the blue pex tubing and I liked it so much I got another to use in case I ever need to remove the water feed from the sump jet for any sump pump maintenance. I did NOT install just a "Y" PVC adapter as I didn't want any water flow force from my primary sump pump to be able to back feed to the sump jet which I feel could slow down it's efficiency. Again, this was done according to the instructions. A full separate discharge line out the back of my home. I just have 2 sump hoses leaving my home now instead of one and they are next to each other. Slowly turning on the shutoff valve that I installed within 6 feet of the sump jet is handy and allowed me to allow water to flow to the sump jet while removing as much air as I could before any testing as the company suggests. I only heard one short air pocket/thunk noise as I filled the sump pit for a full test. Surprisingly it didn't take long at all to lower the level which will keep my basement dry for many years to come! Feels very solid in construction and runs quiet itself, although I can hear the water itself running through the copper plumbing. I have not yet installed a water hammer as suggested, but plan to do as soon as I am able to. Now time will tell, but my nerves are taking a much needed rest already, which I cannot put a price on. Thanks so much for a great quality product!

Installed and simulated a power outage can be fun.
First off, this is the first time I have ever been so impressed with a product that I am writing a review about it. My wife and I have lived in our house for the past four years and have had the power go out for longer than four hours three times. I was either at work or she was sleeping and the sump pump almost flooded our newly finished basement every time. So I went looking for a backup unit. I do not trust batteries for a backup because a friend has gotten a dead cell on their backup system and their basement flooded. With traveling and wanting to get the best possible choice that will protect our home we opted for the water powered backup pump. My first impression of the liberty pump SJ10 was excellent and thought that the construction was well made. Compared to other water powered back-up pumps you do not need to spend hundreds of dollars, you simply need to find something that works and has quality and time put into the design and construction. I have never worked with PVC before and my first experience has been nothing less than great, I bought the two stage PVC kit from Lowes [in addition to the 90 degree elbows to make the lines look nice (gator bite elbows)] and the addition parts from Home Depot (the 1" x 1" x 3/4" T off the main water line and the shut off valve leading to the water powered pump). The last thing I needed was the 3/4" check valve from shark bite which I bought from Amazon. Now that I had everything the install was quick in my mind total labor time was about 4 hours to install. I first received a quote from a local plumber and they wanted 1200 dollars. To me that was ridiculous and I have two hands and can figure this out and it was by far an easy installations. The one and only warning that I can express with this device is the assembly that attaches the float. This might have been caused by me when I was examining the pump on delivery but there was water leaking around the assembly. After thinking for a minute on how to stop the leaking, I realized that I had some Teflon tape and put a thin line around the threads and reassembled the float to the pump and no more leaking. Anyone that has had issues with this pump needs to remember that it might not be the pump. It might be the installation processes around installing the pump and they need to keep that separate. I am no plumber but I do have common sense and a few of my co-workers have already bought the same exact parts that I have and I will be installing their water power backups over the next three weekends. At a fraction of the cost that a plumber would have charged; after this experience I do believe that plumbers also have a racket going on but that is a completely different topic.

Great product
Great product that was easy to install and has solved the problem of no sump pump when the power is out. The ONLY issue was the pump would not initially shut off. I contacted the company and they walked me through the fix... a simple piece of dirt in the diaphragm that was likely my fault from the installation process... when the instructions say to purge the line before installing, I should have purged the line!

Works fine, not the easiest install
I spent quite a few hours configuring the pipes for this sump pump. First, it's quite a tight fit. My only complaint is that the unit could be a bit more compact. The length of the discharge pipe could be manufactured shorter to give more room to install the pump lower in the pit. Or, the intake pipe and floater switch rod could be lengthened. (I like as little water in my sump pit as possible.) Even as low as I've been able to install it, there is a good 5" above the activation point of the conventional sump pump, before the back-up kicks in. I think this is higher than it could/should be. Second, since this unit is secured to the discharge pipe of the conventional sump pump I found it quite challenging to cut and fit all the pipes. There are essentially three points that need to align nearly perfectly: the discharge pipe of the back-up pump to the main discharge line, the mounting point of the back-up pump with the conventional sump pump discharge pipe, and the copper supply line. There isn't a lot of room for error. And, since the water supply uses a SharkBite fitting you need room to maneuver it into place. That's difficult with so many ridged connections. After having done this and now understanding the difficulties, I would highly recommend using flexible PEX tubing instead of copper for the water connection. This will make installation infinitely easier. Also, if you use ABS pipe like I did, you'll need to use ABS/PVC transition cement to connect it to the PVC of the sump pump. Finally, make sure you add a rubber coupling to the conventional sump pump discharge because you'll want to replace that pump some day and you won't want to cut the whole mess out to do it. All this said, the pump works just like it's supposed to. And, it's rather quiet to boot. Great peace of mind.

It works pumps out water fast.
Had a battery emergency unit dam battery died luckily we came back on the day it did so had enough time to start up the generator. Now with the Liberty Pump installed no more worries unless the water line goes down but that has never happened.

This quality pump has your back(up)... in a good way! One gallon in gets you two gallons out- and only when you really need it!
The second piece of my intended Home Water Security Plan arrived in great time and excellent condition- fully assembled and well packaged to protect it during its journey. The well detailed box itself was instructional and made the ONLY mention that the discharge tube as 1 1/2 (at least that I saw). Liberty met up with its compatriot in protection- a new Zoeller M57 electric sump pump. Same game, different individual offensive strategy- but an essential partnership. The instructions were included and stated in clear language and diagrams. I appreciated the template that was included for cutting out placements for the floating switch and the foot valve tube in the floor mount application. The cautions in the manual were spot-on for safety and practical purposes- such as unplugging the electric pump will sloshing in the sump basin and the advice about the 3/4 inch Sharkbite adapter water feed into the pump (good choice and excellent idea to prevent issues using a heat source, pipe glue, or threaded pipe over-tightening). If you can download the manual before you buy the pump, or look up installation practices on YouTube- see if it's a job for you to undertake or to bring in a plumber- just to be safe. In any event, when you read the reviews about power failures and you having a back up plan, you can always count on municipal water pressure to be there and its always there- and especially/only when you need it.
