Great Rack, Quality Control Not So Much
First off, the Sportrack Pursuit is a great rack and this model is a nice upgrade over my 20 year old version that this replaces. The ability to easily adjust to fit any sedan, SUV, and even the difficult Toyota Prius is a big feature, you will never have to worry if it fits your next vehicle. The way the cradles and straps work to properly secure your bike is flawless and great engineering yet makes it simple. Yes, people with not so strong hands may have some difficulty securing the straps tightly but even loosely secured straps get the job done so maybe the bike wiggles a little more but don't worry. My only issue with this rack is that it came improperly assembled and somehow passed their Quality Control personnel. The angle adjustment component that attaches to the frame and arms must be glued to to the steel tube structure and they were not secured at all. As a mechincal engineer, I realized the problem and used E6000 adhesive to secure them but most people would not figure this out and the rack is almost useless with this manufacturing defect. I am sure this would be resolved by the manufacturer and I still recommend this rack if it happens to you. Also, I am not a believer that the side straps are necessary and in over 20 years using this rack, I never used them and immediately cut them off. If you tighten the vertical straps properly, there is no issue in sway assuming you are not at the Indy 500 taking corners at 180 MPH. Drive sanely and the side straps are totally unnecessary. The rack is made to such a high quality, expect an unlimited lifetime of use and the straps are replaceable even though my 20 year old straps on the old rack are still good. There are more expensive trunk racks and if money is no object I do like the Saris Bones trunk rack but the Sportrack Pursuit gets the job done very efficiently. Also, there are less expensive trunk racks, do not be fooled by those either.

Sturdy - maybe TOO sturdy due to difficult latches
We purchased this to take two big-kids' bikes on a camping trip 90 miles away, attached on the back side of our 2013 Kia Sorento. The bike rack fits fine onto the vehicle, no problems there; and was very secure - we had no worries at all about the bikes wobbling or coming loose. The only thing we didn't like was the difficulty of using the latches to secure the bikes to the bike rack once installed. We pictured something similar to a large, clasp-like zip tie, or a locking clasp. This is not what this product offers. Instead, it is a heavy-duty matte rubber band with square holes in it, that you wrap around the part of the bike you wish to secure, and attach it by pushing a rubber square knob through one of the holes - similar to how children's sandals have multiple holes on the strap and you can choose the one to use. The problem comes in because the holes are so much smaller than the knob, and the rubber is so heavy duty, that it takes a very strong person with strong hands to be able to pull and stretch the band enough to fit the knob in at an angle. I could not do it myself and it took me holding the knob and my husband pulling on the band with all his might to get the bikes attached. It was very laborious. So - setting up the bike rack, took maybe 20 minutes from assembly to installation... BUT securing two bikes and three points each (so 6 rounds of pulling and securing the rubber straps) took just as long. The company should revisit these straps and find a way to make it more user-friendly.

A little tricky for my bike
First, I must explain that, while I am very handy with assembling things, I have never previously assembled a trunk mount bicycle rack. However, recently my husband and I assembled and began using a hitch-mount rack on his Explorer, this SportRack is to be used on my Subaru Outback. Compared to the hitch-mount rack, this has more moving parts and some straps everywhere, but is by no means difficult to assemble or figure out. Once I determined where I would place it on my car, the rest was a no-brainier, at least until It came to time to place the bicycle on the rack. Unlike the hitch-mount rack, this has one simple rubber cradle on one arm of the rack, a plastic and rubber hinged cradle on the other arm. I had to find a view a YouTube video to confirm that the hinged piece goes on the seat side, providing the ability to secure both the top bar and the seat post with straps. Maybe this isn't confusing to others, but I felt better to be able to see this in the video. This isn't addressed anywhere in the instructions. Next, when applying the straps, the pegs on the hitch-mount rack where the rubber straps are attached are a firm plastic, so it is easy to attach them. On this rack, these pegs are an extension of the soft rubber cradles. I found it to be a battle to try to attach a rubber strap to a flexible rubber peg. Instead of pulling on, the peg just moved and compressed, making the process unnecessarily difficult and time consuming. The style of my Diamondback bike doesn't allow much clearance for it to be mounted. While it has to be slowly worked over the rubber cradles, the troublesome rubber pegs actually helped in this situation since I could just wiggle the bike over the pegs and they popped back into place. My husband's bike had the same problem. Perhaps if the arms were slightly closer together, it wouldn't be so difficult. Still, after reading a ton of reviews to make the decision to purchase this, I realize that this is one of the better ones. Maybe the things that I found problematic were unavoidable. I have only mounted one bicycle since my husbands rack & car will be used when we ride together, but it does hold the bike very securely. All in all, it may take me a bit longer to mount the bicycles, but once on, this rack works well. The ability to travel with my bike makes this all very worthwhile. Through the years, I have relied on reviews to make smart purchases and now I'm trying to "pay it forward" by helping others with my reviews. Please let me know how I'm doing with your vote. Thanks!!

Too much work, hard to use
It is not really a useable product. It went on our little Elantra fairly well, but when you put a bike on it, it all goes wrong. There's these hard rubber straps with holes in them and you're supposed to secure it on the other side with a latch that fits in the holes. Problem is you need to be a bodybuilder to actually get the latch in the hole. Never mind trying to do this on 3 bikes. Maybe after a few times it starts to loosen up, but after 1 trip of loading, unloading and then loading again, our fingers were on fire and we almost just left the bikes there to pick up with a truck later. It was soon back in the box and returned.

It doesn't fit my bike
first of all,it was too wide to go through my bike frame as showing in the pic. Then the top piece can't reach to the top of the trunk if I wanted a correct angle. My car is Accord. But I don't think it's a big deal as that would as position on hatchback vehicles. However, the rubber straps were super stiff. They most pulled my nails off. Had to get refund. It might works with road bikes or larger size frames. Mine is medium size.

Pretty good if you follow the instructions correctly
This bike rack is pretty good. If you follow the instructions they give you, you should have no problems putting this together. It is true what most people say about the black straps that hold down the bike being too hard to stretch out but once you get a hang of how to do it, it’s easier. It has a long string that I believe is used to tie the bike wheels in place to prevent it from moving around, allowing the bike handle to move as well. This strap is a little tricky because you need the right amount of force to put it together or just tie a knot. The bike I had did keep in place but I had to buy another piece for my bike to be able to use the product. So if you want to buy this rack you need to be sure what bikes are assemble or you’ll end up spending a little more for an added piece for your bike to sit properly.

Super funcional
¡Excelente producto!

A good replacement for my 16-year old bike rack
There are definite advancements between this new rack and a similar one from 16-years ago! The frame is a bit lighter, it is wider, the bike holders are more sturdy and the rubber car "mounts" better positoned. However, all this comes with having to re-learn the best way to mount the bikes.
