Reviews don't do the lamp justice.

If you're looking for a Lava lamp, but are afraid of wasting money on it due to the reviews, PLEASE keep reading! -This product is definitely worth a purchase!‐ I was extremely hesitant to buy online because of all the reviews stating that the lamp was defective in some way (broken bulb/glass, coil not working etc) but what made me want to try was another review expressing how to troubleshoot with the lamp in the case of it not doing what was expected out of it immediately. I really appreciate that reviewer and I hope this review will be worth the read for others who are on the fence but really want one. I received the package in fine condition, read the start up instructions (please read them!), and set up my lamp with no issues! Since it's cold where I live, I had to let the bottle warm to my bedrooms ambient temperature before turning on the lamp The lava process needs patience in order for it to work. The rest of the checklist was fine (coil was nestled in the right spot, bottle was not cloudy, bulb was packaged well and was intact.) After I turned on the lamp, it took about 5 hours for the wax to start "towering", and after a day, it was working perfectly. Now this is where ambient temperatures come into play for me. I have a bedroom that is either too warm or too cold. The instructions state that the lamp works best in a certain temperature range, that way the bottle can stay warm enough throughout the day to keep the wax melted as it flows to the top. I had turned my lamp off for 2 days when my area had a cold front move in, so my room got colder. The lava never settled to the bottom fully, so it was left in a "stalagmite" or lumpy shape for those 2 days because it didn't cool slow enough. I ran it for 3 days after, on and off like the instructions say to do, but it never melted the wax fully. I researched what I could do to fix it but since my coil was where it should be, I wasn't finding help online. (Last pic is an example of this problem.) I decided to take a risk and heat some water to a simmer (almost boiling), and poured the water into a seperate large container so I could gently melt the wax and warm the bottle without breaking the glass. It worked well enough, and it seems that the lava is working perfectly now! TL:DR - take the plunge and buy this lamp. If the product is not working as intended, customer service is here to troubleshoot or even replace your lamp (I didn't need to contact though) and if you follow the instructions as best you can, this lamp works just fine! Make sure to keep your room at a good temp and you shouldn't have the same issue as me. If you do, just heat the bottle back up in some hot water (like giving it a "bath" ????) and it should solve the issue! Thanks for reading!

Seems pretty good

I bought this lava lamp for my young son whose first lava lamp stopped working properly for unknown reasons. It was given to him on Christmas and has been turned on most of the time since. He's pleased with it. The liquid is clear. There's never been any issue with cloudiness in the lamp I got. The wax globs fine, but it does develop bubbles in it sometimes that cause it not to glob quite right. Turning it off and allowing it to fully cool before turning it back on seems to solve this, but it's not a problem I ever had with any lava lamp I've owned before, so I'm not sure if it's a quirk of this lamp in particular or something resulting from cheaper construction processes. In any case, having seen some of the negative reviews, I felt like this was something of a gamble, but in my case it seems to have mostly paid off in that the lamp I got works pretty well.

best lava lamp I’ve owned.

The media could not be loaded. So I first will start off saying that my lamp didn’t come in foggy at all!! Which I appreciate so much. I do want to say something because a lot of people don’t really know how these work but just a reminder that these do take a couple hours to fully heat up (mostly because they’re wax I’m pretty sure) I know a lot of people seem confused when it doesn’t work right away so I just figured it would be helpful to mention. But all in all, I have to say this is a great lava lamp. it came in great condition and it’s so pretty to look at. I grew up having the blue and green one and I didn’t really enjoy that color but this pinkish purply orange is my favorite. I will also mention mine came in 6 days early then expected which is very convenient.

Retro relaxation

Oops, after a few days, now has globs at the top and cloudy fluid. I did a temp fix but I actually know what is wrong. There has to be air at the top, but a bit too much and some gets into the was blobs, then they won't sink back. fA quick fix is to tilt it gently to get the top blob to touch another, and then it back on and run it 24 hours. There is a bit of air trapped in the blob and it won't sink again as it cools. The more it runs, the fewer issues. It's a really wonderful throwback to 1970, when my roommate brought one to our dorm room as a fun joke. But you know, we loved the colorful glow it gives a darkened room, and staring at oozing wax is oddly relaxing. When this arrives, you have to "assemble" it, meaning put the lamp bottle on the base with the light bulb and put on the silver cap. Then the instructions tell you to let it warm up (run) for 3 or more hours, to get the cold wax melted and flowing upwards as the wax becomes less dense as it expands in the warmth. The bottle DOES indeed look cloudy when you get it, I presume from lightly emulsified wax globules that have come loose in shipping and floated into the liquid. After running this an hour, I had clear liquid and flowing lava-like globs of wax. (Most of the time, the blobs were discrete bubbles of wax, the streaming only seemed to happen when the wax first allowed to warm up. I repeated it next day, same thing; streaming lava until the lamp got very hot, then the wax rose and fell in two or three big spheres.) My wax did not float to the top and stay there, as has been reported by some owners. If the lamp has been shaken, often the wax will clump on sides or top and not behave as it should (by reforming a lump at the bottom: an air bubble trapped there can be to blame.) Bulb replacements are wattage by height, check around and note your own lamp wattage. A small sheet of instructions and bulb wattage would have been nice to have been included in the box. This lamp is the same as almost a half century ago (Wow. Really that long ago?) It's very simply constructed. A bottle of colored liquid with yellow wax is capped by a crown crimp cap just like a beer bottle. You set the bottle on a base with a round incandescent bulb that provides the illumination as as the heat to melt the wax. A decorative cap sits on top to hide the crimp cap. Turn on the switch. As the wax heats, it rises as its density decreases. As it cools near the top, it grows denser again and sinks. That's all there is to it, though recently, a company that provides encryption algorithms found a way to use a wall of these groovy lamps and a video recording of their random patterns to generate true random numbers. My use is much less high tech. I find the pink glow and a darkened room and some music a great way to unwind after a tough day in the office.I got the pink and in retrospect, a more pleasing choice, making a warm, womb-like glow in the room. But it comes in other color to suit your psychedelic requirements.

Finally a decent lava lamp

After buying a blue one for less money that left me a bit worried about this one, I was mesmerized when I saw how great it is. This lava lamp looks like a sunset, the movement of the wax is great. There are different-sized bubbles and there's a constant exchange between the top and bottom. It's also very bright, it definitely catches your eye. The only 2 downfalls are the price and slight murkiness of the liquid on the bottom. I'm having trouble understanding why the price of lava lamps is anything over 20$ like when I was a kid, but regardless, I'm very happy with it now.

Doesn’t turn on…

I was so excited for this product…but I put the lightbulb in, plugged it in…and it won’t turn on at all. :( Can’t find a way to contact the seller to try to get a replacement. Would rather exchange than flat out return!!

Great lamp, but takes very long to heat up

PROS: - looks great - bright, bold colour - aluminium stand feels authentic (high quality) - the price was reasonable - delivery speed was great, got it delivered within a week of ordering it online CONS: - it takes quite long for the wax/bubbles to form (you've gotta wait over an hour if you wanna see anything) - lamp gets very hot and can be dangerous if you touch the aluminium areas (you can get burned) - the lamp itself is kind of cheap (since it's just a glass bottle with wax and coloured water, and a bulb...I mean, anybody could make something like this)

Relaxing to watch and beautiful!

Bought this for for a relaxing lamp in a odd shaped room. It’s worked out great and it is more beautiful than I remembered.
