In 10 minutes you, too, could get your ice back.
Our new-to-us house came with a fancy fridge with a water dispenser that was painfully slow. My first inclination was to replace the water filter (a whole other story as the old one broke inside requiring the jaws of life to get it out) and be done with it. Sadly, after the effort to extract and replace the filter our flow rate still wasn't what I thought it should be. Tracing the copper line and led me down to the crawl-space where I found a good sized kink (and leak) that somehow went unnoticed. My usual go-to fix is to spend the extra money on a Sharkbite fitting and make quick work of the repair. But with 1/4-in tubing that isn't an option as such items don't exist. Compression unions like this, however, aren't as fast as Sharkbites but they've been around forever and are proven to work. Ten minutes later we were back in business and the flow rate has gone from dismal to adequate. The next step is to replace the saddle valve that's supplying the line in the first place. I'm sure the original installer had good intentions in using a saddle valve, but those things aren't welcome in my home.

... this union with nylon hose and wasn't all that happy. If the nylon hose isn't perfectly cut straight ...
I used this union with nylon hose and wasn't all that happy. If the nylon hose isn't perfectly cut straight it will compress and come out at an angle and look slightly kinked. I kept thinking I was going to damage the hose as I tightened the fitting or that it will shear easily. The issue is that the hose does not sit over anything inside of the union. I have used fittings where either an insert is placed in the hose or the hose slides over a nipple on the fitting itself and this issue is prevented since the hose is kept perfectly straight. However, for a more rigid hose than nylon I could see this posing no issue with this union.

7/16 union high pressure line fix
Nobody had it in stock, didn’t think it’d work held together an electric high pressure power steering line on my 14 Altima without having to pull the subframe and engine to replace the hardline. Hose clamps blew fuel injection pressure lines and connectors blew apart 80-120ish psi I think. Good stuff. Great temporary bypass to move it around till I get the time to fix it right.

Odd size.
This will not fit 3/4" copper pipe. The inside diameter is 3/4". No idea what they are used with.
