REPLACED OLD CIRC PUMP
I moved my water heater from an attic space to the garage below but didn’t move the old circ pump. This caused the pump to fail due to trapped air or dry run condition. I used this new pump and installed about middle height of the water heater along with cut off valves and a check valve. It’s working great providing hot water fast anywhere in the house.

These little circulators work very well in a system that provides hot water kwickly far from the water heater....especially nice when used with a timer.

Beware...the old timer can't be used with this pump.
When we built our house in 1999, I had a Laing recirculating pump install so the master shower would get hot water quickly. Without it, almost 4 gallons of water goes down the drain waiting for hot water. I have replaced this pump every 5 years or so. With the model number differing slightly on the first two pumps. With all models, at about 5 years, the impeller becomes unstable and rattles horribly, echoing in the plumbing, then stopping completely. I continue to replace them with the same product because I haven't found a suitable substitute that wouldn't require a lot of plumbing. The change out couldn't be simpler...unplug the old pump, unscrew the pump body from the line fitting, screw in the new pump body. I've also had a timer attached to the body so the pump doesn't run 24/7 but only during certain periods of the day. Other than the first two pumps, the timer I bought with the third pump has worked on every pump thereafter....except this one I just purchased. While the model number remains the same on the pump, it appears that they modified the connectors on the bottom of the pump. The old timer that fit on the last two pumps no longer fits. They want another $76 for a new timer. So if you're planning to use the old timer, you can't. They should mention this in the description, but they don't.

Easy replacement for older Laing pumps
After reading some other reviews, I came to the conclusion that this Laing pump would work to replace our older Laing pump that had suddenly just quit working. The best thing about this pump is that it can attach to the brass top of the older pump and eliminates the need to have a plumber come out and replace the whole unit that is either soldered in place or is attached with threaded fittings. To replace the pump, there is a threaded brass ring that holds the pump motor to the brass top that you remove with a large set of tongue and groove pliers (Channel Locks). Remove the brass top from the new pump in this fashion and then remove the old pump from it's brass top the same way. Then, attach the new pump to the old brass top (that is already attached to the plumbing pipes) by threading the brass ring onto the the threads of the brass top. Make sure the rubber o-ring is properly set into the groove in the brass top before you do this. Snug the ring up with the pliers and that's it, you're done. I went ahead and ordered the optional timer for the new pump since our old one had a timer as well. The model number of the old pump is SMT-303-BSW and this new pump was a direct "bolt on" replacement.

Used plumber to replace old Laing recirculating pump
Had an older model of this which lasted 5 years. Price has doubled since then. As long as you turn the water off, just unscrew the old one and screw this one in. You don't even have to take the old cap off. I used a plumber. After 3 days, my 75 gallon tank sent hot water to all taps in my house-on demand.

Great Pump and Requires Sweating Copper Pipes
I installed this pump on my hot water heater and it's worked great so far! It requires sweating copper piped directly into it and takes a bit of patience to get the entire brass fixture to temperature. Once you do that though it works great!

Good pump, screw on replacement for the old 303 series Laing pumps.
Quick replacement. I used this pump to replace the old Laing 303 series pump. No soldering was needed. I was able to un-screws the old pump, clean the old manifold, and screw on the new pump with o-ring to the old manifold. The pump I received has a power light and a small turn switch/knob on it. I turned the knob all the way up. I have this pump plugged into a wifi smart outlet which is programmed to come on at specific times (TPLINK HS103) . So far all is well. I got a quote from Benjamin Franklin plumbing for $925. Since I replaced it myself I saved big!
