Best set of features I could find, but watch battery life

This was easy to install and works great. After looking at many, many locks, this had the best set of features I could find, and is of the highest security level classification. The one drawback, and this is mentioned in other reviews, is that sometimes the batteries just drain. I think I've figured out why though. If your door doesn't always properly align when you close it, the lock will continuously still try to lock itself until it has completely drained the battery. This is true even if the door is just slightly misaligned and the bolt has partly turned, if it can't completely extend the bolt, it retries over and over again until the batteries are drained. The only way I see around this is to everyone in the household stand there and wait for the lock to complete the locking action and ensure it's done. I'm hoping that kwikset can release a firmware/software update that will instead have the lock alarm and stop after something like 10 failed lock attempts instead of just trying the same action over and over until the batteries fail. Of course I'm also going to try get my door better aligned to reduce the chances of this happening in the first place, but with a houseful of different people I think a technological solution would be nice to have instead of having to count on training people and expecting a mechanical object (the door) to always function correctly.

Good lock but needs batteries every 4 months

Let me first say I really like everything about this lock except the battery life. This is my first smart lock so it may be standard but I hoped to get at least 6 months out of the batteries. This lock is sold, has a great finish and was super easy to install. The one plus about the batteries is they are easy to swap. The lock functions great and it's really easy to add or remove users or unlock it from the app! We are in the market for another lock and will likely buy another one of these even though it doesn't have the battery life I would like just because the rest of it works so well.

Very nice, but doesn't work with RIng Security System and buggy setup app.

Installation was remarkably simple, thanks to the very good instructions and components in numbered boxes corresponding to the steps in the manual. However, the app would not let me set up the lock, kept giving an error message that it could not load the installation guide and dumping back to the main menu. That eventually worked, but had to wait a few hours. Kwikset Customer Service was helpful, sorta. The biggest issue I have is that this system does NOT work with Ring Security System. Being WiFi enabled, I expected that it would have this capability, but nope. Otherwise, a very nice and good-looking device.

I made the right choice

After the keypad on my garage door failed and I was locked out of my house, I finally decided to purchase a keyless door opener. It only took me about an hour to install and the directions were very easy to follow, even after keying the wrong key which only took minutes to correct the error. I already had a Kwikset deadbolt so the replacement fit perfectly. So easy to add codes for anyone that needs access to your house, or use the app for allowing to let them in remotely. It also shows you the battery level, who enters and exits, and if you left the door unlocked. So glad I made the decision to purchase this.

Many user codes

Likes: easy to install. Wi-fi and blu-tooth capable. Vary codes - many options. Touch to lock. Notifications on entry exit and tampering available through app. Good customer service. Dislike: In instruction manual it did not show the correct way to enter the entry code. It showed a photo using the back of your hand. That is not correct. When you touch the pad, one- two random number pop up. Touch them and then the entire touch pad can be seen to enter the code for unlocking the door.

initial Review, I Like It But……

Update 10-11-2022 It seems that things have settled down now power wise. I put in new set of batteries in early August and they are now down to 50% so I would guess it’s possible to get 4 months of use out of one set of batiereis ( I am using Energizer) and this is acceptable to me. I still wish I could add an battery pack with C batieres to it…. It does seem to be worthy of 4 stars so I am upgrading my review to reflect that….; I am pretty impressed with many aspects and features of this Kwikset halo WIFI Smart lock. UPDATE 7-23-2022 The battery level has held steady at 80% until now. We manually lock it form the inside and lock/unlock is below 10 per day. So for now I am happy. i will do another update in a month. Original review Its very solidly built with a lot of thought gone into the design of it. It looks good Touchpad is quite responsive, certainly more than good enough for its purpose Installation took a while longer because the unit I received from Amazon did not behave as expected (it turned out to be defective) Connecting to Bluetooth was OK, also was connecting to wifi. I had to fine tune the lock assembly to remove a slight drag as the dead-bolt reciprocated to lock and unlock positions. As mentioned in parentheses, the amazon lock was defective and i had to return it. I bought a replacement for the same price from a local big box hardware store. This installation went faster because it was second time around and I had already uninstalled the Amazon bought lock. I installed the app on my Pixel 6 Pro it was fairly straightforward if a little laborious. Here is where things are a bit uncertain… By the way, I have set the auto-lock to off and manually lock it from the inside. The first day, the battery level was at 100% Second day it dropped to 90% Third day between 07.00 and 14.00 the battery level dropped to an alarming 60% There was less usage than the 10 locks/unlocks so the usage was fair, so I was alarmed at such a drop. Fourth Day, the battery level went back up to 70% then later in the day to 75% Fifth Day, it went up again to 80% Its mid afternoon now on the fifth day and its holding steady at 80% At 60% I was ready to return it, because using 40% in 3 days was outrageous but it has given itself a reprieve and I am carefully monitoring the battery usage. This reviews is using the 4 batteries that came with the unit. This is a really good lock that ideally needs an optional battery pack with size C batteries that can be attached to the door close to the unit. If I can get 4 months usage out of the batteries I would be happy, I will be doing follow up reviews as to how this goes. I do agree with Kwikset that there must be NO drag on the deadbolt or this will eat the battery. I have carefully made sure there is no drag and have also adjusted the lower lock to make sure the door closes soothly in line with the deadbolt. I love the convenience of this smart lock, The ability to lock/unlock this form anywhere is a real boon to me. One recommendation is to use manual lock so when you close the door you manually lock it, this will save a lot of battery. I also carry a key and sometimes use that instead of using the motor. Also, i have used several smart locks (non wifi) and this is the best of all of them even considering the battery concerns. I wish it had a fingerprint reader but for what is is is excellent with room for improvement. AN aftermarket battery pack for be very welcome… So far I approve, stay tuned for updates,,,,

Minimalist Lock

If you're looking for a cheaper minimalist lock this is it. It only works with Amazon and it only comes with a square latch, if you need a round latch you have to wait an additional 10 - 15 days for lock support to send you a round latch. Note most locks come with ability to reconfigure the latch to either round or square right out of the box. Kwikset was too cheap to put small adapter for the latch in the box so I don't have high hopes for this, but I will give it a try. I dislike products that I have to pay for well in advance of when I can actually use them.

Most difficult piece of junk ever

Getting this lock to connect to Bluetooth on the phone was the first challenge, have to do a factory reset over and over just to get it connected. Then connecting to the WiFi oh Lord I nearly took an axe to this thing. Took me over 2 hours of repeating the setup until finally it connected. This was not the first time this process had to be done, same for both experiences with the second being due to a router change and needing to reconnect. Very very frustrating piece of junk. Really regret getting this unit.

Alexa skill doesn’t work in Canada

Lock was easy to install and the interactive guide was quite helpful. However, the main reason I bought this lock was to unlock it with Alexa. But when I tried to set it up, I got an error message stating that I can use it due to ‘geographic restrictions’. This is very frustrating and I feel somewhat misled. There ARE customers outside of the US in case, you know. This is pretty relevant information that should be prominently displayed somewhere.
