The product itself was fine.

I bought the product *like-new* and it was missing a couple of screws. I was replacing the exact lock I had on my pocket door already so I had the screws but it should've came with all the needed screws. Also it had white paint stuck to it, I tried scraping it off as it did not match the paint on the door I have. It's stuck pretty good so I'll have to find another method to clean it off. The product itself works as should. Im just salty about the *like-new* aspect. As it was NOT *like-new*

Works, but requires finesse.

This is one great, but picky little door lock. I bought it for a hallway bathroom with a pocket door. I am currently taking care of my Mom who is recovering from surgery. I wanted a lock to install as a measure for me to avoid walking in on her than to actually offer full privacy because if she were to fall and really need my help I want to be able to easily get inside. The door I have was already predrilled for a standard door knob and this lock can be unlocked with a flat head screwdriver or even a penny on the outside so it fit the bill perfectly. After installing it I encountered the same problems other people were having. The lock got significantly harder to operate. I could turn it, but I wasn't sure if my Mom could. The locking dial is very shallow and seems like it would be difficult to grab and turn for arthritic people. It turned out she could still operate it, but I wasn't satisfied and did a little testing. Turns out that to loosen up the lock you need to make sure that the plate that screws into the door jamb is absolutely flush with the jamb. My door's jamb was countersunk too deeply when it was pre drilled and the plate sat about 1/8th of an inch inside the jamb. I cut up some of the cardboard box the lock came in, folded it and fit it behind the plate so that when screwed in the plate was flushed. Doing this halved the resistance needed in turning the lock's mechanism. I did this to the deadbolt hole in my door frame as well so that the lock could catch easier on the plate that they supplied me with. Unfortunately there is one other problem with this lock that was harder to fix. Pocket doors tend to have a excessive side to side play. I can push on mine when closed and see it swing half an inch to either side. If I press on this door lock while I turn it, the deadbolt will not fit into the catch installed in the door frame. The bolt will be off by half an inch so this lock will only work if I let the door settle into the middle position and then turn it without pushing against the door. This I don't think will give me or my Mom much trouble to get the hang of. The problem lies in getting it to unlock. Both me and my Mom can't help but push a bit when unlocking the door, by doing this the nifty pop out thumb grab on the lock's deadbolt gets caught in the door frame plate that is supposed to only catch the locking mechanism itself. When this happens the best solution I found was to pull the pocket door toward me while applying pressure on the lock's dial to unlock it the rest of the way. I can do this, my Mom can't. The solution here I think is that I need to glue a little barrier to block the thumb grab from catching on the left side of the plate installed in the door frame. Thank God that the hook inside the deadbolt grabs only the right side of same plate, otherwise the lock would be made useless. Once installed the lock looks great, I only wish that the manufacturers took into account that most pocket doors have a lot play in them when designing this. At least the faults of the lock were easily fixable once I was able to narrow down the source of the problems.

Exactly what I needed!

We installed this as part of a pocket door installation on our bathroom. Our contractor did the installation since we were in the process of an extensive remodel of the kitchen and bathroom. He had no issues with installation and was actually impressed by the quality. It's worked well since installation 3 months ago.

Ordered it Saturday - got it Monday!

Delivery was unexpectedly quick. Replacement for existing item for which the internal spring had disconnected. Even though Kwikset has a lifetime guarantee, I wanted to save the hassle of trying to find the old receipt and go through the process. Drop in replacement for previous model. Works like a charm: locks, and extendable button allows you to pull the pocket door out of its slot when it has been pushed in all the way.
