Seems like a good drain, but different threads from others
Giving it a 4 as it would probably work well on its own if installed as a unit and was nice looking. However, I ended up returning it as I bought this hoping that I could use the top piece with a different tailpiece that a plumber had already installed. The thread was slightly different than other "standard" tailpieces of the same size from other manufacturers.

Better Quality
I purchased this for a custom shower install using square mosaic tile for the shower floor. This is a truly square drain, making tile cutting and placement much easier. Additionally, the drain frame is about ¼" thick (more or less) aluminum or stainless, with a removable and replaceable grid insert (also thick). This is more expensive than the Home Depot & Lowes stamped sheet metal drains that are round (even if you use the square cover). However, it is worth it for the much higher quality and longevity it offers. The lower assembly is gray PVC of standard pipe sizing. My install was onto an existing standpipe already set into the concrete basement floor. I only needed the upper assembly, and was able to simply unscrew this portion and mate it to a gray PVC adapter (electrical conduit to allow full threadding capability). This allowed me to easily set the depth and square it up by twisting it. Once set, the gap was filled with thin-set and sealed. 5 stars for this being of much better quality and style than the typical drains out there, and for its versatility.

It looks nice
I chose this drain for our shower remodeling (converted tub to a walk-in shower). The contractors were able to easily install the drain and tile around it. The drain fits in perfect and has a nice look/feel. I really like the ability to remove the top two screws and lift the cover to clean out the inside of the drain. Two items I don't like about the drain: 1. The holes/squares on the grid are big (I am not even sure how it compares to others - maybe this size is normal 2. I cannot find any square covers to catch hair. The only ones I see are round covers Overall, it is a solid and well built drain and does the job. No regrets about purchasing it.

Great for a shower build
I removed a stupid garden tub and added a walk-in shower, so needed a floor drain, this worked great, just make sure you are careful to install it parallel to your shower walls, so it is not cock-eyed. I was a design engineer for industrial facilities, and the contractor always had trouble aligning the drain parallel to the wall, so I specified a round drain...you can't screwed that up, but tile work is a bit harder....but a home owner has 100% control so go for it.

Great Drain But Know How You're Going To Use it
I bought this to build a shower using a shower pan liner system made by Mark E Industries and sold as Goof Proof Shower as well as other names for the individual components. That system has a center ring that goes over the drain that is designed for the run of the mill twenty dollar shower drains that you buy at the big box stores. This Kohler drain has a much higher profile and wont work with that system. The drain is so high above the flange that you'd have to lay two layers of tile to get the tile to the drain height. Unfortunately, I had already built the shower bed before I figured this out so now I have the base and flange of this very expensive drain cemented in and the cheap top piece from the big box store screwed in the top. No knock on Kohler, just my bad for not understanding how the two systems would work together. Make sure you do your research as to how you're using it because square drains are a bit different in practical application.

Nice Quality but didn't fit my application
The drain is higher quality than most on the market and feels hefty and solid. In a lot of applications, I'm sure this is an excellent choice, and it comes in a variety of finishes. However, i'm installing a KBRS tileable shower base and found that the Kohler drain does not screw into the barrel far enough to use. Due to the design of the strainer base, when screwed all the way in, it still sits more than an inch above the flange. Because of the built-in slope of the KBRS base, the tile would have to be built up nearly an inch to be level with the strainer which, for several reasons, would not work. If you're using the KBRS tileable shower base, you're going to have to make another choice for the drain. I ended up using the Oatey model suggested by KBRS. It is a much cheaper drain, both in price and looks, but it works.

Great quality, gorgeous color, quick delivery and competitive price
Gorgeous color - perfectly matches our brushed gold fixtures by Delta. Received product within two days! Price was far better than if purchased at a hardware store.

EXPENSIVE , BUT WORTH IT
Much better quality than the in stock ones at Home Depot, very heavy construction, and is height is adjustable like the in stocks, it didn't give this detail in description. Well worth the money,

Nice drain but way too expensive.
Drain is exactly as illustrated. Grating is heavy and nicely finished. Way, way, tooo expensive, though!! I'd say triple what it should cost!!

Nice shower drain
The installation was a breeze and because you can adjust it up and down, the tiles got perfectly leveled with it.
