Heavy-duty canvas MADE IN USA -- read for tips on zipper

This is a really nice canvas bag by Klein tools that should work great for a lot of different uses -- not just for contractors. Personally, I bought it to carry Bluebook tests: I teach college and wanted a nice oversized zippered case like this to carry the big stacks of exams in their own special place. Weird, I know, but there it is. Nothing more distinctive than a canvas bag! I love it. Here are a few of the best features, along with tips at the end about how to deal with the zipper. ► The canvas is SUPER HEAVY-DUTY. This is not the "canvas" you find at Target or the "canvas" the Chinese put on backpacks and accessories. This stuff is so thick and sturdy the bag can pretty much stand up on its own. It is almost comparable to leather. Very thick, very tough, and probably very durable. The stitching is high quality. ► The bag is "Made in the USA of US and imported parts," and you can tell. It's quality. Nuff said. ► The size is great for carrying papers. The bag is actually MUCH bigger than most papers, but this allows it (1) to carry oversized papers; and (2) to carry large stacks of papers, including things like notebooks and portfolios. Because of the durability of the canvas, it would also be great for carrying some small tools or electronics. ► HOW TO DEAL WITH THE ZIPPER. OK, so a few people have said the zipper is tough to use. Kind of true. It sticks when you run it back and forth. But let's be clear: THIS IS NOT A CHEAP ZIPPER. It's a genuine YKK. Not only that, it is a heavy duty brass YKK, one of the strongest and most long-lasting they offer. I will admit that it is hard to use when you open the package, but I have had this kind of zipper in the past and it only gets better. So how to make it AWESOME from the start? I went straight to the bathroom and grabbed my tube of Wahl clipper oil (the kind used on hair trimmers), zipped the zipper closed, and applied oil down the whole length of the zipper. Then I ran it open and closed several times. After a few passes, when the oil sank in and spread around the brass, it was SMOOTH AS BUTTER. I then smiled and a wide grin and came to write this review. Seriously, I love this thing and know it will serve me well for a long time. It's super high quality and very attractive too. My students have already commented on my "cool canvas bag," and they know, when they see it, that their exam is inside!

My go to bag

Instead of carting around a large heavy backpack on troubleshooting gigs I can just grab this bag out of my van and handle most issues thrown my way. A meter, battery tester, pens/markers, couple screwdrivers/nut drivers, wire strippers, some other assorted small tools and I'm able to handle most problems that come my way. Pros: -Durable -Much easier to carry around than a heavy tool backpack -Affordable Neutral: The zipper might be a bit rough at first but after the first week it should be as much of a problem. Some oil may help this. Cons: - Wish it had some type of strap for a bigger handle but I'm nitpicking. This bag is worth it and is saving my back from carrying a heavy tool backpack on every job I go on. Highly recommend this bag.

Great Bag!

I bought this and another Klein canvas bag to store knitting tools and yarn in almost 3 years ago, and use them frequently. The bags fit nicely in my backpack or messenger bag. I found the stitching to be sturdy and the zippers strong, and that the bag itself was well constructed. This is a bag that was made for tools and meant to be sturdy because of the intended use. I could see these bags being used for tools and on job sites and lasting at least a decade. For my use, I expect them to last a lifetime. Honestly, even if they lasted only a decade, it's an amazing buy. the only problem I had was with the zippers being a bit stiff when they arrived (also something I had seen complained about in other reviews on amazon), rubbing beeswax onto the zippers clears this up just fine.

Hard to Beat

I think it's a bit pricey, but try to find something similar for less in this size! I bought it to carry a license plate and related odds and ends. Works well! And, as other reviewers have predicted, the zipper gets better with time. Edit: 15 September 2015-- I accidentally left some cough drops in this thing in the summer sun. They melted and I had to clean the sticky mess out. Much to my surprise, when I filled this bag with hot water there were no visible leaks! It's _far_ more watertight than I had any right to expect. I like this thing even more now, but the price is so pain-inducing I'll probably not buy another even though I have good uses in mind. Edit: 16 July 2018-- The price came down and I bought two more. They may not be the last. Still loving this product!

Klein Tools 5336........The BIG BOY!

Nice zipper pouch from Klein Tools. Dimensions are 16.5"X11.5". Pouch is made from a tough canvas and should last for years. Utilizes a YKK zipper that is a little tough to operate right now, but will hopefully get smoother with time. I like the material the pouch is made of and I like the size and the paracord pull for the zipper was a nice touch, but I think the price is a little high. Hopefully this pouch will last for years and I can get my money's worth from it, but only time will tell.

strong bag helps to organize random stuff

The zipper seams pretty strong. I have been using it for several months now. It's good for organizing and consolidating items. The portfolio size is more useful for my purposes, i.e. carrying various charging cables/extension cables, rubber stamps, calculator, inspection tools. Not too pretty to throw on the floor which is what i needed.
