I purchased this set after a glowing recommendation from another mom at postnatal yoga. The selling point for me was the truly slow flow nipple which she said was the best she had found- she demonstrated by holding the bottle upside down and saying it was the only one that did not drip out milk that she has tried. I am returning to work soon and have been trying a number of bottles with my breastfed baby. I was disappointed when receiving this and at first try finding that the niipples DO drip, at about the rate of 1 drip per 1-2 seconds. Since I had just seen firsthand that they are not supposed to drip and read multiple reviews here on Amazon that they do not drip- I contacted customer service assuming that I had received a defective nipple. They responded and I thought I would share their response here, as it is quite thorough: -------------------------------------------- Thanks for contacting us! The slit nipples were actually not well received at all. In fact, most of our customers hated them! You will see a handful of Amazon reviews and Facebook comments out there from a small number of people who had success with the older version. The vast majority of little ones just couldn't make them work, or they proved to be prohibitively expensive due to the fact that they didn't last very long for most people. By popular demand, they have been designed for better flow consistency, and for longevity. The new version is also softer. You'll also notice that the new slow flow has a much slower flow rate as well. This may seem surprising, given that the new version drips slightly when held upside down (whereas the old version did not). When your little one is actually suckling on the old version, however, the slit opens up and the flow rate can be fairly fast. The dynamic flow rate (the maximum flow rate when your little one is actually suckling on the nipple) on the new slow flow version (with the round hole) is actually slower than the old version. This makes it a very breastfeeding-friendly nipple, and one that lasts much longer. The new version certainly requires a very active latch and a good amount of work to get flow from the nipple! The new slow flows may drip a tiny amount when the bottle is inverted. This is normal, and you can rest assured that they are among the slowest flow nipples available on the market. They are slower than other brands' preemie nipples! If you feel that they are free flowing faster than just 1-2 drips per second, please let me know and I'll send you out replacements. Of course the medium and fast flows will drip or flow much faster (as these are intended for older children)! It may seem that this new version is a dramatic change, but the change is actually quite subtle, and does not compromise any of the breastfeeding-friendly characteristics of the original design. I would encourage you to try them out, and we'd be happy to send you a pair to try for free. Please send your mailing address and I'll have them sent right out. The new nipple design also makes it much easier to squeeze the air out of Twist Pouches. You will no longer need to pinch the tip of the nipple with your other hand. Just squeeze the pouch firmly once the nipple is on (while holding it upright), and the air will flow out of the nipple. Always make sure to squeeze the air out of the pouch using the technique above each time you give the Twist Pouch back to your little one. If you keep the Twist Pouch upside down during feeding, no air will ever enter the pouch! As with any nipple currently on the market, if you wish to turn the bottle right side up to take a break from feeding, air may re-enter the pouch through the nipple! As a result, just remember to give the pouch a quick squeeze (while it is upright) to get the air out before giving it to your little one again! More of the new version are available now from Amazon.com. Any Active Latch Nipples (slow, medium, or fast flow) ordered from Amazon from now forward will be the new version. The new versions should be widely available in all stores in the next 1-2 months. All of our packages have a date code stamped (indented, not printed) into the bottom of the box. If you are looking for the new nipples in a store, look for nipples with a date code that is 201502LS or newer (for example, 201502LS, or 201508LS). If you would still like to seek out the old version, look for date codes before 201502LS (for example, 201411LS). Thanks, --------------------- I am continuing to offer the Kindii nipple to my baby and although she hasn't quite embraced it (she just bites on it)- I did notice that despite that it does drip-- that she does not end up spitting out milk or having milk running down her chin- the way it does when I use the comotomo. So I guess it is indeed a slow flow. Overall, I love the idea of the system. I do love using the freemie milk collection cups-- and am not surprised that there is not a way to use this system in conjunction with the freemie cups. As other reviewers noted, the other downside is that they do not store flat. As I was mostly interested in this sytem for the sake of the bottle/nipple aspect- I am OK with that.
