Good starter track
We got this for my son for his second birthday, and it's been a great starter train track for him. I'll comment on a couple of common notes I saw in other feedback: 1) Yes... the magnets repel each other when they're not going the right direction. Magnets do that. You need opposite poles for magnets to attract each other, and if you try to put the two similar poles together, they repel. There may be creative solutions to this issue, but for a relatively inexpensive toy, I don't see it as a major drawback - it's a learning opportunity for kids. Admittedly, when it first happened, I thought this *would* be a major problem. But it took me about 30 seconds to explain it to my 2-year-old, and he understood it right away. Ever since the first couple of times getting upset, he's immediately known to turn one of the train pieces around to get them to stick together. So I think how frustrating this concept is, and for how long, just depends a lot on the child and perhaps where they are on the spectrum of language comprehension at the time, etc. If they have problems understanding it, they will grow into it at some point so it's still worth keeping the toy around. 2) Train quality: I certainly wouldn't rate these trains as being top quality, but they're far preferable to plastic. Perhaps some changes have been made since earlier reviews - I'm not sure. But we haven't had issues with the train coming apart just being pulled over the bridge, etc. The magnets are not super-strong, but they're not overly weak either. The trains are lightweight, but this seems fine for a first train set. 3) Track quality: I haven't seen a problem with this either. Lightweight? Again, probably so. But I find them quite durable, and have not had problems with them coming apart through just running the trains over them. Again, my two-year-old hasn't had any problems putting the tracks together, or playing with them in such a way that allows them to stay together. If they were harder to get apart, that might be a whole other frustration for the toddler age group. 4) Compatibility: My parents bought a wooden Thomas train to go with this track, and it fits fine. They also got another wooden track to add to it (the brand escapes me, but it is also listed as compatible with Brio), and everything seems to fit. Whether various Thomas trains differ in their size, I don't know. Overall, this has been a great toy for us so far, after about a month of use. My son loves it, and enjoys putting the tracks together himself in different configurations, too.

Toddler Approved
My toddler loves this and keeps him entertained for a bit. I love that it’s good old fashion toys and not electronics. There is a small problem with the trains passing under the tunnel where it doesn’t make full clearance. But we “Slow down for the low bridge ahead” and the push the cars through.

Decent first set to try
This is a pretty decent starter set if you want to make sure your kid actually wants to play with a train without spending a ton of money. My 2 year old is obsessed with Thomas, but I didn't want to shell out the money until I was sure he was old enough to enjoy having something like this. The cars, trees and buildings are all in 2 pieces that don't stay together too well. When I got tired of helping him put them together every 2 seconds, I super glued them. The magnets aren't very strong and even myself I couldn't get all 3 cars to go over the bridge without coming apart. The best part is that he just got a ton of real Thomas engines and they work great on these tracks. The magnets in those are stronger as well. Just ordered some more tracks to expand the set. Overall it's a good entry level set to test the interest.

Train set
This is a fun awesome starter track set... My almost 3 year old loves it! Easy to assemble and unassemble... He has some other trains that he can use with it as well.... highly recommend this cute set... Comes with other fun accessories you can see in the picture.. my son is having a blast taking it apart a creating a few diff track patterns... Will be buying more tracks to extend the track creating fun!

It’s ok
The tracks are ok… it’s easy to assemble and most pieces are double sided. But i don’t love the the train or accessories. The magnets on the train are so weak that the train doesn’t even stay together going up the hill. Very disappointing.

Better then expected
I was looking for a basic wood train set. These are easy to latch together and have a cute design for the bridge. The train can fit under the bridge and they feel sturdy. The little plastic trees, buildings and wood people are also adorable. I loved that the front of the box featured a little girl as I got the set for a little girl who was asking for one. I was a little disappointed that neither of the wood people were girls, as that would have made it so much better for her. Quality wood train set!!

A great basic starter train set
This was very easy to set up, but make sure you bust out the superglue. I had to glue the treetops onto the trees, and glue a few train cars together. But all in all, I found the set to be well made and complete. My son loves his train set - he plays with it non-stop. He got a battery-powered Thomas train that fits on it and Tom pushes the cars around. However, after much use by Tom the tracks seem to be getting a little slippery, meaning that I think it is wearing down the wood. I am going to invest in an expansion pack since this set is a little small. It does better on a playmat or hardwood floor rather than a furry carpet. However there are little clips you can buy separately that keep the tracks together for use on a carpet. Overall it's fun, a good value, and taught my kid how to piece together the rails. And of course feeds into his explosive train obsession at 2 years old. I am about to buy more battery operated trains for it too since I am tired of pushing.

Good buy for the cost
The quality of the kidcraft items is not as high as some other brands...but the cost is also much lower for a very similar product. This is the second Kidcraft set I have bought for my son and, overall, I am quite happy with it.
