Nice to have

Nice to have this as part of our emergency toolkit. #6 of the instructions for use specifically say “to avoid carrying pets….” Why on earth does the demo video show her passing the dog to the man on the ladder! Most people don’t read instructions but don’t mislead with conflicting video ads.

Good product for the price / Returned my first ladder as it appeared to have been used!

My first ladder arrived in a plain brown box, not in it's original packaging. The ladder appeared to have been used or at leased unfolded and there were deep scratches on the paint where the ladder hangs out a window. I'm very disappointed I was shipped a fire safety device that appears to have been used/tried and then returned for a refund. This is very dangerous situation which could have had dangerous consequences if something was wrong with the product or had the previous purchaser damaged the ladder in any way. Returned and my second ladder came new in a Kidde Box!

Glad to have it in case of a fire/need to escape

Moved into a three floor townhouse and the bedrooms are on the third floor. Felt like a needed a way out in case of ascending fire/other threat. Haven't needed it (thank god) but have in the closet in the box it came in to be handy if needed. The box is not that large and is doesn't take up much space. I feel like we all learned during Covid that we have to take care of ourselves and have a plan. Depending on emergency services is not a good enough plan really. It makes me sleep better to have a way out.

Says one time use

I always wanted one of these and when I saw it for a good price I got it. Hopefully we will not have to use it. I wouldn't call it lightweight but it's not too heavy. The only thing I don't like about it is that is says you can only use it once. I was hoping to try it out first.

Great Item

Came packaged nicely in an exterior box. Was pleased with the product and ordered another. Hard to review sturdiness because it is a One Time Use product (though I hope never have to use) so will not be doing a test run. However, it looks easy to use and able to be picked up by most people.

Could be life saving! ONE-TIME USE ONLY, but practice using them if you can!

We own a multi-story home in the mountains. California wildfires have been more frequent, larger, and more devastating in the past, few years due to our extreme drought conditions and high winds (among other factors). We were concerned that our children might be stuck on the top floors with no way to escape if the stairs were engulfed in flames. The only way out: through the windows two or three stories high. These escape ladders would solve that problem for them: take them out of the box, attach to the window rim, unlock the steps, and climb down. We did a couple test runs and coached them to ALWAYS have 3 points of contacts on the ladder: meaning, there are 2 hands and 2 feet -- always keep 3 of those limbs on the ladder while moving. Learned this trick from ice climbing. WARNING: Packaging says the ladder can ONLY BE USED ONE TIME. After that, Kidde considers the integrity of the ladders as compromised. Should you practice? Heck yes. Can you practice? If you're a teenager or heavier, I would advise against it -- practice with ANOTHER unit instead (yes, it'll cost you money, but it's best everyone knows how to use the ladder in an emergency instead of at that very moment). I had my little kids practice under supervision. I also inspected the ladder afterwards before putting it back away.

Box arrived open but otherwise looks good

Product looks sturdy and easy to use. Box arrived open, which is a bit concerning for a safety product.

Not big enough for new walls

We've recently had an extension & loft conversion, so got this for the loft window. But whilst we're sure it will work ok, if needed, the walls are thicker than the hooks, so it'll have to rest on the outer window ledge as it doesn't reach from one side of the wall to another. It's worth double checking if you're not happy to have it 'not as shown on the picture', but we couldn't find anything like this with wide enough hooks, so better this than nothing. Product arrived quickly and is well made, so if ever used (and we're obviously hoping it never will be) we're sure it would provide a safe means of escape regardless of it not fitting exactly as shown in the pictures.

Awesome Escape Ladders

Great escape ladder! We bought them for every one of our serviced apartments and tried them out right away. From the 3rd story, there will still be a 5 - 6 foot jump, but it's better than jumping 3 stories! These ladders are one of those things you REALLY appreciate you have, once you need it!
