I bought this for my 4-month-old miniature dachshund puppy. She's about 17 inches long, nose to tail, so I was a little concerned it'd be too small for her. The size is perfect! She can curl up against the sides, with room to spare, or drape herself over the bolsters in a more Dali-esque position. She's also a big chewer/destroyer; the reason I was buying a bed is that I had to take away the sheepskin-style bolster bed I'd bought, 'cause she kept pulling off pieces of fuzz and trying to swallow them. SO! I love the design of this bed -- it's soft (both in terms of a velvety texture and in terms of squishiness), the top seams are not so prevalent that they call out to be ripped apart, the bottom seams are tucked away under the bolsters, and there's no fuzz! (I still wouldn't leave her unattended with the bed, 'cause the brand medallion on the BACK of the bed begs for chewing.) I love the colors. Earthy and understated instead of campy or cutesy. She likes the bed; I just caught a pic of her with her nose completely buried under the bolster. If you know dachshunds, you know how characteristic this is of this digging/burrowing breed. She doesn't LOVE the bed... she'll still crawl over to fall asleep on me, and then I can PUT her in the bed, but she's not apt to just fall asleep in it of her own accord. EDIT: Two days after I wrote this review, she'd had a long day of training and grooming and such. I was holding her on my lap, and she started clamoring out of my arms... it took me a couple minutes to realize she was trying to get to this bed! As soon as I let her get in it, she curled up and fell happily asleep. This happened twice more in the same day. So... apparently she DOES love it! Which brings me to this: is it a self-warming bed, as it claims? I would argue that it is not. I got it in part because she LOVES to snuggle right up next to me, UNDER a blanket, and sometime even under a pillow. I thought, "This dog cannot be too warm!" which I also understand is common for the breed. However, despite her CONSIDERABLE heat output herself (she's like a little battery), this bed does not warm up more than nor stay warmer longer than, a conventional bed, blanket, or other cloth surface. I tried warming it myself by resting my elbow and forearm on it for a few minutes, and that did nothing. After she gets up, the spot she'd been lying in cools off at a rate even faster than my couch. So, it seems to me that the mylar or whatever is in the bed does nothing except crinkle. Which is my next point. I purposely didn't get her the Slumber Pet Thermal Cat Mat because many reviewers said it was crinkly and noisy. As I mentioned, she's a puppy easily wooed to the Chew Side, and I didn't want her to be overly interested in the noise of her bed. Unfortunately, this bed is pretty crinkly. It's not LOUD... I mean, it's not going to wake you up if you're sleeping near it or something. It's just... present. And it's enough to make her keep wanting to investigate (read that: gnaw on) the floor of the bed. So! I like the bed, and I'm glad I bought it, but I don't think it's fair to market it as a warming bed, and I think folks oughta know about the noise factor. It's still a pretty good bed for that low price and for the quality of the construction.
