This is not quite what you would expect

First of all I want the manufacturer to contact me about this. I spent $750 and I have to say I am disappointed. General impression is that it is kinda cheaply made. It just does not have a very solid feel about it insofar as the tripod, rod, and mechanism to hold the receiver to the rod. The quality of the receiver though is very problematic. Though it is not the most expensive part of this system, like the loss of the proverbial horseshoe nail its deficiencies make the whole thing nearly unusable. Anyway, I do a lot of contracting work even though I am a lawyer by profession. Here are the problems with this thing as I see them. 1. When you get the package, some of the stuff inside is rattling around. There is a reason for this. The plastic box which is durable and fairly well made, is not molded to hold the items inside. The foam insert for the laser itself only fits on one half of the laser; the other half seems to be an ill conceived misfit top. The charger, the bracket for the receiver, glasses, and a couple of other odds and ends just bounce around inside the case. This contributes to the one star value for the money. 2. The receiver. a. First of all, it is not as accurate as I was led to believe. Perhaps for outside work utilizing big machines maybe, but inside work, you need something else. b. It does not move very easily up and down the rod. c. The part that is really ridiculous is the screen on the receiver. It is so shiny that trying to see the leveling arrows and level line is utterly annoying to the point of making the receiver and thus the whole laser level system just a tad short of useless. Turning on the backlight only makes the situation worse and in fact, my guess is that it may only work if you are in complete darkness. d. There is no foam section to put the receiver in. There appears to be some kind of a slot in the foam insert for the laser itself but it is so tight that I fear I will break the receiver. Not only that, as I mentioned previously, the bottom and top part of the foam insert do not match up. This is the main reason for the two single star ratings. 3. Tripod and rod. I just have to say, these feel really cheaply made. I just dont have a good feeling about how long they will last. Again, I just think if you spend $750, some of these peripheral pieces should have a more sturdy feel to them. 4. Laser itself. As I said at the outset, it seems to work most of the time. Not sure why it will suddenly turn off and go into leveling mode again when not a living soul is within a 100 feet of the thing. The line itself appears to be about 1/8 to 3/16th's of an inch thick. What happens is that when you are trying to adjust the receiver to get a reading, you can actually move the receiver sometimes as much as 1/2 inch and it will still register an on point reading. And I did make sure the rod was upright ie side to side level and front and back level. Because the laser level was able to make sense of a very unlevel floor although we had to refine the readings with ordinary levels, I thought that 3 stars would be fair, if not a bit generous. If the manufacturer will contact me and fix these things, I will keep the level and update this review. Thank you.

Worth every penny so far

Well the first one Amazon sent was missing the lazer and charger but everything else was in the box and looked used lol but Amazon by hands down alway backs up snd takes your word so I dropped it off at ups snd a new one showed up the next day.. soon as I open it he big box I could tell it was a brand new never used unit.. zip tie on the box and everything in box was wrapped in micro bubble rap.. Excited ran outside set it up building a building pad I ran 6 stakes and zero them all the sub grade in second.. the tripod is a very nice unit and the grade rod is not a plastic china junk made from Aluminum with nice black bright numbers and lines snd pulls out snd locks nice.. everything was of top line.. lazer looks a little on the cheap side. But works great.. to make the slope you need you will have to hold link road and adjust the laser with the remote till you get the solid beep for the slope you need.. like 1 % yiu stand 10 ft away and bring yiur receiver up one tenth snd keep hitting the button till you get solid beep .. well worth the money

Quality kit with a proven instrument for reliable results every time

This kit is well equipped with everything you need to measure and set grades, determine cut and fill locations, and set the pitch on drainage. The auto-leveling works great, and the battery life is excellent as is the workmanship of the unit overall. The supplied case is well made, efficient, and keeps all the components clean and dry during transportation and storage. If you're in the excavation, irrigation, paving, or landscape business you need a reliable laser level to guarantee you avoid low spots or inadequate pitch for water runoff. This tool will not disappoint the professional, make DIY projects easier for homeowners, and with proper care last a lifetime. Highly recommend it!

I was sent a used and defective unit on first order.

First order was not only scratched on the story pole and tripod, but laser detector was broken. I began the online return and had an option to be contacted and I chose that. An Amazon person called me within minutes and we talked about the issues. The Amazon rep was awesome and ordered me a replacement and sent email for return shipping label. The "replacement" was in great, near new condition. A couple tiny scratches on the story pole and tripod we very acceptable to me as I will lightly abuse this over what I hope are the next 3 years. The laser, detector and remote seemed factory new and tested well on my property. Took to the job and "jousted" with my slab guys laser on for boards of a 225 yd monolithic slab. I don't think we could find 1/16" Difference over his Stabila. IMHO, Stabila is the gold standard, but I don't need the expense for what I do. I already have their $400 plate level. Background: I'm a construction superintendent and don't need surveyor quality tools, because, well, i have a surveyor for that. What i need is a daily driver to verify elevations for light to moderate duty usage. IMHO to go for a less priced option is for setting a long fence, for a big project. I need this to break out in good weather to shoot form boards, elevations 2-4 times a week as a solo operator. My only wish is to ditch the darn batteries and have a rechargeable and replaceable battery pack like the rest of the 21st century. Alkaline? Are you serious?

Saved me money on first use

Needed to put in a pad for my new greenhouse, having an excavator contractor do the work costs 700.00 I was able to layout the pad, remove dirt and fill to level in one afternoon using my backhoe and tractor. The pad is perfectly level and I have a tool that I can use around the property as needed. Easy set up and even easier to use, watch a few YouTube videos if you have any doubts on the ease of use.

Very old stock

Some of the reviews that I have read suggest this tool may be reconditioned. The unit I received is definitely new but is very old stock. One of the components has a date code of 2012 on it. Perhaps that is why the price dropped. I would appreciate being told it is old stock and maybe old technology up front before placing the order.

Great value.

The level itself is top notch, the grade rod had a couple scuffs on it, nothing major. This unit really comes with everything you'll need to start grading right out of the box! The hard case is a huge bonus. The controls are easy to use and so far the remote works great as well. I use this for my landscaping business and it's an invaluable asset.

Works extremely well even in the rain

It works very well very good quality the kit is great has everything in it except for a wall mount but you can order separate works great in the rain all types of weather. I especially like the duel slope feature makes it great for all jobs.

Pretty good

Great value for what it is. I'm a Architectural Designer, I use it to capture the landscapes in a job site for when a surveying crew is not present or if there is no surveys created. Truely valuable information can be gathered from device for creating footings to custom built decks. Highly reliable equipment, absolutely love it.
