Great Value

I bought this as an open box used product. I got the level and the base holder was broken (That's why it was returned). I emailed Johnson Level & Tool and they sent me a replacement base for free! It was a $60 item to purchase on their website. It is nice that some companies still have good customer service. I used it to level my backyard and do some grading. It worked great. I used it at distances of 10ft up to 100ft. I used the AdirPro Universal Rotary Laser Detector LD-8 with the Johnson Level. Great value and worked fine for my job requirements.

Great unit on a budget

I wish this unit was available in a kit with a high quality elevating tripod. I'll be using it mostly indoors with a laserjamb. There are several other things I wish were better about this level also, but all would probably be unrealistic within this price range. The rotation speed doesn't seem to get quite fast enough. It would be great if it could project a 360 degree beam and not have such a distracting pulse. Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely possible to work with, and quite accurate too. I think everyone just hopes for a nice, bright and steady beam. Although this one seems to beat out most of its competition in terms of accuracy at somewhat longer distances. It's scan modes are great too. I do really appreciate the fit and finish of this thing, everything is tight fitting, rubberized and tough. I don't think it would be visible at all outdoors, I suppose it would work with a laser detector. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. I wanted a manual set up because I find it best for working in older homes that are no longer perfectly square, when you may have to fudge it a bit. It has the potential to be a fantastic unit, but how far it would drive it's price up, I don't know. It's still a great economical option, especially for the homeowner/DIY'er.

this unit works great in bright sun at 100 feet

Starting an inground pool project, I needed a simple rotary laser level. I have used professional units in the past, but I didn't want to drop $500 on something I was rarely going to use. I read all the reviews, most were positive for indoor use, but not so much for outdoor use. Some observations: Setup and leveling is very simple. The laser is not very bright, no way you can see it in the sun. Using the red glasses you can sort of see the laser in the shade at 20 feet If you have the laser receiver, this unit works great in bright sun at 100 feet, see photo. Well worth the money.

Nice Level

This works really well. It is very easy to set up and easy to operate. The level fits the case very well and is well protected. I wish it was easier to see the red line on a bright day but for the price I think it does fine. The red glasses help a lot. Most of what I do with it can wait until before sunup or after sundown to do my longer distance leveling. In bright light 10-15 feet is about all I can see. At dusk 50-100ft. Much farther of course as it gets darker. I think it is a fine quality product and I would buy it again.

Reasonable rotating level for the price

I'm not a contractor who needs super accuracy, so the price of this rotating level seemed reasonable for my needs. I used it for grading the slope of a paver patio and a cement block retaining wall. It is easy to manually level the tool, and the laser line and spot are readily visible out to at least 50' in evening daylight . My only concern is the calibration process. I tried it only once but it didn't hit the same place even after following the directions precisely. Perhaps my further practice will improve the precision.

Performs as expected, Nice & smooth

This sets up easy though I think green level bubbles would be easier to see than the clear ones this level has. Runs nice & smooth & delivery was extremely fast.

Laser pointer knob, isn't accurate

Used for building a deck, laser worked as described. A little to expensive with out a tripod.

Best I could afford

This works quite well. I could not see the laser light in summer sunshine and had to buy the laser detector also. With the detector it worked very well. Leveling the unit is a very sensitive task and it is not rock solid but does work. It helps to let it sit on the tripod for a while so it can acclimate to the temperature of the day. I laid out forms for 23'x7' footings for a cage at a wildlife rehab center with it. That did not need to be perfectly level but needed to be flat. I would not hesitate to do a slab with it.
