Don't make the mistake I made: VACANCY vs. OCCUPANCY
Ok - a bit of a sheepish review. For several weeks I struggled with getting this switch to operate the way I expected it to. Thought it was broken or just poor engineering and was utterly frustrated... until I realized I had bought a 'Vacancy' sensor instead of an 'Occupancy' sensor. I didn't even realize there were 2 different types so, in my defense, it didn't even occur to me to search for something other than "motion sensing light switch" on Amazon. After re-wring and setting different settings, re-setting the device back to factory defaults and then seeing the instructions had "VPS-2/OPS-2" at the top but noticed it had exclusions for certain features related to the VPS-2 (changing sensor mode), I decided to google what the other differences was between the 2 models... [forehead slap]. For those at or below my obvious IQ, this switch turns the lights off if it senses no movement in the room (expected) but IT DOES NOT turn the lights on automatically when you enter a room (not expected). Well, it does if you re-enter the room within a certain time frame but after a few minutes it will not turn the light on automatically and you have to activate the switch. You can imagine my confusion and frustration in trying to figure out why it wasn't working the way I thought it would. [sigh] At first, I was going to give it 5 stars because the model I bought ultimately does do what it is supposed to do and it was fairly straight-forward to install. Then I was going to dock it a star because the description failed to protect me from my own stupidity (I know, a bit petty, but still...). I ultimately decided to give it 3 stars because I realized that if it could detect movement after re-entering the room then they could have easily just made it so you could set it up as an either/or (vacancy/occupancy mode) scenario and just had one model instead of charging $20+ for the VPS-2 and $33+ for the OPS-2 which I ended up having to order as a replacement to get the function I actually needed. An extra $13 for what boils down a few lines of code in the ROM? Give me a break. In fact, the OPS-2 is exactly that - it has both occupancy AND vacancy modes so this seems more like a ploy to squeak more money out of people in a way that strikes me as ever so slightly nefarious and not so slightly money-grubbing. Since I'm now upset again over the whole debacle, I feel like giving it 2 stars but I'm going to raise it back up to 3 because they do offer a bzillion color choices. That is actually nice. No, never mind, I'm giving it 2 because the instructions really were a bit confusing and were what made me think it wasn't working right the whole time. This is also why it took so long for me to figure out the actual problem - which was that I had the wrong switch model. If you're going to charge $13 extra for a switch with the exact same components but coded slightly different (to perform opposite functions), then you can at least print and include instructions specific to each model instead of one that covers both. I hate it when manufacturers do that. Multiple model numbers covered by one manual is a stupid thing. You're not saving paper since you ultimately have to print the same number of manuals so the only reason to do it is to save a few cents here and there. Great for your bottom line, I'm sure, but it makes the consumer frustrated and can lead to misunderstandings and mistakes. [/end rant]

Effective motion detector
I have one of these in my laundry room and one in my guest half bath. The one in the laundry room works great, but the one in the bathroom has a cabinet right next to it, but not blocking it. I can't seem to get it to work well, in this configuration. The cabinet seems to throw it off. So, if you're going to get this, just don't use it when something is too close, within 3in or so. I really do love the large switch pad that allows me to turn it off when exiting the room if I want. Others have this tiny little switch that you have to slide over, which I hate.

My Wife Loves it!
Lutron makes quality products. I put this motion detector switch in the laundry without telling my wife thinking I would have to find another place for it even though that was the perfect use case. But she loved it. The first thing she said to me was "that motion sensor switch is really nice". I have used Lutron products in many automation applications in our home and this motion detector is another great product that is easy to install. Works well enough to please your wife.

Perfect fix for lights that are too often left on.
No forgetting lights on for hours or days. Many user programmable options, daylight sensing, timeout up to 30 minutes, detection options and more. Looks like a Decora rocker but TAP (anywhere) to turn on, will turn off on it’s own or with another tap on your way out. NO AIMING for upper or lower part of switch, easy to use with hands full, just bump it with elbow, box, whatever is convenient.

Looses programmes memory after elapsed motionless time expires!
The product functions almost like it’s supposed to: I’ve run through an installation video created by Lutron Maestro’s self help and the middle setting for occupancy section to manual vs auto or whatever have you doesn’t program and when an elapsed time passes it goes into sleep mode and power to the module within disconnects and the steps to re-program again must be re-entered. Hope this helps y’all ???

So far so good. This is a vacancy sensor and not an occupancy sensor. I use this for the bathroom exhaust fan. You manually turn on the fan if needed and it will automatically turn off after a pre-selected minutes. You can manually turn it off too.
