Provided the speed I needed
I have a Hunter ceiling fan model that has shorter and wider blades than most other fans. The shorter blades fit better in one of our bedrooms that has angled ceilings. The fan looks and runs beautifully, however, it only has three speeds. The high speed is too high and the medium speed is too low. So, I needed a speed in between high and medium. This Leviton 4-speed fan control switch provided the solution... the 'Hi' setting on the Leviton control switch is exactly the speed I needed. There is a higher setting labeled 'Max' which will give the highest speed that the fan will produce. Installation was quick and easy... just be sure to set your ceiling fan pull cord to the highest setting before installing this Leviton wall control switch.

Looks nice, good features but....tight fit and does not always turn on
Due to its size, getting this to fit in a socket with a fair bit of wiring took a lot of careful manipulation of wiring. Fine, but the fact it does not always work is annoying: there are several settings for speed and the detents for these are not well defined. You can set to a speed and get nothing, and have to wiggle it a bit to get the contact to work. That said, it *is* quiet. But Leviton, I expected better.

Works perfectly and no noise!
I tried to use a standard light switch dimmer for the ceiling fan in my daughter's room. I will never do that again. 1. Makes a noticeable buzzing sound when on lower speeds and light buzzing at full speed. 2. The full speed setting only allowed the fan to spin at a medium speed. This unit was easy to install (make sure you have a cheap $5 tester to determine the hot wire. In our house, the builder was cheap and used black wires for hot and neutral. The ground is straight copper). VERY IMPORTANT: IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND POWER AND WIRING, GET AN ELECTRICIAN TO DO THE WORK AND WATCH WHAT THEY DO. HAVE THEM PUT IN AT LEAST TWO DIFFERENT DEVICES SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT THEY ARE DOING. ASK QUESTIONS. LOOK UP YOUTUBE TUTORIALS FROM ELECTRICIANS TO GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING. DON'T SAVE $100 BUCKS AND CAUSE A FIRE! I used the chain on the ceiling fan to verify that it was on the high setting and then tested the switch on low, medium and high. Completely silent and I get the proper speeds.

This is the fan control switch to buy
I bought this switch As a replacement for one where the inside of the knob had stripped out, not because the switch had failed. As far as installing goes, these type of components all connect in the same manner. Two or three wires out the back so a swap out was easy and super fast, about 5 minutes, and I had to purchase a new wall plate ($2) to accommodate a different style switch. Operationally, the switch rotates smoothly. I especially like that the OFF, MAX, HIGH, MED, LOW position markings are easy to read. Likewise, the OFF position is on one end of the switch - not on both ends like other switches. I prefer this arrangement. Lastly, it looks great and has a high end look. Definitely will by another.

Not good.
I had purchased this fan speed controller for a 120v project I was building at home. The speeds are preset, but the dial didn't match what it was causing my fan to do. Off position = works High Position = works Mid Position = Why is my fan going faster? Low = If I didn't look at my fan, I'd swear it wasn't even moving. Also, it should be noted that the switch/dial became hot after about 4 hours of being in any of the "On" positions. I did wire this correctly, I do this kind of thing for a living. I used a DMM to verify voltage and current. I can verify this was the fault of the product. I switched my dial for a different brand and it works flawlessly. Although it cost me double. You get what you pay for I guess.

Good Quality Fan Control
I just installed this yesterday with a new ceiling fan. The unit itself seems well made as you would expect from Leviton. There are just three stranded wires extending from the back of the unit which need to be connected to your line in. The faceplates are relatively easy to change. I am using light almond and the color of the plate for this control matches the color of my other locally bought devices pretty closely. As others' have mentioned in their reviews, this does fit a standard GFI style box cover. As others' have also stated, the knob is a little small and a little stiff, but it isn't anything drastic that should bother anyone other than maybe a person with arthritis or a small child. They really couldn't make the knob any larger and still have it fit a standard GFI plate. Now for the important part, the fan "hum". I installed two fans of the same make and model yesterday, one had this control and one was just on a regular single-pole toggle switch. I did not notice any difference in hum between the two fans so I would say that this control does not add to fan hum in any noticeable way. Just be sure to realize that all fans have some hum so this isn't going to eliminate that, it just doesn't seem to add to it. Pros: - Solid construction - Changeable face plates for different colors - Does not add to fan hum - Easy to install (only wire nuts are required, but not included) Cons: - Knob is a little small and a little stiff - Speed indicator doesn't line up exactly with speeds on plate

Quiet!
This switch is awesome. It is replacing a switch that came with a Westinghouse ceiling fan. The old switch had a brutal hum that could be heard across the house. This one is quiet, works perfectly and tucks nicely into the electrical box next to the light switch. Recommend!

Silencieux mais LOW un peu trop rapide
