First timers, best to have a multimeter and a helper
The OEM converter harness was bad, when trying to match up the new harness wires to the old was difficult because not same color coded wires. Had to use multimeter and go thru operational sequence checks to determine which wire provided what input to match up with the new harness identified source input. After that, simple splicing onto the correct wires and job complete. The new harness performs as expected and was reasonably priced.

Easy DIY Install
Bought as an open package deal( probably returned, because not a plug and play kit) and correctly installed myself which worked out perfectly for my son’s 1997 Toyota Camry.

Wiring is important
They said that this wouldn't work on my 1990 5.0 mustang. They work correct, BUT as long as you splice the correct wire to what instruction identifies you can possibly install this in any car with minimal hassle. It provides a lot of slack in wiring for your LFT and RHT tail lights. The plug wiring is also lengthy so no extensions really needed for normal towing on most trailers. Like I said this is capable of installing on possibly every car. Not plug in play like some but you know simple wiring you can use this.

like always. The package and contents are of good ...
I was originally looking for a plug and play kit for my car. I have a 2002 Toyota Solara, but couldn't find one so I settled for this set. Item came on time from Amazon, like always. The package and contents are of good quality which is what I expected from Hopkins. I have used them before for my other cars. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact that it didn't come with any wire taps. Since you will need to tap these wire into your existing wire harness It would have been nice to include it. But it didn't so I am deducting one star just for the fact that I had to run out to get these. All you need to do is include 4 of them and would have made this a prefect product out of the box. I have attached pics of what taps I used and also how my install was done on a 02 Toyota Solara. Wire diagrams was easy to figure out with a simple blub tester. For 2002 Toyota Solara Factory Harness (left side) Green/Red = Brake Green/Black = Turn Signal (left side) Green/Yellow - Running lights or Parking lights White/Black = Ground Right Side Green/yellow = Right Turn Signal If you follow the wire coordination from hopkins and match them up to my wire diagram you should be able to get this one in less than 5 mins. Of course, be sure to check your car's diagram to determine your wire scheme. This is specifically for a 02 Toyota Solara.

if your truck has independent yellow turn signals from the red brake light you need this.
I have a 2004 GMC 1500 the rear tail lights have amber turn signals and red brake lights. great if you want to wire your 3rd brake light for the topper off the rear brake lights but complicates flat 4 wiring for trailers having an independent brake and turn. the WT (work truck) model I have has no plug in wiring harness for trailer lighting in the junction box at the rear of the truck. the answer was to wire this into the tail lights there is plenty of room for it in the Drivers side tail light recess and the green wire can cross over under the bumper to the passenger side . if you bring the flat 4 up inside the bed under the topper it doesn't get all corroded in the winter like they do if left out to the salt. I turn on the directional , make sure I am on the bulb for it then clip the colored wire the light stops letting you know you have the right wire , strip both sides and the wire for the converter twist , solder and tape ,repeat for each left , right , brake and running.

Works as advertised, within limits.
This product works as it says, however it is important to understand it's limitations. As has been previously mentioned, it will disconnect your cruise control when you signal, if it uses the brake lights to detect braking. Also it is important to note, it will not function if either brake or turn signal line is not connected. For each side turn signal, it is a single relay, with the coil between the brake and turn signal, and diodes to feed power to the input of the relay. If either brake or turn signal is on, the coil is activated by backfeed (high resistance, so the light won't activate) down the other wire. As someone else noted, put a quick disconnect between the brake light wire and the control box to turn the unit off when not in use and your cruise will operate normally. This backfeed requirement should be documented in the box.

Straight forward install, good function
Fairly easy to add trailer light plug to vehicle that didn't have it. Did have to splice some wires but over all was easy and took less than an hour. Functions excellently.

Easy install
Super easy install on a 2003 Ford Focus sedan. I didn't use a voltmeter to determine which wire was brakes or turn or running lights, it's pretty easy to determine what wire is what by using the brakes, signal, or running lights. If you plan on tapping the taillight wires you'll need to get crimp taps as none are included in the package. Zero issues getting the trailer lights to work once this kit was wired in. I preferred this style that keeps the converter inside the vehicle and out of the weather vs. the style which has the converter outside the vehicle near the 4-way flat plug.
