Cast Iron

It got the job done, but it put off a lot of dust. Fit Grizzly G4000 lathe (M39X4 threads)

Not top quality but he gets the job done

For the price point, lets be honest here, (plus free shipping) internal single point threading, the dust is a small price to pay, specially if you will fit it to a 6" chuck. Overall I'm please with it. It will get the job done.

Good Adapter Plate ????????????????????

I bought this backplate adapter for my newly purchased 4-jaw chuck. Once received I turned it on my lathe to fit the chuck contour. Then I lined up and drilled the appropriate holes for mounting to the chuck. It preforms flawlessly ????

Worked well for me.

This is a very stout backplate. The threads fit well on my spindle. It appears to be made from gray cast iron (as opposed to ductile cast iron) which is fine, just know that it wont really make chips when you machine it, more like a powder.

Decent backplate.

Had to machine down for a 5 inch chuck. Could not get a decent quality surface finish, but it works for me.

Better (and cheaper) options available.

Pros: -Threaded correctly on logan/Montgomery-Ward 700a, -machined nicely (but with the fine-powder chips typical of cast iron) Cons: -Porous cast iron, far more than similar backplates from Shars etc, which are made of higher grades of cast iron -lots of runout, had to machine all faces and OD as well as minor diameter to get it true. Before machining front face was off by .020" at least, minor mounting diameter by about .015, once again way worse than Shars -weebly walls on the threaded section. Wall thickness of only about 3/8 on contact point with the spindle nose, which meant poor stiffness (was able to move +-.002" in each direction pulling and pushing by hand; stiffer backplate and bare spindle move only about .0005" Max). This causes uncontrollable chatter when turning steel. Replacing with my other stiffer backplate (caveat; with a different chuck) totally eliminated this chatter.

Its a cast backing plate

I needed this to make a chuck backing plate for my old sb lathe. We will see how well it takes a thread soon. I will update my review if its bad

Pretty good!

Took a chance on it as some people seem to have issues with surface finish and defects in the casting. Worked great for me though. Price is a little high for what it is, but the finish was nice. I had to open up the register a little bit to fit the southbend 9” lathe. Mounted a 6” 3 jaw accusize chuck.

It does the job its supposed to.

Backplate worked out well. As supplied TIR (runout ) was only 0.004" on the OD and Face. It machined well to fit my 4 jaw chuck. Recommended buy.

It Work

It works for that it is but it's a very low quality casting and very hard to get a good surface finish.

This fit my Logan lathe. I faced it off to fit a new 5 inch Accusize chuck. A lot of material to remove but it works well
