Very Convenient and Handy Cane To Have Around, BUT...
Let me start by saying that I really like my Handy Cane. I have had 2 hand surgeries, have a bad back, and am always dropping things so having the grabber built into it makes it so much more convenient then having to haul a separate grabber with me all the time. There is 1 thing that I think if they were changed about it would make this a much better/safer feeling cane though, and that is the Handle. It is very cheap feeling like it could crack and break if too much pressure is placed on it when walking, or if it were to accidently fall over and hit the ground just right. (Maybe it really wouldn't, but to me it feels like it could). Here is my main personal issue with the handle: My hands swell a lot so I have to wear compression gloves, (I actually wear the compression gloves that have the raised ribbed areas on the palms of them to make it easier to hold, grasp, and pick up items), but the plastic like handle on the Handy Cane along with the compression gloves, even with the ribbed areas on them, makes it feel slick in my hand, so I have to be super careful to not have it slide out of my hand while I'm walking. (I'm fairly certain that those folks when wearing Winter gloves very well could have the same issue too), so I wanted to be sure and mention that in my review. IMO If the handle was changed to a more solid feeling material, or at the very least, had some type of non slick rubber type coating, or ribbed type area or something similar to that over it, it would be great. My plan to remedy this issue is to go and buy something like the material used to keep bowls from sliding, or something like that, and try to make myself a sleeve to fit over the handle somehow. I've not personally run into any issues with the grabber section at the bottom breaking or anything like that that some of the other reviewers have mention, but if I do I will update my review to include that. So far the grabber section on mine seems to be working great, and holding up well, and it has come in very handy many, many, times already. If I were asked would I buy it again, I'd say, yes I would because it is in fact a very Handy Cane to have. IMO if they fixed the handle to make it feel, at the very least, less slick for those of use who are wearing gloves, they'd have a 10 star cane here. I think that covers my review, and thanks for taking the time to read it!!

Good, sturdy cane.
I am a temporary cane user recovering from hip surgery. I had a cane I was happy with, until the day I was out walking and dropped my keys. Major problem with a regular cane, since I have mobility issues and was unable to pick them up myself! (Luckily a neighbor came along at the right time.) After that I decided I needed a cane with a built-in grabber, and this one fills the bill nicely. The grabber works well and the cane is strong and sturdy. Drawbacks? Well...the handle is hard plastic. Another reviewer mentioned that they thought it might break or crack easily, and I can see that. It's also hard and uncomfortable in the hand, and my hand perspires somewhat, which makes it slippery. My other cane has a foam wrapped handle, and that is much better. If I were going to use this a lot or it was going to be my only cane, I would have to wrap it with something to make it easier in the hand and less slippery. Another thing...this cane is noisy! I guess it's the hardware, but with every step, especially on a hard surface, you get a clacking sound. So if you're walking in a quiet neighborhood, the neighbors will hear you coming a block away. CLACK...CLACK...CLACK. Kind of weird. Still overall I'm glad I made this purchase. I'm very glad to have that built-in grabber feature which is much needed right now. I do recommend this cane, with the caveat about the handle and the noise.

Handy to have, and a great idea, but does not wear well.
A great idea, but not a perfect product. I've often wished I could pick things up with my cane, so when I first heard of this, I almost immediately ordered one, even though the price was almost double what I had paid for a regular cane and separate pickup stick. In spite of a lack of instructions, I quickly figured out how to use it. However, after a couple of weeks use, I cannot get it to close tightly enough to pick up anything smaller than a dime. I think I may have sprung it by accidently using it as a cane a couple of times while it was in pickup mode. It could pick up a single piece of paper when I first got it. I wish there had been more instructions included, and I wish there was some way to adjust it. It still works for picking up larger things, and is my favorite cane, but for small things, I still have to get out my separate pickup stick. I bought a second one 5 months ago. and the handle on it broke off yesterday. It was probably my fault. I realized too late that I had too much weight on the far end of the handle (not the end directly over the body of the cane) when it snapped. The pickup pat still works, so I am going to try gluing the handle back together with something like Gorilla Glue. If that does not work, I will probably buy another one, and be more careful about how I grasp it. It's too handy a cane to be without.

the release handle does not last very long
I had a brainstem stroke 2 years ago, I bought this to help me establish my equalibrium and keep me from bending over to pick up stuff, putting me at high risk for falling or tipping over. I loved this device and used it every day for everything to counter balance and reach. I can pick up quarters and creditcard with it. But after about 9 months of daily use, I could no longer get the handle to work right, something inside the cane broke. I got another one and so far so good. Where ever I go it goes, it keeps me from having to bring a walker out of the house. I physically don't need a walker or a cane, but with damage to the vestibular nerves in my ear from the brain stem stroke, those two things are needed for safety so I don't loose my balance and fall over. When I do end up on the ground, it helps me get up too.
