Pleased With Operation So Far - But Dying After 4 Years

I purchased this security light with some apprehension as a solar powered one (different manufacturer) bought several years ago did not perform well. That previous purchase used a 6 volt battery which did not last or could be charged adequately with the solar collector provided. I threw it in the garbage after 2 years. I went with the LED to reduce the battery drain but waffled between multiple LEDs and the single one per light on this brand. I am not disappointed, the brightness is exceptional even if not equal to a 120 volt halogen. Large reflectors emit good light over acceptable distance and coverage and you can't look directly into the lights they are so bright. A weakness is that the light will have to be removed (unscrewed) to change the battery (hopefully not often), but it's hard to engineer all the good features into a small package. As well the sensor has limited movability so mounting position is important to get the correct sensor coverage. Reading the settings marks is very difficult as they are the same white as the body. I had to color them with a sharpie. As with all these motion sensors the motion needs to be at right angles to the sensor for best sensitivity. I gave it 4 stars only because it's on trial to see how long the battery lasts and if in winter the solar collector will be able to charge the unit properly. Edit 9/25/2014: Had this now over a year and it's operation has been flawless. Even during periods of cloudiness it has enough charge to work. I increased the on time to 2 minutes and still works great. Lots of light. Am going to order another for installation further down my driveway. I also upgraded the rating to 5 stars. Edit 3/19/15: Still working. I am very pleased with this light. We had unusually long period this winter with little sun, that with increased on time meant I had to turn unit off for 48 hours to charge. After that light works well again. Edit 12/3/17: Battery seems to be getting weak as it will not hold a charge very long. I have gotten 4 years of use from this light which is OK, but the battery cannot be replaced. I've reduced the start rating to four for this reason. I am replacing this unit with one that allows battery replacement. Found battery on eBay; only place that has the exact battery.

Battery will not hold a charge - Problem Resolved - Great Customer Service - Cooper Lighting

Installed this unit in March 2012 and it worked great. Unfortunately in November 2012 the battery began not to hold a charge. Tried the recharging method called out in the owner's manual but it failed to resolve the issue. Light will retain a charge lightly and then fail after it turns on a few times. Contacted Cooper lighting and without hesitation they mailed me a brand new replacement - No hassles whatsoever. Great Customer Service. A complete waste

Purchased this with plenty of sunshine here in the sunshine state - it worked for a couple months and went dead. I would not recommend this product. Anything sold as a security light should function for longer than 45 days! I have since purchased a hard wired one. Don't waste your money, time and energy installing this.

Works fine and has good sensitivity. I wish someone sold a battery pack that is easier to install. I ended up making my own for when the batteries die.

Great solar light

I wanted to light our wooded backyard so I mounted this on a tree that receives good sunlight during the day. I couldn't be happier. This light was very easy to install and provides a lot of light to our .5 acre backyard.

A solid choice, but beware of battery lifespan.

I have an older version of this fixture. After some years, the battery failed to hold any charge. I found the solar panel was putting out 10 volts in full sun, so that was ok. I removed and disassembled it, and removed the battery pack. It's a square bank of 4 NiMH batteries making 4.8 volts (at 1.2v per cell, all in series). I used my iMax B6 to do a full charge/discharge cycle. I found its capacity to be 290 mAh, while it's specified at 1800. Clearly, the battery is very very dead. I called Eaton tech support, and they said it has a 2 year warranty. Mine is older than that. They said the battery is not replaceable, and I'd have to buy a new one. That's regrettable, because the fixture could last a lifetime, but it is only limited by the NiMH battery bank. It should have been designed to be replaceable. I did find a few square-shaped 4.8V NiMH batteries, but none had the same connector. To repair it, I got a Tenergy battery for $12, and I could solder the old connector on. But testing with the new battery produced the same behavior, so I concluded the fixture was bad. I ordered the new Eaton fixture. The new version of this product from Eaton uses Lithium Ion battery, which should last longer than the older NiMH, but still has a limited lifespan. Also, you're not supposed to charge lithium in temperatures below freezing, so assuming it's not smart enough to cut off charging until temperatures go above freezing, such a fixture might not be suitable for cold locations. I think that the only advantage of this fixture is ease of installation, but it would be wise to get a hard-wired fixture instead. The limited lifespan of the battery makes it not very worthwhile. UPDATE - Eaton makes this fixture in white or black. The listing and photo shows this product is white. The product that arrived was black. (a black fixture with black solar wire would look terrible on a white wall) Thinking this was a one-off error, I returned it for replacement. The replacement arrived and it was also black. Both of them went back. Amazon support was not helpful, they have no visibility into what's actually in inventory, and did could help me. I ended up ordering a different brand.

No trabaja correctamente!

La luz que emite es aceptable, pero le doy una Estrella porque el problema es que a veces trabaja y a veces no. Muchas veces tengo que apagar y prender el interruptor para que funcione, caso contrario, por más movimiento que exista no funciona. Es una pena, ojalá puedan solucionar este problema porque la luminaria se ve bien.
