Martingdale collars are perfect for my dog as they are soft and seem to be comfortable yet help limit pulling when she's on the leash. They don't however eliminate it but that would be too much to expect from a fabric collar. The loop gives me something to hold onto that she can't slip out of on those occasions when I don't have a leash readily available. She's quite the chewer and she has chewed through a couple.

I've always loved these types of soft Martingale collars but this one does not work for dogs with larger heads. I bought this for my 8 week old Chesapeake bay retriever puppy and while it fits great around the neck, I have to adjust the legnth everytime I want to take it off or on. and it is not very easy to adjust the length while it's on him so sometimes I worry I'll have to cut it off! For this to work for him, it would either have to have a larger loop part or a buckle. As much as I love the color and how it works when it's on him, I won't be buying this one in the future. This would probably be fine for dogs who have thicker necks than heads (Like my last black lab).

Great for security but still comfortable for dos.
I use these collars for all the dogs I walk for my pet sitting business, expect very small dogs and those who have medical conditions that restricts them from using a collar for walks. Wish they would made a 5 lb and under version of these. I have seen other companies that do. A dog getting loose is a dog walkers nightmare. I have known other companies who have lost dogs because of slipped collars so I never wanted that to happen to me and so far with the help of this it never has. When adjusted properly it prevents the dogs from slipping without going so tight it can hurt the dog. It also does not irritate most dogs skin unless they are very sensitive. Last a really long time. I replace mine every two years just to be sure it's still good but even after that long of very regular usage they looked good honestly. No fraying etc. If your dog can't have a collar as a main point of attachment of your leash, but you are worried about your dog slipping out of their harness, you can use a 4" coupler to link the collar to the base of the leash clip, and then attach the leash clip to the harness. That way it's more of a back up. You can also use it the same way with a pinch collar as well. I've had a pinch collar come apart of me once. Ever since I started using this I have not had a a dog slip a collar.

It works while it holds up, moderate durability
Lasts longer than the other Guardian Gear Small Martingale Dog Collar, 5/8-Inch (which doesn't last, see my review). Other than that, you get what you pay for. It's an inexpensive collar that will probably last from a couple of months to a couple of years. The figure 8 metal fastener on our last one broke for our 35-pound dog. Since it lasted over a year, we decided to try another.

Jack Russell owner
We bought this for our Jack Russell several months ago, and it works great. We had been using a choke leash prior to this, and it had a tendency to snag once it cinched down, and not let up. With this, it tightens as he pulls, and lets up as he falls back. It's made walking with him a lot easier, and we don't feel so bad when he pulls so much, as it is a smoother/all around cinching and quick release so he can breath easier. The reason we went with this choke-type collar is because Jack Russell's tend to have thicker necks compared to the size of their head. It's hard to notice when you look at them, but if you try to put a 'normal' collar on them, and go for a walk, they can pull right out of it. This doesn't allow him to pull out of it, even if he were to be trying to back out of it while we're holding on. **note** When we got this collar, we were having trouble with him fighting us on the walks. I'm not suggesting this calmed him down, but after we purchased this and started using this, he stopped pulling so much and actually enjoys the walks (instead of pulling and tugging trying to run every which way but loose).

I have a No-Slip on my male pup that is great. This one from Guardian Gear however
The collar is ok. I have a No-Slip on my male pup that is great. This one from Guardian Gear however, is not as great. It constantly loosens on its own, which works for my dog because they're never tethered for more than a minute to get from the car to the dog park. I always have to adjust it.

Great Buckleless Collar!
The last time I was out on vacation, my friend was walking my dog, my dog jolted to say hi to dogs across the street, and unsnapped his gentle leader face harness. I've been a big fan of gentle leaders for over ten years. It works miraculously for dogs that pull, especially my lab that passed last year. However, I now have a Samoyed that doesn't pull, but jolts after squirrels and other animals. The gentle leader with the actual face and prong buckle works wonderfully and of course doesn't snap open, but our guy just has so much hair that it's a pain to use. The gentle leader clip together buckle is just too weak, and I came home from vacation to a dog with a torn ACL (CCL), which may now require a $5000 surgery. We just used this Guardian Gear one, and the color is super cute, and it works really well. No fear of it unbuckling, and tightens and loosens accordingly to dog's pull. Nice invention!

Perfect collar for your feisty dog!
our little beagle boy isn't hindered by leash restrictions - in other words, if he really wants to get loose, he could...with a typical collar. This one is a WINNER because it just keeps pulling tighter and tighter until he is forced to give up, the little stubborn stinker! No plastic buckles/snap together parts to break open from all his pulling, either. sturdy and perfect! the only thing I'd say is to check frequently that the buckle part the adjusts to your dog's neck size hasn't slipped making the collar too big again. this happens from excessive pulling, so I check him every night while we're having quiet time. it's an easy adjustment while the collar's on him, but if left w/o adjusting, I guess the collar could get so loose he could slip out of it. I'll buy another one when this one gets too grungy or worn out.

great for a smaller dog
All metal hardware is a bonus. That's usually where anything that will break will in fact break. I love the color. It's nice and bright. The downside is the width. 3/4 inch just isn't wide enough. 1 inch would be perfect, or 1 1/2 for the medium. My dog is basset /border collie mix. Her neck is on the smaller diameter size, but she is a long dog with lots of muscle, and the width of this collar makes it look small and insignificant. I am afraid she might break it if she happens to shy from something or see a squirrel even though it looks well constructed. The stitching looks tight and secure, and the material is strong but a little stiff. I'm sure with use, that will work its way out. All in all a good quality product if your dog is on the smaller side. If your dog is above average, i would look for a wider width collar.

Nice color, nice collar
Nice color, nice collar... But doesnt look solid enough to be on my rottweiler. I returned it. I prefer the Coastal collars in this style (metal pieces are thicker on the Coastal). I would only use this collar for dogs under 50 pounds.
