Coghlan's Shiny Wire Camp Grill with legs

I was pleasantly surprised at how sturdy this Camp Grill is even though it is not heavy in weight. There are two Coghlan's grills listed on this item's Amazon site. One is called "heavy duty" and the other is this one, so I was expecting something flimsy. This grill is about 24" wide and is the right size to cover the average fire ring found at many campgrounds. You're supposed to use this grill over an open fire with your pots and pans - not for direct contact with food. Looking at the width of the rungs, I would have to agree that you need to place cookware on top of it and not place food directly on it, since the food might fall through the grate. I'm hoping that the grill is strong enough to hold up at high temps, but that remains to be seen. It would have been nice if there was a carrying bag or case, but I can fashion one of those myself. Another thing to note - the edges of the rungs and the bottoms of the legs are VERY sharp. My husband is going to use a burring tool to grind down the sharp edges a bit to avoid cuts on hands and punctures of our tent when packed into our cargo trailer.

Fairly Sturdy, will sag in the middle if you put things that are too heavy on it.

Come very oily, you may want to wipe it down with Goo Gone when it arrives so it doesn't mess up your stuff. It says not to grill directly on it, so make sure the pots you use are aluminum or small and lightweight or just use one cast iron piece of cookware at a time. It sags slightly with a cast iron pot and cast iron Dutch oven, but it does not sag with aluminum cookware. Good for primitive campsite areas with no fire rings or for when you need to increase the cooking area over a fire.

The picture doesn't do this justice on the product description. I know the measurements are available but, I admit, I didn't look at them and so I was pleasantly surprised by the actual size of this grill for camping. Similar items start at $6 more per item for the exact same thing. As a novice camper I wasn't sure how necessary this would be until I went camping for the first time. If you're going to build your own fire it is almost a necessity to have some type of apparatus set up so that cooking can be done over the fire. The material is sturdy and built to be used over the fire so it is long lasting. Can't wait to use the grill through summer!

Excellent grill grate

Super easy to put up over the fire, and it holds two cast iron skillets great. My only knock is that it gets covered in soot very easily, so I have to store it in a trash bag.

A good camping grill

Grill is smaller than I needed, however, very satisfied and large enough for morning coffee and eggs. Beyond that to small.

Flimsy, but good enough

I kept looking for a food safe grill, this seemed like the best option. Definitely a little flimsy if you put a cast iron pan on top, but it's a good size and does the job. I do wish they had kept the grill spacing consistent.

Coghlans always is a value.

Good value for the price. Wouldn’t use for backpacking. Only gave it 4 stars because it fells like the legs will bind up and not open/close eventually. Otherwise great.

Well made and useful

Good quality, well made and versatile. First use was to tie the legs up with wire and place the whole thing across a fire pit where it held a Dutch oven at one end and a large frying pan at the other. Just as easily used with legs. Successful purchase.

Purchased for and used on an open fire as a barbeque grill, we cooked food directly on this and it worked perfectly well. Stood up fine, perfectly suited to dealing with the weight of burgers and sausages, as yet untested with other kitchenware. Easy to clean, and simple to store given how the product collapses down.
