Get rid of any and all surface rust
This thing is amazing. When you pick it up you realize it feels like a plastic eraser but then you rub it on cast iron and it cuts through EVERYTHING. And I mean everything. It cuts to the raw iron so be prepared for that and that you'll need to reseason any parts of a part you touch with this. But I had a neglected iron pan from my grandmother and the outside of it had 50 plus years of build up on it and it worked perfectly to bring the clean raw iron on the outside while keeping her original seasoning from years of feeding her fam.

Works. Just follow the instructions.
We left a Ozark Trail cast iron pan outsind on the patio for a year. It was covered in surface rust. The manufacturer's website said "Don't throw out that out pan or if you can find one at a yard sale!!!" Took some elbow grease but I got all of the rust off. Re-seasoned the entire pan (lightly sprayed with oil, place on grill using indirect heat for 30 minutes done). Note don't let the oil drop, wipe off any excess so as to not start a fire or make a mess

Works Better than expected
I didn't think it would be a good as it was but works great for rust spots. If you have places that need to be cleaned will definitely help. Will help if needing to preseason but could be better to use vinegar and scrub because of size. Will definitely keep one handy.

Effective: add elbow grease
Have several pans. Very effective....will need a full eraser for rusty pans. The item itself is very hard, not flexible. Use it as if a pumice stone.

Gets rid of Rust
This actually does erase minor rust on cast iron. I used it to clean minor rust from a thrift store find. I would not use this on a rust covered cast iron you pulled out of someone's barn. However, if your cast iron just has a bit of rust here and there, you can indeed erase it with this. I gave 3 stars for value since you probably can get rid of rust cheaper without this. This eraser is very convenient though and you can grab it quickly to use when you discover at the last minute, you got a spot of rust on the skillet you are about to use. Also, if you are buying someone a cast iron skillet or dutch oven as a gift, this is a nice item to accompany it.

My cast iron pan is like new!
I had a cast iron griddle that had rust on it. I was amazed at how well this took the rust off. I seasoned the pan again and it looks great and cooks great! Thank you Lodge Logic for a great product!
