Now I have three!
I've had two different tap & die sets over the years and was never was able to use the small tap wrench with the smallest taps. I've only been using very small taps lately, and it gets annoying having to use a tiny crescent wrench to turn the taps so I bought this. I tried it out and it was just as useless as the others! I was just about to start a return when I looked deep inside one of my others and saw a little detail I'd never noticed. There is a second set of jaws inside! Duh! I never saw that on any other one for years! Can you tell I'm not a pro? This one works as well, or better, than the others. I decided to keep it because it's not the seller's fault that I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. Plus, I can keep it with my special taps for special work without breaking out the big sets. Recommended.

Works with small taps if you know the secret.
For a tool that costs less than $5, it is satisfactory and does the job it was designed to do and it won't wear out in my lifetime. The collar on mine was very hard to turn especially when cranking it down to use a smaller tap. That's why I gave it 4 stars. I ended up using some valve grinding paste on the threads and after working it back and fourth for a while it now works pretty well. I bought this to use with a #1 tap. As others have pointed out, there are no instructions telling you it will accommodate the smaller sizes only if you insert the tap inside the chuck rather than use the visible jaws, as shown in the picture. You can't really tell by looking but there is an inner set of jaws. Also, this item is now made in China, not the USA as implied in the pictures

1/4" is not 1/4"
The tool is good quality and is a good value. I made a mistake in sizing though. I bought this wrench for a tap whose shank is 0.235" square. It happens to be an M8 tap. However, this 0.235" shaft is way too big for this tool. I see now that the tool is sized for an actual 1/4" tap, whose shank is smaller than 1/4". The description says "1/4-inch capacity", but buried below it also says #0-1/4". Probably not saying "1/4-inch capacity" and only saying #0-1/4" would be more clear. Hope this helps someone.

Can be difficult to use with 1/4" taps
It's hard to actually tighten the tool around 1/4" taps, and for people with weaker hands you might need to use a pair of grips or a pair of pliers to tighten the collar properly snug, but once you've installed a tap into the wrench it holds well enough.

Not worth it for smaller taps
Inner jaws would not tighten down on smaller taps, knurled jaw nut starts spinning on threads. Hard to tighten even on larger taps.

Completely useless tool
This product is completely useless. The socket is very rigid and does not any standard bit. I have no idea in what scenario someone can use this tool. I could not use it to know if it's good quality or not. On top of all of this, I can't apparently return it for a refund.

Holds 5-40 and 6-32 taps
The tap handle does hold small taps. There is a smaller grip recessed inside the tap for the small taps. At first I though it was not good, but looking closer I saw the smaller grip. Holds tight and works like a charm.

Bad experience, not what Irwin tools usually offer
The nut spins with resistance, the centre is excentric and doesnt hold small bits for 080 tappings
